Windows Explorer has disappeared from my computer. Here's what happened: 1. I clicked on Windows Explorer; 2. the little flashlight popped up and said it was searching; 3. the flashlight went away and a new window opened which was titled "Remote Assistance; 4. now the Windows Explorer Icon is gone, as is the Windows Exporer program itself, and the Remote Assistance Icon is on my Start button list instead. I have looked everywhere for the program and it cannot be found.I ran a full scan and there were no problems found. I have also run sfc /scannow to no avail.
Somehow I lost the icon at the bottom of the screen when I minimize a tab. It used to be at the bottom so I could flip back and forth between applications. How do I get my minimized icons back.
Need to find a file, I go to hit control + F shortcut for search, and I screw up. Somehow I managed to remove the entire top half of explorer! So now all of my folders look like this: And to make matters worse, search doesn't work anymore. So, how do I get my folders back to normal?
I opened windows explorer and I think it was taking up so much memory that it froze-I had to wait a while for it to work properly, and then it was really slow(even for my slow pc,I had windows live messenger and itunes' windows open and they just disappeared from the taskbar, and I had to right click on their icons in the right corner(is that the notification area-I forgot),and when they reappeared on the taskbar I had to right click on them, and they would only open when I clicked maximize. It took me a while to open some things in windows explorer too
I don't know how it happened, but "My Computer" has disappeared. I can get to it from a straight explorer, but it's gone from my Start Menu and any program now that opens a "Select Folder" type dialog opens My Network Places and My Computer cannot be accessed.Note I keep it off my desktop, but even if I try to re-enable it on the desktop (Display-->Desktop-->Customize Desktop, Select it, OK), it doesn't work. When I go to Customize Start Menu, It's Listed as "Display as a Menu" but won't show up Kindof wierd? My guess is some line(s) in the Registry got erased somehow
I am running XP and have the Classic Desktop settings, I was working from my external HD and I shut in down and went to open it back up from My Computer and it was not there. I copied and placed another one on the Desktop and it shows as a copy and when I go to rearrange my Desktop to (type)and My Computer does not go where it orignaly suppose to be.
i use windows xp professional suddenly my 'my computer' icon on the desktop has disappeared.can you please advise how i access/ retrieve my local disk drives.
I have lost my documents and settings somewhere.I click on my computer, local disk c:, then the document and setting folder. All that's in there is the all user folder. When I right click on the d&s folder, it says there is 8.64GB, which is about right. When I click on the all user folder, it's only 60.0MB.So I am assuming its somewhere, I just don't know how to get it back. Also, my favorites in Explorer disappeared, too. When I try to go back and add some that I already had, I get the message that it already exists.Could the folder somehow got hidden?
This is frustrating. The last time I shut the computer down everything was fine. Today my wife used it for Market Day and LTD then went offline and put it to sleep. When I woke it up, the 1st thing I noticed was that the desktop Tetris icon was black. The shape was there but it was black. I tried to change the icon in the shortcut properties and saw the correct icon there but it kept turning black when I applied it. Then I went to My Computer. Wow. Most of the icons were gone and replaced by that MS arrow icon. There was even a folder that wouldn't come up or show anything.Well, lets see. My system is 1 year old and is a generic one. Intel MOBO (915 I think), P4@3.2, 1gRam, SATA HD 15% used, Windows 2000Pro W/SP4.
My problem is that, the Shared folder and "User's documents" folder in My Computer window, in XP Pro are not visible. I think it s possible that the registry keys are missing.
I am currently having a problem trying to access My Computer, I will double click on the desktop icon and it wont open. All my desktop icons will disappear along with my task bar for a few seconds then reappear. then nothing will happen as if i never clicked it in the first place. I've tried accessing it through the start menu but to no avail. the rest of my desktop icons work but for some reason i cant get into My Computer. Is this a virus perhaps?

I added another 150G hard drive last year to my computer...it worked just fine for almost a year and then when I was defragmenting I got a message saying a file was corrupted and since then that drive has vanished from my computer It was labeled G and I had it almost filled and now no matter what I try computer doesn't acknowledge the drive anywhere I look...if I run the defragment program it doesn't even show the G drive and in Windows Explorer nothing shows for that drive either
I have a BenQ DVD Writer as Master and the Dell CD/DVD ROM drive as slave. Both work, both show up in Device Manager, but the CD/DVD ROM does not show in MY COMPUTER, even though it works fine!
