This is a brand new computer that i have had for less than a day. I was getting the computer set up and now I have no icons on the desktop. I was able to restore some of them by resetting the icon under properties.... Internet Explorer still doesn't come up and now my control panel icons do not come up either.
View 7 RepliesI was wondering how to fix this problem, the icon for internet explorer in the start menu shows up as an unknown file icon. The icon on the desktop for IE shows fine but when i try to click on it, it creates a shortcut for internet explorer. if click on IE from the start menu, it opens IE with no problems.

I feel so violated!!!! So, what I want to do is look and see if I can find into our computers and view who, what, when & where. without going to the History icon in Internet Explorer, what can I do. I already baught an application that would print logs, but not info logged before I downloaded the app.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer at work has been recently upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP. Funny thing is that the Internet Explorer icon (not a shortcut) doesn't show on the desktop. When I right click on the desktop to open the display properties and select the IE icon to be displayed, it still doesn't show on screen. I can only find shortcuts. They're not what I need because when you right click on a shortcut, the IE properties don't show (so you can't delete history or cookies).

Now there is an icon there, but I get all the options if you were to right click on IE on your desktop.My work has changed to a new program. I was playing Diablo 2 today and my Internet Explorer 6 icon on my desktop (icon available in desktop settings, not a shortcut) seems to have reverted to something from Internet Explorer 4 or earlier. I've tried re-applying the Windows XP theme (this worked for me on the original Diablo on my old PC when the start button did something similar) but no luck. I'm good at computing (e.g. I can edit the registry easily, follow instructions, I know quite a lot about XP) but I've never had a problem like this before. I'm gonna have to ask for help on this one.

It will not update anti virus (free AVG) or connect with Firefox or Netscape. The firewall is not blocking. I checked all admin service permissions and can't find any problems. When I run IE, Outlook or several other applications, which I can't run at the same time or the computer works forever to do anything, my CPU usage jumps to 100%. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was on Firefox, which didn't have flash, so i decided to switch to Internet explorer, when i opened the program, my screen froze and i could not click on anything, it began to flash randomly, I couldn't do anything so i shut down the computer by the power button. I restarted the computer everything still working, and went back into Internet explorer 8 to see if it was still doing it. Yet again it happened and I powered down. When i started it again, the bios screen had small faint lines going though it in some places it continued to boot and got to a blue screen, and then nothing happens.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer is infected. I have ccCleaner, Spybot, Ad-Watch, Ad Aware, Windows live onecare. I have ran them all but I am still having problems. When I log onto Internet Explorer I get a blue screen that tells me I need to reset my security settings in order to view my home page which is road runner. I followed the instructions and nothing. I cannot view any flash sites. I tried to see if I am missing a flash player and I cannot locate one. When I try to download Adobe Flash Player, I am unable to do so as the download button does not appear on my screen ( I know where the button is supposed to be because I checked out the site on my daughters computer,which I am on now). I also tried to download other software to help with the spyware and malware, however the minute I hit download I either instantly get disconnected from the internet or I get an error message that says " Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down...". I have gone into safe mode and ran spybot and the others and still no better. I am getting a message that Windows Firewall is disabled, however when I got to it Its grey and it wont let me turn it on. I have been trying to fix my computer for days and am completely fustrated,

It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

Ever since I installed XP Home Edition on this computer, it boots up with problems.It always starts 2 copies of Windows Explorer. I can't find anywhere to
stop this from happening. It must be in the registry.My Internet Explorer cannot be launched by clicking on a link in my Eudora email client or my news reader. All it does is go to About:blank. I have searched for any hijacker that might cause this and came up empty each time.
Doing a clean install of xp media ctr edition on a new hitachi 250 SATA, 1.2ghz AMD processor 2gb ram. Can't set up internet connection, won't access help files, I.E. not installed. I think it didn't install completely? Tried twice reformating the drive each time. No success.

I can't get my adapter to work with the personal computer running XP home but one of the personal computer running XP pro has no trouble. I also have a printer that will not work with the XP home.
