View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a folder (MyComputer, for example), and try to right-click or double-click an icon to open it- it does not work. When I right-click the icon, NOTHING happens. When I double-click the icon, the icon gets highlighted, but the program or other folder does not open. I checked in the folder options, and it is set up so that when you double-click an icon, it opens the program. But the weird thing about it is that if I try to double-click or right-click an icon on my desktop.. it works like it should. So this really just doesn't make sense.

View 1 Replies View Relatedwe were using the computer last night all was normal (running very smoothe & fast) get up this morning and turn on the computer log into windows. come upto the desktop click in IE and nothing happens. so i look in the system tray and nothing but the clock is there. weird i think to myself. so i click on start and it doesnt come up, its liek the computers response tme is cut by 99.9%. finally after about 15 minutes start window pops up. i click on control panel (to get to admn tool >event viewer) and after i click on control panel the start window disappears adn nothing ever happens. i religiously run spyblaster , adaware , spybot search&destroy, registry mechanic , and check windows update everyday. i run panda for AV program and it is set to auto update.

i have XP Pro Basically I was messing around in file types because my folder icons were botched. Ran TweakUI to fix folder icons, but here is what happened. double clicking a folder opened the search window. So i went into file types and created a new action, and pointed it at explorer.exe from my windows directory. Now, the problem is, when i double click it opens the folder in a new window, instead of the same.
when I am in the advanced settings of file types (tools-folder options-file types) the Edit and Remove buttons will not light up, but i am the administrator. Restore defaults doesn't work.
Is there a backend way to fix this anyone knows of, short of reformatting ?? system restore to a previous date did nothing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows XP. When working in Microsoft explorer and double-click on any folder it does not open the folder, it opens Search window. Only way I can open and see content of my folder is to right click on folder and choose explore.
When I try to open one of My Folders (One that I added to my desktop with application I added to it) with a double left click a search results window opens instead of the folder opening and displaying the contents of the folder with things I've put into it. If I right click on one of my folders and go down and left click on open the folder will open and the contents displayed as I expect (The first opetion displayed is a search after I right click). Any other folder including My Documnets folder will open the folder and display the contents correctly.At one time it used to work correcly and its not a major issue but I would sure like it fixed > Any ideas?

i then bolded "enqueue in winamp" and clicked "set default" then clicked ok.
every file folder i click on, the default action is enqueue in winamp.i was having a problem with my right click context menu and winamp wasnt an option(i uninstalled winamp,reinstalled,went into options,everything to no avail).SO i thought this may do the trick in adding it to my right click options.
How i can change this back to the default norm of clicking on the file folder and entering to see its contents
Can I totally remove a file association so that type of file once again has no association set? I set some dat files to open with WMP which was fine for my purposes then but later changed them to mpeg files and so don't need to keep that dat file association anymore. I want to get the dat files back to having no particular program assigned to open them. All I can do now is change it to other programs which isn't what I want. Any way to start with a clean slate again? (I guess I could change the dat icon so I can tell what they are if there's not a way to unassociate them.) Dat files have always kind of spooked me, I want to be sure people don't click them thinking they'll play a vcd.

Right-clicking the taskbar even in the program is uncool.The catch is, I can execute any CP dialog EXCEPT this one as a command line, either passing a dialog parameter to Control.exe or else using a *.cpl file name with Control.exe or directly. But I can't find "Taskbar and Start Menu".