When I open windows explorer I see My Computer, My Network Places, Recycle Bin, and Internet Explorer. I no longer see My Documents. How do I get them back to show in windows explorer?
When attempting to browse folders using Explorer opened from Start Menu Or left click on start button, Explorer will allow click on "-" to close paths, but hangs with hour glass if any attempt is made to expand any path or open any file. Explorer remains in this state until closed, at which time Windows asks if I wish to report the problem to Microsoft. If I use the"My Computer" icon on the desktop to browse, all actions including access to networked resources work perfectly.explain the difference between the two file browsing utilities and offer an explanation of the above.
I'm getting quite annoyed at the problems that I think Explorer is causing.Things generally run fine until I open Explorer if I need to copy files etc. Most times, but not all the time, it will stop repsonding and i need to end the task in task manager. The rest of the system works without problem.I have attached a Hijack This log file. Even when the log file opened (txt format) it stopped resoponding and I had to use Task Manager to close the log file.
I have tried preventing Automatic Folder and Icon Refresh, and still nothing works. It can take my system up to 2 minutes to open the MyComputer folder, every other folder is fast, weird.
when i try to update msn messenger my internet explorer just stops workin, something to do with the active x? it also does it when i try and download the macromedia player8 as i explained in my klast thread.
When I try to up date microsoft when it gets to the update site it connects and comes up microsoft is checking to see if you have the active x to update it freezes.
I'm having a problem with my explorer.exe. When i start the computer, explorer.exe doesn't start up. I have to manually go into task manager and run it from the new task tab.
The computer was fine friday night. Last thing i did was run it in safe mode and run my Norton anti-virus software, since it takes a few hours to run. But when i restarted the computer on saturday, it greeted me with an empty desktop. I did a few preliminary things such as run some spyware programs (spybot), ran the Norton antivirus again, and did a system restore from a week a go, but to no avail.
I would very much like to get this fix. Im about to start writing my thesis for school, and i need my computer to be at its best behavior. Can't lose a 100 page document few months before its due. Im including the HJT log in case there is some valuable information. I kinda know what should be running in my computer, but maybe you guys can see something different in it.
My computer lately has been slowing down and my IE explorer keeps crashing on certain sites from some odd reason. I have ran spyware, adware, virus, malaware scans on a frequent bases but it still does not work.
My computer has recently been freezing quite a bit. I have re-installed the op sys win2k prof. and it still does this. I have learned to live with the freezing not a big deal i just re-start often. Anyway today it really started acting up. I get to the login screen type in my password and it loads the desktop but before i can click on anything it gives me an error message saying that explorer has caused an error and will be closed and must be re-started, then it says generating error log. At this point i click ok and there is nothing on the desktop and there is no start bar. The only button combo that works is ctrl alt del. I have tried to boot into safe mode and it does the same thing. Today i had just finished installing new updates from microsoft and it froze right after doing this so i just had to do a hard re-start could this have screwed up the op sys??
This is more an annoyance than a problem. The File, Edit etc. menus in My Computer, Internet Explorer etc have recently changed from the grey they were before to having a white border and grey area where the menu text is. On hover, they no longer turn blue, and if they are opened, they have a grey border around the entire menu.
When I run IE, Outlook or several other applications, which I can't run at the same time or the computer works forever to do anything, my CPU usage jumps to 100%. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
My son gave me his laptop after mine quit, it has WinXP in it, as my other one did. However, this computer does not have Windows Explorer in the program files. (I know it's supposed to be in Program Files/ Accessories--it just is missing) I don't know how to do anything without Windows Explorer.
whenever i start up my computer, internet explorer tries to open up a site called 'chatraffic.com' but it cannot open the site. i've tried numerous things to get the internet explorer to not come up anymore, but nothing has worked. i've tried getting spyware, but about 5 different ones didnt do the trick. does anyone know how i can get this to stop occurring?
This is a brand new computer that i have had for less than a day. I was getting the computer set up and now I have no icons on the desktop. I was able to restore some of them by resetting the icon under properties.... Internet Explorer still doesn't come up and now my control panel icons do not come up either.
