Internet Explorer 6 Icon - Quot - Reverted"

I was playing Diablo 2 today and my Internet Explorer 6 icon on my desktop (icon available in desktop settings, not a shortcut) seems to have reverted to something from Internet Explorer 4 or earlier. I've tried re-applying the Windows XP theme (this worked for me on the original Diablo on my old PC when the start button did something similar) but no luck. I'm good at computing (e.g. I can edit the registry easily, follow instructions, I know quite a lot about XP) but I've never had a problem like this before. I'm gonna have to ask for help on this one.

I have searched to see if this was asked before without any success. Maybe someone has run into this problem before. When I open "my computer" or "control panel" after I close it...it automatically goes into Internet Explorer as a blank page. Most of the time, when I close the IE blank page.it stops responding and I have the control-alt-delete to "end the program"

I was wondering how to fix this problem, the icon for internet explorer in the start menu shows up as an unknown file icon. The icon on the desktop for IE shows fine but when i try to click on it, it creates a shortcut for internet explorer. if click on IE from the start menu, it opens IE with no problems.

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.
But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

I have a very small business & can't afford tech support on this. Anyway, someone on my system went where they shouldn't have and we got an infection. I feel so violated!!!! So, what I want to do is look and see if I can find into our computers and view who, what, when & where. without going to the History icon in Internet Explorer, what can I do. I already baught an application that would print logs, but not info logged before I downloaded the app.

I cant find my Internet explorer icon anywhere. I went to desk top properties>advanced and tried to click on "keep IE icon on desk top" that you advised another person on here to do but its not there to click on it. The icon is how I get on the internet and would like to have it back.

This is a brand new computer that i have had for less than a day. I was getting the computer set up and now I have no icons on the desktop. I was able to restore some of them by resetting the icon under properties.... Internet Explorer still doesn't come up and now my control panel icons do not come up either.

My computer at work has been recently upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP. Funny thing is that the Internet Explorer icon (not a shortcut) doesn't show on the desktop. When I right click on the desktop to open the display properties and select the IE icon to be displayed, it still doesn't show on screen. I can only find shortcuts. They're not what I need because when you right click on a shortcut, the IE properties don't show (so you can't delete history or cookies).

I just installed IE7 over IE6, but I cannot seem to find IE listed in Add/Remove Programs or in the Start Programs menu. How can I find it and get the shortcut icon on the desktop? Also, I need the shortcut for WinXP 'shutdown'.

I have a new PC with XP 64 bit/IE 7. I then installed Firefox. There is no icon for IE on the start menu, just the Firefox icon. In all programs, I right clicked on IE to pin to start menu. Now there is an icon there, but I get all the options if you were to right click on IE on your desktop.My work has changed to a new program. Wave to make adjustments to trusted sites and internet properties. Their instructions are to right click on the start menu internet explorer, which gives the options of "browse the internet, internet properties, and remove from this list

I right clicked on the Taskbar and checked Quick Launch and hit the Apply button. This put the Quick Launch toolbar on the Taskbar with the Show Desktop and Internet Explorer icons. I deleted them and now I can't duplicate this action. I can get the Internet Explorer icon back. But I can't get the Show Desktop icon back.

Using Windows XP SP2 with all updates and with Internet Explorer 7
Have noticed the internet explorer is now displaying it's wrong icon on my program shortcuts [That is = Start = Programs = say - Legacy Family Tree = and there they are showing as a white back ground with small dots coloured, Red , blue and green? There are 4 users on this computer. My user ID works fine but all the others do not. When I try to select "Start" I get the Windows Explorer has encountered a problem ...." , then I get a Dr. Watson failure error message.

If I open "My Computer" and then I double click on the C: drive icon (or any drive), it opens up a new window with the Search panel on the left. If I right click on a drive, the menu comes up and "Search" is the in bold, indicating it is the default. How can I change this so it is no longer the default, but opening it up with "Open" as the default?

Sometime today, the listing under "My Computer" in Windows Explorer has changed from listing only drive (floppy A, hard drive C, and CD-RW E), shared files, and Liz's documents to listing "Control Panel" with the other items. I did not do anything that I'm aware of to put it there, and the checkbox under Tools, Folder Options, View for "display Control Panel under My Computer" is NOT checked. I have tried checking and unchecking it, rebooting, using GoBack to go back to the settings in effect when I booted the computer this morning, to no avail.

When i'm on a web page and i click the "favourites" (yellow star button) in WinXP (on the toolbar above the web page) i see all my favourite websites, but the little yellow icon does not appear beside them, so i'm unsure whether they are direct links to the web pages or whether they are folders containing the links !! Oddly enough, when i plug in my USB HD, the little yellow folder icons re-appear What can i do to get the folders icons back (without having to keep my USB HD switched on) ?

when i tried to right click on my drives, i.e. c drive, removable disks, the option only includes open and explore. However, when i tried to right click on folders, the available option includes open, explore and search.. how do i include the "search" option?

there is an icon on my desktop called "crack22a", and when i try to delete it a message comes up saying "it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using it and try again". i dont know what program is using it. i scanned it with antivir, so its not a virus. if i double click on it, an error message comes up saying ".../crack22a.exe is not a valid win32 application". i think i was downloading it, and firefox crashed. so it never downloaded all of it.

I have an extremely slow response when I open up "My Computer". The same things happens when I try and type in a web address, very slow repsonse. All of the other progams on my computer work properly. I have ran several anti-virus and spyware programs, and they all came back clean.

I have suddenly lost my Connection icon for my Dial-up Connection that used to appear in the notification area of the toolbar. (XP Home). So far I have tried Unchecking and rechecking the box that says "show icon ion the connection area".Deleting and remaking the Connection.Tweaking the Start menu and Taskbar properties.A restore back a day.I can bring up a status box if I click on the connection after it is first connected, and shut down the connection from it, but I no longer have any other way of shutting the connection down, other than re-booting.

All of a sudden, I can't get online. I use MSN and when I click on the icon to access the internet, I get a message "MSN detects no internet connection--We could not detect an internet connection" I've checked all internet and network files/connections. All is fine. I have Verizon DSL, they checked out the puter and said it was a Dell problem.

I have this weird icon problem. im not sure if this is some bad thing, but once in a while one of my desktop icons, like MY COMPUTER changes to a different icon that's on my desktop. MY COMPUTER still takes me to the right place but the icon thing is just annoying. once i actually thought MY COMPUTER got deleted, then i noticed the icon changed to a video game icon that was right next to it

I installed the XP SP3 updates before the automatic updates managed to tell me it was available.
The auto update icon on the task bar now permanently tells me I have updates waiting to be installed - even though I've re-installed them again using the auto updater.I have auto updater set to tell me when new updates are available but not to install them automatically.
