In 'tools/internet options' I am missing the section for deleting cookies and files.I only have the security options of'security/privacy/content/ connections /advanced'I dont know how or why this happened as I used to delete my temp files daily. I now have to get to them through 'my computer' and delete them all manually. My keyboard delete button is getting a work-out.

I started up my computer and the taskbar at the bottom is missing (start button, taskbar, and icons). The start menu comes up when I hit the Windows Button on my keyboard but the taskbar does not appear. The start menu also pops up when I hit Ctrl+esc but without the taskbar. When I open up a program a little icon is created at the bottom and I can click through those, but no taskbar. I tried to see if I could resize it from the bottom but the resize arrows don't come up.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a friends PC, a gateway P4 2.6, winxp home. The mouse and keyboard up and died. He had a kvm switch, the electronic kind when it stopped functioning. I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. The password IS windows admin password though. With no mouse even in safemode, and windows not accepting my admin password during repair,
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just finished assembling my new build. It boots and I can get to the BIOS. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.
When I attempt to open internet options the window flashes open and closed. If you blink you miss it. If I click on " Delete Browsing History" nothing happens. Everything else seems to be working. I have Zone Alarm running for virus, spyware, firewall. I scanned with Spybot and SAS.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen looking for some files, I tried to unhide a folder and it just made more folders disappear. I checked the Hidden folders option (in the properties window of the folder that contained the files I was looking for)
and the folder I was in became hidden. I cleared the box for hide folders but it is still hidden.
About 5 hours ago my pc crashed, since rebooting my usb keyboard no longer works when it reaches windows login. I'm completely lost with this and it's infuriating me.
- I'm running windows xp
- Never had this issue before with keyboard, it's always worked until 5 hours ago
- There is no fault with the keyboard, I've tried in on 2 other systems and it works fine
- There's no problems with the USB ports all other usb devices work and work on all the ports.
- The mouse as well as all other usb devices work fine
- I've uninstalled the keyboard several times and reinstalled with no luck
The keyboard is a generic dell one using a dell system.
- The device manager doesn't report any issues. The keyboard is listed as installed and working properly.
- The keyboard does work in BIOS just not in windows
The only way i can get into windows is to use remote desktop from another pc so i can use another systems keyboard to control this pc which is what im doing now.Having endlessly searched for a solution, nothing has worked. There was a registry fix but it hasn't worked. One thing I thought may have caused it was before I had made a registry change to IRPStackSize to try to resolve a network issue. I reverted this change back and still no response from keyboard.
I have ended up with 4 different options for XP Pro when my computer starts. This is, basically, as a result of me re-installing Widows a couple of times to try and solve a very slow running system (more help needed there but I will start a new thread for that).How do I remove the 3 unwanted start options?
View 5 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I was half way through burning an ISO file to disc using [program name deleted my mod.] (have used this many times previously without a problem), when the computer froze. Nothing worked (mouse, keyboard) and the only thing I could do was turn it off at the power button. I left it for 10 minutes, started the computer up again and the (black) screen came up giving 'you need to reboot' and 'insert a bootable disc' messages. I inserted my Windows XP disc as it's the only one I have and don't have a bootable disc, and after while I was given 3 options - one was to repair, one was to escape and I can't remember what the 3rd one was. Anyway I pressed repair and after a minute or two it said it couldn't find the hard drive (or disc) so it was unable to repair and the only thing I could do was quit. After leaving the computer off for a period of time, I switched it back on and it came up with the disc scan screen details and went through the process quickly and it said one of the sectors had been repaired and it was 'back to normal' after that.
The computer is 4 years old (Intel Pentium 4/3.2gHz/1GB RAM/Hard Drive 149GB) and I've had intermittent problems with the CPU overheating due to dust etc which I've cleaned out from time to time (as you do) and all has been well.So, in total this has happened 3 times in 24 hours but on the other two occasions when it froze, after turning it off and leaving it for a couple of minutes, it came back again as normal. The computer seems OK when it's not under load (using the internet/emails/typing documents/photo editing) but the first time you ask it a big question (e.g. copy or convert a disc) it will freeze. Is this a CPU, hard drive or motherboard problem or any other ideas please.
I can map the right mouse click onto a keyboard button? I know that on the desktop i can use shift+F10 as an alternative but I want to map it for better gaming such as alt+D. Also the shiftF10 only work on the desktop.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI use Windows XP home edition. My computer locks up every now and then, the mouse, keyboard, everything. The only way to recover it is to press the reset button. It may go for days and have no problems, then may lock up several times in one day. Than it might go for days again with no problems. It happens a lot when you are playing the windows games, but it will also do it sometimes with other programs. I have looked everywhere to try and figure it out, but I have had no luck. Do you have any ideas what might be causing this or where I can look to correct this problem?

I ran it recently and must have deleted some system files? as I no longer have access to the Help & Support (accessed from the start menu), the System information and the System Restore facility. Selecting System restore resuklts in a black dos prompt box, but i am unable to type anything into it..it just has a flashing curser. In addition, when I right click on the desktop and select properties I only get the dialogue box showing a modified theme. In order to access the other tabs (to change desktop background for example) I have to select another theme. Exiting from this and then right clicking a gain brings up the single theme box again.

Pc crashes the internet all the time, he is working on a ACER Laptop,everyone else gets internet just fine, it is his laptop that won't get it all the time, and when he does get it, it sometimes only lasts for up most to about 3 to 4 hours. if he is that lucky.could this be an internal problem? or could a file have been corrupted somewhere in the system?right now he is running a disk scan to see if it picks up anything but i don't think it will.
