Top Of Folder Explorer Disappeared When Using Control+F
Oct 14, 2007
Need to find a file, I go to hit control + F shortcut for search, and I screw up. Somehow I managed to remove the entire top half of explorer! So now all of my folders look like this: And to make matters worse, search doesn't work anymore. So, how do I get my folders back to normal?
After my pc has been infected by the "bagle prague" (hldrrr/wintems/flec006/srosa) i got cleaned by a software called Regrun. But the malwares have left some problems on my pc. The main problem is : In Control Panel / Folder option / View, i cant find the options related to "show hidden files". In this forum there is a solution already posted, but it didnt solve my problem.
My favorite folder view setting in XP is "Details". After trying out some tweak apps, Windows Explorer shows every folder I open in "Icon View". I change it back to Details but later it reverts to Icons.
I know there's a simple way to: 1. globally change all folder views to Details...and 2. Preserve the setting.
My control panel has disappeared and I can't fix it even though I've run AVG anti-virus and Spybot Search & Destroy. I'm also getting the following pop-up (with misspellings).Warning! Potential Spyware Operation!Your computer is making unauthorized copies of your system and Internet files. Run full scan now to prevent any unathorised access to your files! Click YES to download spyware remover.
I have Window XP operating system and can no longer access the control panel. The icon is no longer available on my Start Menu. There is an icon called Set Program Access and Defaults and when I click on it it tells me "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". This is a private home computer, not on a system. Though I am a regular computer user I have few technical skills and may have entered an incorrect command.
When I used to double click on the 'My Computer' icon on the desktop, 2 folders would appear at the top of the page when it opened.1 folder was called 'Shared Documents' and the other 'My Documents'.Problem is, the 'My Documents' folder has suddenly disappeared. It is still on the desktop and I can access my work from there, but I would like it to appear back in 'My Computer' again.
I was looking through my pictures and accidentally hit Ctrl+"something" which hid the folder names. The folders are there, but are unnamed, how do i get the names back?
I have cleared my cookie folder regular but now it has disappered C drive/Documents and settings/User name/Cookies I have tried Tools/Folder Options/View/Hidden files & Folders/Show hidden Files & Folders. No Help I have tried Start/ Control Panel/ Switch to Classic View/Folder Options/View Tab/Show Hidden Files & Folders Uncheck Hide protected Operating System Files Uncheck Hide Contents of System Folders. In the Explorer folders in my Windows XP Pro, suddenly, I no longer have the icons I normally use--such as X for delete, and the cut, copy, and paste icons, which are mainstays of my work in the Explorer panels. When I right click in the upper panel of the folder and open the customize panel, I put the icons I need at the top of the folder. Yes, I know that the panel on the left in the folders has many of the functions that the icons serve, such as delete, rename, etc. BUT... after I put all the icons I need at the top, as soon as I close and reopen the folder, the icons have disappeared!!What is going on? How come? Home come I can't set the icons I need for all Explorer folders at one time??I'm hoping someone can help me fix this!
My computer did this really weird thing. I restarted my computer this morning, and to my horror, all my documents had disappeared. There were only three folders in my documents - My Music, My Pictures and My Videos, and these only contain the standard sample stuff. Basically, my user is like new again! All my installed programs were there however.
installed second hard drive, moved program files from c drive to folder i created in new drive.installed farcry onto new folder.but farcry files where scattered allover & not in folder of its own.uninstalled farcry with program called my uninstaller.pc then froze couldnt get into task manager,so switched off pc.when i restarted, disaster, folder in new drive had gone along with my programs ,mostly games,
Well, reciently I've discovered that my C:WindowsSystem32 folder is gone. Just gone. And it seems that any time a program tries to open something in that folder, it just pops up and says that the file is missing or whatnot.
1. The files are still there. I can access them through IE by typing in the dir in the address bar.
2. The folder is supposedly "Hidden," but I have it set to view all hidden files and folders.
Yesterday I decided to cut and paste a 1.3 gig folder from one partition to another on a seperate drive. The file transfer proceeded, however, after a couple of minutes a message appeared saying it couldn't move the folder as it was currently being used by another program. I closed notepad which was the program involved. I then went to the partition where the folder was originally kept but the folder was not present. I went to partition where I had attempted to move the folder and found the folder but it was completely empty. Somewhere on my drives is 1.3 gig of infornmation in about six files,
Windows Explorer has disappeared from my computer. Here's what happened: 1. I clicked on Windows Explorer; 2. the little flashlight popped up and said it was searching; 3. the flashlight went away and a new window opened which was titled "Remote Assistance; 4. now the Windows Explorer Icon is gone, as is the Windows Exporer program itself, and the Remote Assistance Icon is on my Start button list instead. I have looked everywhere for the program and it cannot be found.I ran a full scan and there were no problems found. I have also run sfc /scannow to no avail.
