Under device manager/system in windows xp sp2 should it say that no drivers are installed? also shows these devices:direct meory access controller motherboard resources
numeric data processor NVIDIA nforce PCI System Management seems like there should be some type of driver installed, I am just trying to figure out why I cant get internet explorer tools>options bar to work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had to reinstall windows XP because my OS would not load and I got all the drivers reinstalled, diagnostic ran smooth and everything came up working ok etc but my device manager won't recognize anything! The compy says my audio mixers are not there, my USB devices are not working, hardware wizard is not responding, microsoft updates are not working, Dell's driver downloads are calling out for something that isn't there and I really need this fixed ASAP so I can get to my external HD.
View 12 Replies View RelatedMy primary hard drive crashed and my back up that holds all my pictures, mp3's and other important items is still ok. I reinstalled windows fine on a new hard drive with no problem. My back up hard drive is not showing in my explorer list though. Does anybody know how I may access it? I've installed all motherboard software and it still is not there. I don't wanna reformat that drive unless its the only thing i can do.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set a default view for Windows Explorer but everytime I make my changes Windows doesn't seem to save the settings. I would like Windows Explorer to open with the Explorer Bar on the left with Folder view as the default. I've tried saving the view under options but this doesn't seem to work. If I close Windows Explorer it just goes back to the default view before I made my changes. Also is there a way to have Windows Explorer default to a certain directory?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows XP professional, service pack 2, on all machines. If I check "minimize on use", select an application in the "Applications" tab, and click "Switch to", it does not switch to that application but opens another window instead. I have this problem on 3 of the 4 machines I normally use. Can anyone tell me of a configuration setting that changes this behavior? The only difference between the machine that works and the ones that don't is how they connect to the network. The machines with the problem are on my home network connected through a workgroup.

So i downloaded the IE7 install package on my other computer and burned to disk to install. everything was going along fine, and when prompted to restart to finsih the installation i did so..... that is when "it" hit the fan.

I have never seen it this way before I always use FF so I don't know if this is how it is but it opens 2 IExplorers as soon as I enter windows. Does this mean I may have a virus or something?

I have installed a targus 7 port powered USB HUB on my computer. Device manager reports unknown device. I have deleted and it restalled the drived after the system rebooted. Device manager still saying unknown device. Their is not driver needed according to the manufacture. When the PC is booting it does see the IPOD mini and the Flash drive. But once the PC is fully out and login and I look a the device manager is still reporting unlnown device error (code 10).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had some trouble last night and today with getting rid of a virus. Now that it is gone, I am having sound problems (maybe related, maybe not). This morning, when I opened iTunes I got a message that there was no audio device detected. After trying several things, I rebooted. Magically, I could play music again. However, a short while later, I again got an error message telling me that there is no audio device found, even though it shows up in Device Manager as working properly. The problem goes away for a short time after I reboot, but returns. It is Realtek AC 97. Why won't my computer keep recognizing it? (It tried going to Realtek's site to download an update. It has updates for Windows 98, 95, etc., but not for XP. Or at least I couldn't find it.)

Tried Realtek audio and HD audio, tried Intel, didn't work. Tried NVidia, as it has an NVidia motherboard. Spent too much time on this computer. Can anyone lend a hand? View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen looking for some files, I tried to unhide a folder and it just made more folders disappear. I checked the Hidden folders option (in the properties window of the folder that contained the files I was looking for)
and the folder I was in became hidden. I cleared the box for hide folders but it is still hidden.
every time put uo internet explorer i get this up internet explorer is currently running with add-ons disabled but when i check in manager add-ons thay are all enabled.

So I did what they said in troubleshooting (use regmon to find a key that says "access denied" So I did that and found that HKCR/mailto is the problem. So I go into the registry and when I click on it I get an a message saying there was an error opening the key. I try change the permissions, and again I get an error message. Then I even try to delete it (I have a copy from another system to install) and again I get an error message. What can I do to fix this problem?

I don't know the time, but it happens at least 30 days after I reinstall the OS and software. Today, my computer prompted me to install drivers for a PCI Input Device, but I haven't installed any new hardware for months. Basically, I haven't touched the inside of my computer for that long. So why is Device Manager prompting me to install this mystery device? Hardware ID shows that it is from vendor 1102, which is Creative, and I have an Audigy 1. Also, my FireWire port is Code 10, the device cannot start. So I'm thinking the mystery device is the same firewire port. But why show up as a separate device? I tried removing the devices and restarting the computer, but they return to haunt me again. The device properties for the PCI Input Device says PCI SLOT 7, AND I DONT HAVE A 7th slot! Can someone help me, please? Device manager shows my 1394 Net Adapter with a yellow exclamation, and it has code 10, device cannot start. There is an unknown device, the PCI Input Device, which doesn't allow me to install any drivers for it, yet it has the creative Vendor ID 1102. It shows itself as being PCI Slot 7.

View 8 Replies View Relateddaughter has an "emachine" (I know, but it's too late) with XP. Son opened a "cheats" from Google and now they can't open internet explorer at all. Just gives us the "sorry, we'll send error report." They can right click on the "explorer" icon and open by "run as" but they can't download anything, or open new pages (assuming the other pages are stored). They play a game called Ragnarok(sp??) and that may have something to do with it, not sure. Anyway, I've checked internet connections and she is enabled, I've run Winsock and that doesn't help, even loaded Foxfire browser to bypass, but it won't open either, just gives me the same message.
