System Without Going History Icon Internet Explorer
Apr 20, 2005
I have a very small business & can't afford tech support on this. Anyway, someone on my system went where they shouldn't have and we got an infection. I feel so violated!!!! So, what I want to do is look and see if I can find into our computers and view who, what, when & where. without going to the History icon in Internet Explorer, what can I do. I already baught an application that would print logs, but not info logged before I downloaded the app.
is there a way i can look up what sites i've been to online within the last few days? i saw a video on Internet that i flagged and i want to be sure it gets deleted - actually, it needs something more than just being pulled from Internet, it needs police involvement. i think. i'm so worried about what i saw that i've been up all night trying to retrace my steps, no luck. i can't remember what search i used that led me to the video so i have to rely on something on my computer that'll get me back there.
Internet Explorer keeps track of each URL that you type in the address bar as a convenience to save you from typing the next time that you visit that site. However, any user that uses your computer can find out what addresses you typed in as well so some may be interested in clearing the address bar addresses. Just clearing the browser history will not do this as a registry modification is needed
I am running XP Home. Once I delete the internet history from the internet options, close IE, re-open IE and the history I just deleted comes back to life? Scanned my system using Norton System Works and Internet Security. Supposedly no virus or spyware or such.
Internet Explorer has a couple of history items that will not go away when i delete my history. it is really bad cause when i start my browser it starts to open a whole bunch of sites that i dont like. ive ran my alwarebytes and my hjt. and it still dont go away.does it really matter if i run a full scan on alwarebytes? if i cant get this stuff to go away i may have to reformat.
I was wondering how to fix this problem, the icon for internet explorer in the start menu shows up as an unknown file icon. The icon on the desktop for IE shows fine but when i try to click on it, it creates a shortcut for internet explorer. if click on IE from the start menu, it opens IE with no problems.
I cant find my Internet explorer icon anywhere. I went to desk top properties>advanced and tried to click on "keep IE icon on desk top" that you advised another person on here to do but its not there to click on it. The icon is how I get on the internet and would like to have it back.
This is a brand new computer that i have had for less than a day. I was getting the computer set up and now I have no icons on the desktop. I was able to restore some of them by resetting the icon under properties.... Internet Explorer still doesn't come up and now my control panel icons do not come up either.
My computer at work has been recently upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP. Funny thing is that the Internet Explorer icon (not a shortcut) doesn't show on the desktop. When I right click on the desktop to open the display properties and select the IE icon to be displayed, it still doesn't show on screen. I can only find shortcuts. They're not what I need because when you right click on a shortcut, the IE properties don't show (so you can't delete history or cookies).
I just installed IE7 over IE6, but I cannot seem to find IE listed in Add/Remove Programs or in the Start Programs menu. How can I find it and get the shortcut icon on the desktop? Also, I need the shortcut for WinXP 'shutdown'.
I have a new PC with XP 64 bit/IE 7. I then installed Firefox. There is no icon for IE on the start menu, just the Firefox icon. In all programs, I right clicked on IE to pin to start menu. Now there is an icon there, but I get all the options if you were to right click on IE on your desktop. My work has changed to a new program. Wave to make adjustments to trusted sites and internet properties. Their instructions are to right click on the start menu internet explorer, which gives the options of "browse the internet, internet properties, and remove from this list
I had to re-install windows XP..because I had a bad or missing file. Everysince then ,every time I click on my IE icon on desktop, all it does is makes a shortcut for it. Does anyone know how to solve this problem
Using Windows XP SP2 with all updates and with Internet Explorer 7
Have noticed the internet explorer is now displaying it's wrong icon on my program shortcuts [That is = Start = Programs = say - Legacy Family Tree = and there they are showing as a white back ground with small dots coloured, Red , blue and green? [think is green?]I have used in Power Tools the "Icon Repair" and still same icon is showing
I use the Firefox browser, but from time to time I have to use Explorer's. As of late I've found that every time I use Explorer my address bars history has been cleared.
I was playing Diablo 2 today and my Internet Explorer 6 icon on my desktop (icon available in desktop settings, not a shortcut) seems to have reverted to something from Internet Explorer 4 or earlier. I've tried re-applying the Windows XP theme (this worked for me on the original Diablo on my old PC when the start button did something similar) but no luck. I'm good at computing (e.g. I can edit the registry easily, follow instructions, I know quite a lot about XP) but I've never had a problem like this before. I'm gonna have to ask for help on this one.
