No Folder Options Control Panel - No Access Hidden Files

Option Show Hidden Files In Control Panel / Folder Options Disappeared
May 16, 2008After my pc has been infected by the "bagle prague" (hldrrr/wintems/flec006/srosa) i got cleaned by a software called Regrun. But the malwares have left some problems on my pc. The main problem is : In Control Panel / Folder option / View, i cant find the options related to "show hidden files". In this forum there is a solution already posted,but it didnt solve my problem.

May 11, 2005i have a 8 month old computer with 512Mb RAM 3Ghz intel P4 processer and a 160Gb hard drive. basically i think there are missing system files because my computer has slowed right down when opening folders / applications and i cannot access the control panel (it says windows explorer has had to close). i run the free AVG virus scanner, Zone Alarm firewall and the AOL spyware protection.

Jan 6, 2007Windows XP service pack 2.I have a churches computer that was infected with "INFOSTEALER", "TROJAN.VB.jy" and "DOWNLOADER.CRYPTIC.f" that I volunteered to try to fix.I searched the threads and followed the instructions listed to remove them and was successful. Thankyou for the help.But still have the issue of not being able to change the "FOLDER OPTIONS"/ "VIEW"/ "HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS" selection has both "DO NOT SHOW---" and "SHOW HIDDEN-" selected. If I select either one it will stay only as long as I do not close the Folder Options box. As soon as it is closed it will again default back to both hide and show.I cannot find any threads with this issue except the mention in the one thread about "INFOSTEALER" that I used to get me this far. What did I miss?

Sep 10, 2007I've seen similar recent threads opened detailing similar problems you've looked into. My control panel icon has vanished from my start menu, the link to it in My Computer has gone too and when I try to access it via the Run function using control.exe I am greeted with the message of "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, please contact your administrator".I'm sure this is a malware problem I've picked up off the web but I've got no idea of how to fix the problem. Your help would be very gratefully received.

I backed up everything on an Iomega external hard drive using Acronis True Image software. Everything worked fine and I have all my files back, except for my email address books (7 Of them) and my saved email folders (about 20 of them). I use Thunderbird for my email. The email data are all in my hard drive but are in hidden files. I can locate them but cannot figure out how to open them and read them - and neither can I import them. Here is an example for just one file: abook.mab C:Documents and SettingsWilliamApplication DataThunderbirdProfiles|zvcjz11s.default
All files are "Read" files and this is the message I get when I click on "Read" : Adobe Reader could not open 'abook.mab'
