Internet Explorer keeps track of each URL that you type in the address bar as a convenience to save you from typing the next time that you visit that site. However, any user that uses your computer can find out what addresses you typed in as well so some may be interested in clearing the address bar addresses. Just clearing the browser history will not do this as a registry modification is needed

I use the Firefox browser, but from time to time I have to use Explorer's. As of late I've found that every time I use Explorer my address bars history has been cleared.

So I pressed home button of my key board so the My Computer window converted to a web page. But after that the address bar disappeared. I closed the window and restart the machine and opened the internet explorer, but still address bar is missing. I checked under the tools and I can see the tick infront of the address bar.

View 6 Replies View RelatedInternet Explorer has a couple of history items that will not go away when i delete my history. it is really bad cause when i start my browser it starts to open a whole bunch of sites that i dont like. ive ran my alwarebytes and my hjt. and it still dont go away.does it really matter if i run a full scan on alwarebytes? if i cant get this stuff to go away i may have to reformat.

If you type in a url it works fine. I have check the advance settings and it is check to use the address bar as a search. In Internet Explorer, on the address bar, you can click the down arrow at the right end of the bar and this causes a Drop Down List to appear, that shows URLs you've recently typed in and gone to. Can this list be cleared and if so how and is the information completely gone even though you can't see it?
IE 6 I cannot see address bar, even tho it is checked in View > Toolbars. Went to Tools > Internet Options restore defaults--nothing.

In order to do so you will need a system with a second operating system installed (i.e. Windows 98, Linux, etc). My system is dual-booted with Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows XP Home Edition. Both partitions must be formated with FAT32 for this tweak to work.
1. In order to remove Internet Explorer from Windows XP without the Windows File Protection kicking in and restoring the files I am trying to delete, I booted into Windows 98 by selecting Windows 98 from the boot menu.
2. Once Windows 98 was booted I used windows explorer to browse to the drive where I installed Windows XP. In my case I double click the E: drive in Windows explorer, then Program Files, then Internet Explorer.
3. Select all the files in the directory Internet Explorer and delete them.
4. Reboot the computer into Windows XP.
5. Internet Explorer will be gone.This tweak could also be performed using Linux or DOS. But not the version of DOS that comes with Windows XP. Do not remove Internet Explorer if any of the applications you use require it to run. Furthermore, you will no longer be able to use the Windows Update feature, but you can download the patches individually.

download appeared, worried about what it was doing I unplugged the computer and rebooted. I started up IE and when I entered the search menu under the history toolbar the internet shortcut "what I searched" - google search could not be deleted I even ran a history cleaner and yet it was the only thing that remained in the history toolbar under the search menu.
When I attempt to open internet options the window flashes open and closed. If you blink you miss it. If I click on " Delete Browsing History" nothing happens. Everything else seems to be working. I have Zone Alarm running for virus, spyware, firewall. I scanned with Spybot and SAS.

I go to Start -> Accessorties -> Windows Explorer the normal Windows Explorer comes up fine, with the address bar, and everything the way I like it. However, if I go to Start -> Run -> Directory Name then Windows Explorer comes up and everything is cool except that there isn't an address bar!
I also use some shortcuts on my Quick Launch bar that point to folders; these also will open Windows explorer without an address bar. I've tried right clicking on the taskbad and selecting Address Bar, but it doesn't work.
