installed second hard drive,moved program files from c drive to folder i created in new drive.installed farcry onto new folder.but farcry files where scattered allover & not in folder of its own.uninstalled farcry with program called my uninstaller.pc then froze couldnt get into task manager,so switched off pc.when i restarted,disaster, folder in new drive had gone along with my programs ,mostly games,
View 1 RepliesI just turned my computer on today, and out of the blue it seems my secondary hard drive has committed suicide. It had only one NTFS partition covering all 300GB, but now its one FAT partition a little under 2GB plus tons of unallocated space. I have no clue how this happened, but would like to get back as much data as I can. Whenever I run an undelete program, it looks at the partition, not the drive, so it only sees 2GB of nothing and can't see any files.

Partition D (which contains all installed programs) is still fine. But I was never able to use software like "Partition Magic" to adjust the space between these two partitions.So I might just have to buy a new hard drive. But I want - I even HAVE - to keep the installed XP the way it is now. Lots of software installed. So I wonder, if there is any way just to "mirror" the existing version of XP onto a new hard drive, and then just to exchange the old hard drive with the new one?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a 2nd hard drive installed on my computer and i noticed yesterday that everything on it except for one folder has been deleted everything from my music to my videos. However, when i check the properties of the hard drive it still shows that space is being taken up on that 2nd hard drive as if all my files are still there. I went into my itunes and tried to play the music i have on my 2nd hard drive through itunes and to my surprise it still plays which it shouldn't if the files had in fact been deleted.

I've been using an USB enclosure successfully for some time with no problem. I upgraded to a Maxtor 100 gig in the same enclosure. When turned on it does the "plug and play" chimes and it shows up in the device manager as installed and working properly. But it is not shown in My Computer as a drive letter.

just installed a second internal hard drive. tried to access bios at start up (to setup hard drive) but system doesn't respond to ANY keyboard keys. system just continues with normal Windows boot-up. once XP is running all functions and software seem fine. no matter how many times I try at "Press Del to enter Setup" nothing works. Jusat before I had this problem, I had a problem with software (which I have removed) that caused my system to lock up. when I rebooted system stopped and offerred reboot options, ea: Safe Mode, but I the arrow keys would not work, system just went directly to Windows boot up.how can I access the bios if system doesn't respond to keyboard?

Registry damaged and corrupted. To fix this problem: open IE and type www.registryxp.com Once you load the web page, close this message window. After you install the cleaner program you will not recieve any more reminders or pop ups like this one". I went to that page and it wants to charge me to sign up for a registry cleaner. This box pops up every 2 minutes or so . I've tried other registry cleaners and pop up blockers, spyware removal, deleting cookies, add/ remove programs, everything I can think of but to no avail. I know that it's hiding somewhere but I'm not too computer literate to go to far into my system without the proper help.

When the new HD was complete I thought I would copy the data from the old drive to the new.They both still had os installed They were both connected to the system at the same time.When I finished, I removed the old drive. The new drive wouldn't boot. "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". After recovery disk completed, the system booted fine. I could reboot from the shutdown option.
The problem I have is when the system is shutdown completely. It requires the system disk again. It will reboot after the system disk is reinstalled. I continually get the "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" error message.During bootup after a shutdown, I can F2 into the bios before the error message. It will allow me to exit and then windows will boot without the error message.
Installed new hard drive, along with XP Home (recovery disk).Before my system crashed all my motherboard drivers were on D: partition.XP loads okay, but it is unstable - for example I cannot start msconfig under "Normal" start up. It crashes. I will not list all the BSOD - but XP doesn't like something.I have no devices connected apart from basic graphics card (which XP loaded the drivers for okay). I am waiting for XP Pro to be delivered, so I am hoping that my unstable XP will become stable after I upgrade (or full installation) of a retail version.