I recently did a google search and when I entered one of the websites a prompt script download appeared, worried about what it was doing I unplugged the computer and rebooted. I started up IE and when I entered the search menu under the history toolbar the internet shortcut "what I searched" - google search could not be deleted I even ran a history cleaner and yet it was the only thing that remained in the history toolbar under the search menu.
When I attempt to open internet options the window flashes open and closed. If you blink you miss it. If I click on " Delete Browsing History" nothing happens. Everything else seems to be working. I have Zone Alarm running for virus, spyware, firewall. I scanned with Spybot and SAS.
im trying to customize Windows XP Pro to my liking very strictly and for some reason i just cannot delete the History and Temporary Internet Files folder, i 100% do not want them there but if i try delete them it comes up with History is a Windows system folder and is required for Windows to run properly. It cannot be deleted.iv'e tried booting into Linux and deleting it off their but when i booted back into windows it replaced them again, i also logged in as the SYSTEM user and deleted them but to no avail. I seriously do not want them folders their, and to my knowledge they ARE NOT required for windows to run properly.
When I try to empty my temp folder (run/%temp%) I have 3 folders that wont be removed. Cookies/History/TemporaryInternet I have no clue how they got in there to begin with. I've tried to get rid of them from the temp but it wont let me
I am constantly finding my internet folders, temp folders, recent items and other folders filled with junk links which are taking up quite a bit of space on the drive. Before I did a complete rebuild, I managed to dump over a gigabyte of junk and obsolete files from the drive, and all this logging stuff just gets on my nerves.
I posted earlier about windows explorer shutting down and I was advised to do a system restore. SO I did.. well when it rebooted, it came up blank for a long time then my programs came up..except nothing is working. I can't even get system restore to work again. I can get AOL to come up and internet explorer but when I click on a link. nothing happens. I don't want to lose my whole system. I am using windows XP home edition.
I recently wiped my computer and installed a new Windows XP SP3. Now I keep getting an alert that Windows Security is blocking Windows Explorer. How do I settle this problem so I don't keep getting the alert?
Whenever I try to use internet explorer, it will close on its own after a little while, stated that and unexpected error has occured. I have internet explorer 7. When I try to open up various things in my documents or on my external hard drive, the same thing happens. I have deleted things that I no longer use, I have run a malware program twice, and I got a new antivirus program (Symantec) and ran it three times. This has not fixed the problem. I have downloaded Mozilla Firefox, and that works well for the Internet, but I still cant open other windows without them giving me an error and closing shortly after. It is driving me crazy
I am using Windows XP Home, on an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1GB RAM. When I have been using the internet (Internet Explorer version 7) I occassionally experience a slowdown of everything internet related. I check the Tas Manager and it shows my System Idle Process using 99% of CPU. I find this odd, as my system is clearly not idle cause I am using it! My computer is on a network, and I havent heard it happening to other computers on the network until today, when the same thing occurred on another machine in the network. any ideas on what it is?
I have an XPS 400 Dell computer XP Media Center Operating System. Recently my son added modzilla to our computer. In doing so he deleted internet explorer. The computer was running sluggish so I went back to a later restore date. When the computer came back up after restore only my husband and my profile were shown. while signing into my profile i get the following error message:
EXPLORER.EXE - Unable to locate component This application has failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. re-installing the app may fix the problem.
what do i do to get this back? There are no icons or start menue on my deskdop just my background. I can view files if i go to task manager but nothing else can be done. I know very little about computers and I need help very stressed. My kids need a computer for school.
daughter has an "emachine" (I know, but it's too late) with XP. Son opened a "cheats" from Google and now they can't open internet explorer at all. Just gives us the "sorry, we'll send error report." They can right click on the "explorer" icon and open by "run as" but they can't download anything, or open new pages (assuming the other pages are stored). They play a game called Ragnarok(sp??) and that may have something to do with it, not sure. Anyway, I've checked internet connections and she is enabled, I've run Winsock and that doesn't help, even loaded Foxfire browser to bypass, but it won't open either, just gives me the same message. We even updated with the XP2, still nothing
Ok I think a family member has been logging onto my PC without my permission. I have put password access into my PC but I think they have somehow gotten around it. So I changed my password BUT is there any software that can tell me what date and time someone logged onto my system?
