Delete History - Temp Internet Files FOLDERS

im trying to customize Windows XP Pro to my liking very strictly and for some reason i just cannot delete the History and Temporary Internet Files folder, i 100% do not want them there but if i try delete them it comes up with History is a Windows system folder and is required for Windows to run properly. It cannot be deleted.iv'e tried booting into Linux and deleting it off their but when i booted back into windows it replaced them again, i also logged in as the SYSTEM user and deleted them but to no avail. I seriously do not want them folders their, and to my knowledge they ARE NOT required for windows to run properly.

When I try to empty my temp folder (run/%temp%) I have 3 folders that wont be removed. Cookies/History/TemporaryInternet I have no clue how they got in there to begin with. I've tried to get rid of them from the temp but it wont let me

I regularely use CCleaner to quickly remove junk from my computer. It empties the "Temporary Internet Files" folder and many temporary files but it does not empty the "Temp" folder in Windows XP (C:Documents and Settings(Account Name)Local SettingsTemp) or the "My Temp Files" folder within the "Temp" folder. I've noticed that videos I've watched online get stored in this folder as well as folders full of virus signatures downloaded before doing free online virus scans. Consequently this folder can quickly eat up valuable space on my laptops little hard drive.

I was just wondering if it is a good idea to clean out the :WINDOWSTempC:Documents And Settings(Username)Local SettingsTemp foldersperiodically.I know i have to uncheck the show hidden files and folders, Do i select all in each folder afterwards and delete everything?

I recently did a google search and when I entered one of the websites a prompt script
download appeared, worried about what it was doing I unplugged the computer and rebooted. I started up IE and when I entered the search menu under the history toolbar the internet shortcut "what I searched" - google search could not be deleted I even ran a history cleaner and yet it was the only thing that remained in the history toolbar under the search menu.

When I attempt to open internet options the window flashes open and closed. If you blink you miss it. If I click on " Delete Browsing History" nothing happens. Everything else seems to be working. I have Zone Alarm running for virus, spyware, firewall. I scanned with Spybot and SAS.

Since receiving a curt 'wrap on the knuckles' for not doing my research properly into another annoying prob I had, I tend to hold back and read through as many similar posts as poss.I can see the ways to get rid of temp files etc but I do not understand what is happening in my partic. case.I have a home/self build (28 May 2005)comp. for flight sim usage in the main.The help I got is no longer there for me.In My Comp/Winxp(D/Temp there are currently 52 Files & 5 Folders using 4.93MB on disk.

Is it safe to delete all the temp files? A good way I found to find them all is "Search" "Files and Folder" *.tmp Lots come up. Can I just select them all and delete them all?

I was there today and her pc is soooooo slow! She knows nothing about pc's besides email and IM.First thing I was going to do was to delete all her temp files. Went to start, clicked on run, typed in %temp% and up came 2,049 temp files! Well, duh no wonder it's slow. I was explaining to her what 'temp files' are. But she doesn't even you the internet.The first page of her temp file was as follows:DF1CF4and when I tried to delete them it said : cannot delete ~~ DF1CF4: It is being used by another person or program.As I scrolled through the next few pages they seemed to be all alike, maybe a variance of the last two numbers.

I am unable to delete certain temporary files from CD burn Problem seems to be with Illustrator ai and eps files.Tried re-booting, closing all apps and have even deleted original files from directory, but still recieve error message indicating files are in use when I try to delete them.

I've noticed that when deleting TIF's via Tools-Internet Options-Delete Files, that it takes far longer with my XP installation than with my old ME install. I see that the space allowed by default is 1192 MB. Is this the optimum size or should that be smaller to avoid accumulating so many files? I really don't recall what the setting was in ME days, but 400 MB seems to stick in my head.