I just installed a new hard drive on my computer, it is a dell dimension E521, it had windows vista os on it, this was installed on the pc when I bought it ,after putting my new hard drive in I didn't have a recovery disk with windows vista but I did have an xp cd from my laptop so I've used it. The windows xp installed just fine on my pc but the problem I've run into is the drivers, the disk that came with it wouldn't work so I went to dell's website put in my service tag and downloaded all the drivers that it says my pc needs. everything installed ok except for my broadcom, which is not allowing internet, my warranty on this computer is out so I can't get any advise from them without paying a fee even though I bought the hard drive from them, and the computer! Just hoping I could get some help, and wondering if I have to install vista for everything to work right.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI added another 150G hard drive last year to my computer...it worked just fine for almost a year and then when I was defragmenting I got a message saying a file was corrupted and since then that drive has vanished from my computer It was labeled G and I had it almost filled and now no matter what I try computer doesn't acknowledge the drive anywhere I look...if I run the defragment program it doesn't even show the G drive and in Windows Explorer nothing shows for that drive either

He had trouble loading the drivers for his HP printer. He would get an error saying that a C: empHP_WebRelease folder was missing. He did manage to figure out that for some reason when I installed XP it called the Boot drive "I" instead of "C"
I recently had to format my hard drive, and it created a backup folder for the old hard drive stuff for me. Now i realise that i dont need it, so i decided to delete it. I have been able to delete all of it apart from My Documents. Access is denied: make sure the drive isnt full or write protected.

He has a 300GB hard drive and only about 20 or 30GB is used but the rest of the Hard drive will get filled with the above temp files until the whole drives runs out of space..its'll go down to 1 MB or less so the rest of the 200GB is full of temp files..and the low hard drive notifications popsup.. I always have ro have him run CCleaer to clean out his temp folder.
Sometime early next year I will be building a new system. The system will likely have one large hard drive. As of now I will be installing XP Pro. I was curious how everyone else splits up their drive. How big of a partition is generally created for the OS. And do most people partition the remaining space.Now a file architecture question. When non OS applications games, utilities, MS Office, etc.) are installed do most people put then in D:Program Files Or create separate sub-folders for the broad categories and install them in the appropriate sub folder.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried without success to delete a folder from my separate hard drive which I beleive is corrupted in some way. I have copied it elsewhere and it runs fine. I have deleted all the individual files (jpgs) and the details show no files remaining. However I get an error message which tells me I cannot delete the folder as the the directory is not empty. I have tried chdsk and to show hidden files with the Tools command but without success. Any ideas? The folder seems to make my hard drive whir and run very slowly hence my desire to get rid of it. I am running Windows XP with SP2 but mt computer skills are limited!

The reason for this is so I have a Hard Disk Drive full of music while my original HDD has all the other stuff. View 7 Replies View RelatedIn the Explorer folders in my Windows XP Pro, suddenly, I no longer have the icons I normally use--such as X for delete, and the cut, copy, and paste icons, which are mainstays of my work in the Explorer panels.
When I right click in the upper panel of the folder and open the customize panel, I put the icons I need at the top of the folder. Yes, I know that the panel on the left in the folders has many of the functions that the icons serve, such as delete, rename, etc. BUT... after I put all the icons I need at the top, as soon as I close and reopen the folder, the icons have disappeared!!What is going on? How come? Home come I can't set the icons I need for all Explorer folders at one time??I'm hoping someone can help me fix this!
My computer did this really weird thing. I restarted my computer this morning, and to my horror, all my documents had disappeared. There were only three folders in my documents - My Music, My Pictures and My Videos, and these only contain the standard sample stuff. Basically, my user is like new again! All my installed programs were there however.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWell, reciently I've discovered that my C:WindowsSystem32 folder is gone. Just gone. And it seems that any time a program tries to open something in that folder, it just pops up and says that the file is missing or whatnot.
1. The files are still there. I can access them through IE by typing in the dir in the address bar.
2. The folder is supposedly "Hidden," but I have it set to view all hidden files and folders.
Yesterday I decided to cut and paste a 1.3 gig folder from one partition to another on a seperate drive. The file transfer proceeded, however, after a couple of minutes a message appeared saying it couldn't move the folder as it was currently being used by another program. I closed notepad which was the program involved. I then went to the partition where the folder was originally kept but the folder was not present. I went to partition where I had attempted to move the folder and found the folder but it was completely empty. Somewhere on my drives is 1.3 gig of infornmation in about six files,
