Computer Wont Boot Correctly: Internet Explorer Wont Work?
Jul 20, 2005
Ever since I installed XP Home Edition on this computer, it boots up with problems. It always starts 2 copies of Windows Explorer. I can't find anywhere to
stop this from happening. It must be in the registry. My Internet Explorer cannot be launched by clicking on a link in my Eudora email client or my news reader. All it does is go to About:blank. I have searched for any hijacker that might cause this and came up empty each time.
Both Firefox and Internet Explorer are not displaying correctly. Background images do not appear at all, and some foreground images simply do not load - they don't appear at all, even as an indication that loading the image has failed. Oddly, though, there's still a blank space the size of the picture in most cases. However, there's no way to select the picture or the area where the picture would be.
some sites with style-related features do not display correctly - web-based email and forums with borders, for example (Gmail is for all intents and purposes in black and white). Internet Explorer takes the problem a step further - it increases the text size to ludicrous proportions, so that even a small chunk of text takes up several pages. I have also noticed a similar problem in semi-online programs - using McAfee VirusScan, for example (which updates through a web service) results in text that is simply too large to fit into the window, rendering the program unusable.
I recently had a problem on my computer where Internet explorer was not working and would'nt open, and no windows based functions that used the explorer interface would work... So i downloaded the IE7 install package on my other computer and burned to disk to install. everything was going along fine, and when prompted to restart to finsih the installation i did so..... that is when "it" hit the fan.
I have an E6600 Dual core CPU, 2 gig ram and 36 gig raptor drive and an Antec True Power 550 watt PS. Everthing seems to work great but I can't seem to get my comands to work correctly when programing in VB4.My old computer had Win XP Media Edition and it worked well. Is there any way I could run this computer with only 1 Core. The intel Motherboard has Single Core disabled?
My computer has been running really slow for a few days now.. And I think i got many virus and spyware ..stuff like that .. But i cant seem to remove them =/ Heres my HJT Log

I have a very specific issue here with user wallpapers. I have about 20 remote offices or so that are set up with a company wallpaper and we are using BGInfo so they can easily tell us the info we need to support them. Many computers are on sales floors and we need to keep them from changing the wallpaper for obvious reasons. I have tried the solutions of using a Group Policy, changing the registry keys, denying permission to registry keys, etc . . .
All of these solutions either have the problem that the user can still right click an image and set it as the background (IE, Firefox, Paint, Image Viewer), or it does not let BGInfo work correctly. I have spent a couple days searching forums everywhere and cannot find a a solution yet.
every time put uo internet explorer i get this up internet explorer is currently running with add-ons disabled but when i check in manager add-ons thay are all enabled.
In the past I used to just copy my stuff and then when Windows went up, you know slows down, get's corrupted somewhere, etc. I would reinstall windows and then my drives, apps, programs, files, etc. Upon my studies I learned that the default Windows backup could do these things as well as recover system state. Well I started doing backups every so often on my home PC and my server at work.
The other day I actually needed to use it as my PC had this weird issue of clicking on icon executables and not ever running them. It would refuse to start programs from the executable in the folder under program files, under start menu, or command line. It wouldn't give an error it would just click and go away. it would do it once the computer was on for a while and for a week or two I just would reboot, but I mean come on, that's a little annoying.
I would like to install Internet Explorer 7 beta 2, and it does not work. So I did what they said in troubleshooting (use regmon to find a key that says "access denied" So I did that and found that HKCR/mailto is the problem. So I go into the registry and when I click on it I get an a message saying there was an error opening the key. I try change the permissions, and again I get an error message. Then I even try to delete it (I have a copy from another system to install) and again I get an error message. What can I do to fix this problem?
Browser will not resove domain names, but will connect to a URL based on an IP address. Nslookup works, but DNScache is empty (DNScache enabled). No traffic from host to resolve name detected on the modem firewall. Other PCs continue to work as normal. Was adding Service pack 3 for XP when this occurred. No other browser on this PC.
daughter has an "emachine" (I know, but it's too late) with XP. Son opened a "cheats" from Google and now they can't open internet explorer at all. Just gives us the "sorry, we'll send error report." They can right click on the "explorer" icon and open by "run as" but they can't download anything, or open new pages (assuming the other pages are stored). They play a game called Ragnarok(sp??) and that may have something to do with it, not sure. Anyway, I've checked internet connections and she is enabled, I've run Winsock and that doesn't help, even loaded Foxfire browser to bypass, but it won't open either, just gives me the same message. We even updated with the XP2, still nothing
I have just installed the Beta version of Kaspersky 2006. I'm experiencing problems with Internet explorer which cannot open full pages and shows error in script (I think that's what it is). It opens the top of the page but not the content or it just indicates that it cannot find the server or the page.
I couldn't install sp2, because of a problem I don't know... so it indicated that I had to download it again, but I could only download it by erasing it. It all came wrong! I erased a file that restarted the computer and I had to restore the system. Now I have a computer that does not allow to me be in the internet, because it restarts itself while Im'm navigating.... it also appears a message of corrupt registry that had never appeared before, but if I install messenger
Under device manager/system in windows xp sp2 should it say that no drivers are installed? also shows these devices:direct meory access controller motherboard resources numeric data processor NVIDIA nforce PCI System Management seems like there should be some type of driver installed, I am just trying to figure out why I cant get internet explorer tools>options bar to work.
windows explorer XP Pro.Instead of there being a forward slash in the title there is a strange looking W with a slash through it.Also typing Forward slash generates the funny W in windows but types correctly in IE8
My son in law's XP computer connects to internet with IE only. It will not allow site signons or logins. It will not update anti virus (free AVG) or connect with Firefox or Netscape. The firewall is not blocking. I checked all admin service permissions and can't find any problems. I also tried Winsock Fix. I'm stumped on this and don't know what to do next
As far as I know boot.ini, ntldr and ntdetect.com are vital for XP to boot correctly. A few days ago I was working on a computer, during the boot process I noticed a message stating "invalid entry in boot.ini". I decided to check it out but there was no boot.ini !! ntldr and ntdetect.com are present. My Question is there a way that ntldr can bypass the boot.ini file?
