I have a problem. When I double click a folder, I am sent to the Search Results folder and the content of my folder is not displayed. To access the files from a folder I need to right-click and click on the Open command

When I try to open a file by double clicking,Windows XP opens the search window. Any clues on how to fix the problem? I even tried to roll back to a
previous date when the problem wasn't there.
I'm using Windows XP. When working in Microsoft explorer and double-click on any folder it does not open the folder, it opens Search window. Only way I can open and see content of my folder is to right click on folder and choose explore.
When I try to open one of My Folders (One that I added to my desktop with application I added to it) with a double left click a search results window opens instead of the folder opening and displaying the contents of the folder with things I've put into it. If I right click on one of my folders and go down and left click on open the folder will open and the contents displayed as I expect (The first opetion displayed is a search after I right click). Any other folder including My Documnets folder will open the folder and display the contents correctly.At one time it used to work correcly and its not a major issue but I would sure like it fixed > Any ideas?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a folder (MyComputer, for example), and try to right-click or double-click an icon to open it- it does not work. When I right-click the icon, NOTHING happens. When I double-click the icon, the icon gets highlighted, but the program or other folder does not open. I checked in the folder options, and it is set up so that when you double-click an icon, it opens the program. But the weird thing about it is that if I try to double-click or right-click an icon on my desktop.. it works like it should. So this really just doesn't make sense.

Ran TweakUI to fix folder icons, but here is what happened. double clicking a folder opened the search window. So i went into file types and created a new action, and pointed it at explorer.exe from my windows directory. Now, the problem is, when i double click it opens the folder in a new window, instead of the same.
when I am in the advanced settings of file types (tools-folder options-file types) the Edit and Remove buttons will not light up, but i am the administrator. Restore defaults doesn't work.
Is there a backend way to fix this anyone knows of, short of reformatting ?? system restore to a previous date did nothing.
Whenever I double click on a picture in my pics folder it refuses to open it up to a bigger window that shows the pic enlarged. I also cant use any of them as a picture for my desktop.this is what the window that pops up states..

On those occasions, the In Folder results point not to the disc drive but to c:documents & settings[name]Local Settings Applications Data. In short, not to where the files are. To add insult to fubar, clicking on any folder in the list results in -- absolutely nothing because I am clicking on a phantom folder (duh). I know that if I scroll across to the right, miles outside the screen view, I'll finally see where the file in question actually resides -- major and unappreciated pain. Is there a config or reg edit somewhere that will allow me to set the In Folder to show the file where it actually is, referencing the disc drive, instead of the above c:. If not, at the very least, I think Microsoft should share some of what the Einstein was smoking the day he came up with this one.

Anyway, after doing that, I noticed that if I try to double-click on a disk drive it'll go to Search. And if I double-click on a folder it'll go to Clear Read Only Attributes. View 3 Replies View RelatedI had some spyware/viruses/malware recently, and they've now all been cleaned up with internet security software, but I still have a lingering problem: when I double-click on a folder, instead of the folder opening, a new window opens and it's a search window, with the destination folder (ie the one I just clicked on) as a value in the parameter "look in:". The only way I can just open a folder is to right-click, and select open.
When I right-click on a folder, the menu reads: "Search (bolded) / Open / Explore" etc. which doesn't seem right.
I tried to fix it by changing some options in Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types. There are two kinds of folder, "File Folder" and "Folder". In the advanced options for "File Folder", the only action it lists is "find"... I'm not sure if this is where the problem is or if this is normal? I tried to add a new action, but it wanted me to select an application to perform the action and I have no idea... In the advanced options for "Folder", it looks to be normal, it lists the actions "explore" and "open" (bolded).
The only folder that seems unaffected by this problem is the "Documents" folder on the desktop, and any shortcuts that point to folders.