one of the user profiles in Windows XP Pro has disappeared. I cannot recover the files because the folder in Documents and Settings has disappeared too. I am running a virus scan now
A few days ago I was using the computer when I got a BSOD which told me to restart if this is the first time I got this error so I restarted and everything went back to normal. I don't know if this is related to the problem I have now. Today I accidentally disconnected the computer from electricity and when I started it again I got an error message which said that the "<windows root>system 32hal.dll" file is missing or corrupted. I restarted the computer and got the same error again. I put the windows installation cd in the cd drive and chose Repair but it didn't ask me to choose a windows installation to fix and when I tried to find the hal.dll file in the windows folder using the command prompt I discovered that the entire WINDOWS folder was missing from the C: drive. (also, when I tried the "cd" command I got "Access is denied" and all the drive letters were different but I'm not sure this is relevant) I also used chkdsk on the c: drive with no change.
I decided to install windows on another drive to try and recover the windows folder from explorer but when I ran the file recovery program on the windows drive I found that some files from the windows folder (which no longer exists so the recovery program refers to as "?") were overwritten by files I downloaded during the last 3 days and their size was ~150 MB so I think maybe these were only temp files. I thought maybe I accidentally moved the windows folder without noticing the last time I used the computer so I searched for it and only found a "WINDOWS" folder in my "Documents and settings" folder which only contained a "system" folder which itself was empty (I don't know if this folder was always there or is related to the problem I have now). The strange thing is the free space on the drive didn't increase after the windows folder disappeared so I think it could still be there.
Any help would be appreciated. also, if there is no way to fix this I would still like to know what happened...
Awhile back I was organizing my picture files and accidentally pressed a few keys, which seems to have caused my file and folder names to disappear in that one folder. I can see them fine in list, icon, tile, or detail view, but in filmstrip or thumbnail view they have disappeared! I use WindowsXP. How can I unhide the file names?
I was deleting one email in an outlook folder (a personal folder), and the entire folder and contents--all emails--disappeared. Can't find them anywhere...They did not go to the delete folder. Any way to retrieve them? Do you know what happened? (I have Windows XP.)
Somehow I lost the icon at the bottom of the screen when I minimize a tab. It used to be at the bottom so I could flip back and forth between applications. How do I get my minimized icons back.
My problem is that, the Shared folder and "User's documents" folder in My Computer window, in XP Pro are not visible. I think it s possible that the registry keys are missing.
I opened windows explorer and I think it was taking up so much memory that it froze-I had to wait a while for it to work properly, and then it was really slow(even for my slow pc,I had windows live messenger and itunes' windows open and they just disappeared from the taskbar, and I had to right click on their icons in the right corner(is that the notification area-I forgot),and when they reappeared on the taskbar I had to right click on them, and they would only open when I clicked maximize. It took me a while to open some things in windows explorer too
my folder icon in contol panel is not present . how can i back my folder icon in cotrol panel.also folder option in tools menu of directory is also not present.how can i see hidden files in my system.
There is this folder in my Control Panel, it has no name, nothing whatsoever. The only actions it can do is Open and Create Shortcut, nothing else. It sits as the first icon, before Accessibility Options.I was afraid to open this folder, for it may be a malware or something. But anti-virus and anti-spyware scans came up clean.
I have been experiencing a problem with Windows Explorer where i cannot open any folders, Control Panel, etc. When I try to do so, explorer restarts. I tried a System Restore and that fixed the problem for the moment, but it came back a couple days later. I ran a virus scan (Norton) and it didn't find anything of note.
My folder options is missing in the control panel as well as in the tools menu. only options that show in tools menu are (Map Network Drive,Disconnect Network Drive,Synchronize)
When looking for some files, I tried to unhide a folder and it just made more folders disappear. I checked the Hidden folders option (in the properties window of the folder that contained the files I was looking for) and the folder I was in became hidden. I cleared the box for hide folders but it is still hidden.
I am not able to log on to IE or my control panel. It just started doing this yesterday. I don't know where my Norton antivirus software went. It is also missing now. The system is very sluggish.