I first noticed a problem when a command prompt window popped up during startup.1.exe. After some searching I discovered it was a trojan located on c root directory. I decided to try and scan to remove it. I used Adaware and AVG free and didnt get it. (only found a few low risk tracking cookies) I then tried SpyBot but during the update process it decided it needed to install the new version so it went ahead and did this then informed me i needed to reboot. I selected not to right away. I scanned with System Mechanic to remove junk and obsolete files and got rid of them all. I then did a registry scan and deleted everything system mechanic found.
I then deleted the installation .exes and shortcuts that had been added to my desktop by Adaware and Spy bot.I also have zone alarm running all the time. When i came to restart my pc, it passes the windows XP main screen but then freezes on the Acer brand screen. It also will not boot into safe mode. I just get the normal safe mode screen but with the operating system details printed across the top and no start menu/input options etc.Ive removed and reseated the RAM and the battery.Im really stuck as to what to try next! Its an Acer Aspire laptop about 2 years old.Ive done something to kill it but nothing massively different to what i have done in the past.Im fairly good with these things but im feeling a little lost for ideas!
My problem is is when I booted my comp up yesterday, norton comes up with some odd error about not being able to scan e-mail or instant messenger for viruses, and my internet on just this computer will not work. Now this happened with my other comp when the hard drive was failing. The computer will also at some reboots take forever to get into windows.Sometimes when I try to get into network connections or my computer, it will just hang or I get the flashlight icon scanning. I was able to back up most of my stuff, but when I tried to reformat, it kept saying to close all windows and I ended every program I could think of.I also tried a system restore to Saturday when it was working normal, but I have had no luck. Is it something with windows or is another HDD going? I'm thinking of just RMA'ing the HDD and do a whole new install. My only other option is to use a Linux Suse disk I have and boot from that and see if it works. Here are my specs:Athlon 64 3200+ | Asus A8N5X mobo | 5.1 surround soundcard | 2 GB Corsair PC3200 Ram| 250gig Hitachi Hdd/60 GB WD HDD | 420w PS | EVGA Geforce 7800GT | Logitec 5.1 surrond sound speakers w/subwoofer z-560
My computer has several problems. The most serious is not being able to get Windows XP to load.I have tried booting in safe mode (F8) but I keep getting an error screen. I installed a game on the computer today that apparent has caused this problem. Any advice on how I can boot to safe mode to remove the program and do a system restore would be appreciated.
when i try to update msn messenger my internet explorer just stops workin, something to do with the active x? it also does it when i try and download the macromedia player8 as i explained in my klast thread.
When I try to up date microsoft when it gets to the update site it connects and comes up microsoft is checking to see if you have the active x to update it freezes.
My computer lately has been slowing down and my IE explorer keeps crashing on certain sites from some odd reason. I have ran spyware, adware, virus, malaware scans on a frequent bases but it still does not work.
This is more an annoyance than a problem. The File, Edit etc. menus in My Computer, Internet Explorer etc have recently changed from the grey they were before to having a white border and grey area where the menu text is. On hover, they no longer turn blue, and if they are opened, they have a grey border around the entire menu.
When I run IE, Outlook or several other applications, which I can't run at the same time or the computer works forever to do anything, my CPU usage jumps to 100%. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
whenever i start up my computer, internet explorer tries to open up a site called 'chatraffic.com' but it cannot open the site. i've tried numerous things to get the internet explorer to not come up anymore, but nothing has worked. i've tried getting spyware, but about 5 different ones didnt do the trick. does anyone know how i can get this to stop occurring?
This is a brand new computer that i have had for less than a day. I was getting the computer set up and now I have no icons on the desktop. I was able to restore some of them by resetting the icon under properties.... Internet Explorer still doesn't come up and now my control panel icons do not come up either.
I was on Firefox, which didn't have flash, so i decided to switch to Internet explorer, when i opened the program, my screen froze and i could not click on anything, it began to flash randomly, I couldn't do anything so i shut down the computer by the power button. I restarted the computer everything still working, and went back into Internet explorer 8 to see if it was still doing it. Yet again it happened and I powered down. When i started it again, the bios screen had small faint lines going though it in some places it continued to boot and got to a blue screen, and then nothing happens.
When I try to boot my computer reaches the windows screen then restarts, and keeps repeating this. Sometimes it throws up a bad pool caller error and a bsod. It gives me a Stop code: 0xc2 (0x43, 0xc3af4000, 0x0, 0x0) Additionally my keyboard no longer works, at least during startup which is all I can access. True for both USB and ps2 keyboard. The numlock light can be turned on but that's about it. So I know the connection is working but the boards still don't work, which means I've been unable to get to safe mode or into bios settings.
I downloaded a bunch of stuff on this computer and I don't know what all I need to get rid of. The computer is running really slow and Internet Explorer keeps getting redirected.