A large number of files have started appearing in my WindowsTemp folder. They have the name CS.tmp where is a decimal or hexadecimal number. Most of them are
zero byte.Does anyone know what creates them? I can only delete them by using Safe
Mode. I thought they might be from Thumbs Plus (CeriousSoftware) but it is not running.

a while ago someone told me how to get rid of all my temp files while in SAFE MODE by going to START, then RUN and then typing in a command that i simply cannot recall. i've tried *TEMP*, *TMP*, *.TMP*......and many other variations, to no avail. could someone tell me what the correct command is?i just spent a couple of hours trying to see if my question was already addressed, but had no luck finding anything. forgive me if it's there, i just couldn't find it

I've been handed down a computer. It's a Sony VAIO, and comes with two hard drives. Windows is installed on an 80GB hard drive, which had (when I first booted the computer) only about 0.5GB free.I eventually found out that the temp folder under "C:Documents and SettingsMY NAMELocal Settings" was taking up almost 60GB.I emptied it of all but two files, both ending in .tmp (i forget what they were called). They were both 144KB in size. I couldn't delete them as they were "in use".So why does the computer still think that the temp folder is so enormous? Right now it says 57.5 GB. What should I do about it? I have checked that hidden files are shown, and run Cleaner and Disk Cleanup.

I am having trouble with my temp files. I have it fixed that they are suppose to dump on their own when the browser is closed but not only is it not doing that, it is not deleting when I do it manually. I will delete the temp files and cookies, and go out and open it back up and there they are! My avg says I am virus free.

I have diskcleaner installed and it cleans out histories, URLs, etc.. and it says temp files but it doesn't do that.Everytime I get an e-mail with an attachment I open the attachment and want to save it to a folder in my documents folder it see the default location as OLK1. This file is full of old attachments.I've tried going into Windows explorer but can't find this folder anywhere, (even after asking for all hidden files to be seen). I've type a search for *.tmp files to delete them but the search comes up with nothing.

When I try to delete the following four .tmp files, they simply reappear, causing problems with my ability to defrag. Files are dump429.tmp, dump4714.tmp, dump5b1b.tmp, dump8650.tmp. I'm also getting a stop error, and having trouble booting my system, it will only boot intermittenly, many times it simply keeps restarting and performing a disk check.

I burn files to a CD from my computer (XP). At the finish I can not delete them becasue of a message that says they are still in use. Help how can I remove these files. I tried removing the CD folder but that doesn't work either.

I notice that in the c:documents and settingsusernamelocal settings that there is a TEMP and a TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES directory.When I delete the temporary internet files in explorer let's say, the files are gone in the pathname above mporary interent files. My question is can I just go and delete the files in the TEMP folder manually as well? without damaging some other program applicaiton operations?

A folder lives in C:documents and settingsownerlocal settings emp.I need to know what these files and folders do, and if I may delete them safely? Had a friend who could not install any software on his pc and was advised by the geek squad at Best Buy to try and delete all the contents of this folder. he did and now is able to install software programs again. I am wondering if you don't need these files why are they there? Is it safe for everyone to just delete all these files and folders?

i am trying to delete the temp files in the windows/temp directory but they won't delete. It says a program is using them but even when i try and get rid of them in safe mode they won't delete, how can i get rid of them? Also when i try to run a panda online virus scan i click on the scan my computer icon and it does nothing but there is a little yellow exclamation mark on the bottom left of the window, is that why it isn't doing anything and if so, how can i fix it?

I am constantly finding my internet folders, temp folders, recent items and other folders filled with junk links which are taking up quite a bit of space on the drive.Before I did a complete rebuild, I managed to dump over a gigabyte of junk and obsolete files from the drive, and all this logging stuff just gets on

I have XP system. Can someone explain my temporay internet folder C:documents & settingspaullocal settings emporary internet files? I can clear all the files and then open My Yahoo or go to any internet site and the folder will then have maybe 100 files in it. If not cleared out in a couple days it can have 800 or more files in it. I do not do a lot of browsing but that folder baffles me. Is it supposed to do that or is wrong? I run anti virus & anti spam programs

After applying some recent Microsoft security updates my temp internet files
are not being deleted when I close the browser despite that option being
selected in the advanced options. the same thing happened when I updated the
wife's laptop at the same time. I have tried uninstalling the most recent

I installed a game from MSN,but later uninstalled it using Control Panel>Uninstall Programs.However in my Program Files Folder there remains a folder called MSN Gaming Zone. It has a sub-folder called Windows which in turn has 22 files. The files are all .exe and .dlls.I can't for the life of me delete these folders or the files. If I delete the files they go to the recycle bin, but then 10-15 seconds later reappear back in the MSN Gaming ZoneWindows sub-folder. If I delete them again, they reappear, and there are now 44 files in the recycle folder.The system won't allow me to delete the folders, saying they are in use.I have administrator rights on a Dell Laptop running XP Pro.
