Pc crashes the internet all the time, he is working on a ACER Laptop, everyone else gets internet just fine, it is his laptop that won't get it all the time, and when he does get it, it sometimes only lasts for up most to about 3 to 4 hours. if he is that lucky.could this be an internal problem? or could a file have been corrupted somewhere in the system?right now he is running a disk scan to see if it picks up anything but i don't think it will.
I have a number of XP computers (all SP2) connected to the Net via a wireless modem/router. Everything was fine until a few days ago when my connection speed dramatically slowed after being online for a few hours. This happens to all of the PCs in my home - so it's nothing internal to my PC. I tried to transfer a large file across the wireless network and it transferred fine (5Mb in 10 seconds). I can also connect to the router's web management software without problem. So it's not the wireless connection. Which leaves either my modem/router or my broadband connection. The router's "DSL" light is always on which infers that my broadband connection is OK. So that leaves my modem/router.
My wife uses a second computer that is connected via a hard wire. My internet connection is through Comcast cable and my wifes receives the internet connection through a router. The router is a Trendnet TW 100. My wife downloads and lets others in her movie room download from her files. Once in a 24 hour period her computer loses the internet connection and disrupt either her download or upload. She has been told it is the router but I opened it and do not see any shut down instruction in it. Does anyone have an idea why this happens every 24 hours and how to fix it,
I have a new Compaq Presario M2105US with XP sp2.My network includes 2 iBooks with airport cards, the Compaq Presario and a Desktop Mac with enthernet connection to my Linksys WRT54G v.3 wireless router. I've got TimeWarner broadband.I can easily connect to the Internet through the Linksys router with all computers. However the Compaq will eventually lose the connection to the Internet (though not to the router) after several hours of inactivity. But only after several hours (perhaps 4 hours or more, but not less than 3 hours). If I use the computer in the evening for example and take several breaks, everytime I come back to the computer and wake it from sleep, it will quickly re-establish the Internet connection. However if the computer is sleeping for hours, like overnight, and I wake it up, it appears to re-establish contact with the router because the network conneciton reports a connection with very good signal strength. But I can't access the Internet. Only by logging off and on again or by restarting can I regain internet connectivity.
My users are unable to access the internet via Internet Explorer 7.With Firefox and changes in the proxy it works good, however, unable to access with Internet Explorer.
I'm thinking maybe the user's profile has problem. However, after deleting the user's profile and have her logged in to create a new profile, it still would not work.
How come it works with Firefox but not with Internet Explorer?
I have problems setting up RD on a computer running Windows XP professional over the internet while everything works fine over lan. This is the same for VNC. On Windows 2000 computers vnc works fine I have gone through the page http://theillustratednetwork.mvps. [...] oting.html with the following results:1) Firewall is turned off (windows and other software firewalls, on my router NAT is turned on).2) In NAT on the router de ports TCP 3389 (RD) and TCP 5900 (VNC) areforwarded.3) My ISP has assigned a static IP.4) Logging Remote Desktop Connection information > only local logons asrefound (lan), remote (internet) logons are not found in the log. 5) Port reporter >
im on a Dell laptop with windows XP with sp2..My internet was going fine and then all of the sudden it stopped working. If i restart it works for one or two IE pages but is really slow. AIM works but is also really slow. But I can use both fine on Safe mode with networking. Any thoughts? I'm assuming its some sort of process messing it up.
I have a 3Com 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet Adapter card. XP Pro recognized the card and installed it automatically. The device is working properly. My cable modem Data light constantly blinks when there is a connection. The NIC acknowledges this and blinks with it (just as my other NIC did). I still cannot connect to the internet.
I am good with computers for the most part when it comes to PC troubleshooting, but I have very limited experience with network troubleshooting. I am assuming that there are settings somewhere that I need to manually change. Somebody at school said I had to do something with the registry. I would prefer to stay away from the registry if there is another option available.
I updated the site and now when I open Firefox it's just a blank page. No errors are displayed. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it's still the same. The Internet Exlporer works but I rather use Firefox.
i was playing guild wars and my system froze--no bsod or anything like that, everything froze and the computer restarted by itself. after i logged in to windows xp, it told me system recovered from a serious error. i went to event viewer, and found two errors around the time of the crash.
I'm on XP.Internet explorer only works in safe mode.In regular mode, it keeps saying waiting for http:, then it will take 45secs to 1 min before it connects. After 5 mins, I lose connection anything online. In safe mode, I stay connected forever, and internet explorer works.
I'm running XP Home Edition. A few days back I contracted one of those viruses that hi-jacks IE, but I was able to catch it before it completely installed. I used Malwarebytes, AVG and SuperAntiVirus to get rid of it and (after several scans) I'm now pretty certain that my system is 100% clean.Nevertheless, under the one user account that was infected AND in Admin (Safe Mode), programs like IE, Firefox, and Rhapsody can no longer find an Internet connection. Also Malwarebytes and SuperAntiVirus can't find their respective update servers. However, Bittorrent and Outlook still work fine and I can still ping IPs and Web addresses from the command window. The other odd thing is that one user account (on the same computer and that does not have Admin privileges) is still working perfectly.
I have tried everything to find out what is blocking my internet connection from working in regular mode for more than 30 seconds. My internet connection works just fine when i boot in Safe mode with networking and thats it. Can you please help me find what is blocking my internet connection on my computer!
I have a hp windows xp model number a705w and a problem arose with my internet. Whenever i open up any web browser (IE, Firefox, Safari) it won't let me!!! When i run the diagnostics for IE it says there is a problem with my HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP ports (error 12029). I do not have any firewalls besides the normal windows one and sometimes I have gone as far as to turn that off too but that doesn't work either. The wierd thing is that all the web browsers work in safe mode with networking but not in the normal mode so my ISP says there is aproblem my computer.. any ideas what it is or how to fix it?
I am at a friends house and one of their computers are not connecting to the internet, they have a network set up and all tha good stuff and its working fine on allt he other computers BUT hers. She recently moved her desktop from the floor to her desk to get it away from the pet hair, and i made sure the wires are all in good condition and plugged in correctly. The computer will not repair the connection nor will the internet work.
I have a HP Media Center Desktop PC with Windows XP SP2. I had no problem using my Screen Saver or Standby Mode when I had dial-up internet service. I decided to go with Starband Satellite Internet Service and I have had problems ever since. My PC goes into Standby Mode with no problem but will not stay, after a time my monitor and PC come back on, at times my Screen Saver fails to come on. I have checked my power settings and reset them, they are the same as they were before. The modem is always on but if I unplug the power cord Standby Mode and Screen Saver work normally. Starband says the problem is not because of their syatem. I would appreciate help to correct this issue.
In 'tools/internet options' I am missing the section for deleting cookies and files.I only have the security options of'security/privacy/content/ connections /advanced'I dont know how or why this happened as I used to delete my temp files daily. I now have to get to them through 'my computer' and delete them all manually. My keyboard delete button is getting a work-out.
A friend of mine in a craft site created a document in WORKS. There were problems for others on that site opening it that have WORD and not WORKS. Is it necassay to have WORKS to receive WORKS files??
after being online for about 2-2and a half hours my comp slows way down to the point of not being able to much of anything. Then after I let it sit for around 20-30 minutes it clears up and does fine. Just wondering why it started doing this and what I can do to resolve this issue.
PC will auto lock every few hours. You must then unlock by pressing CTRL+ALT+DLT and then enter the Windows password. This PC is equiped with Windows XP and is part of a Network. The screen saver is not engaged.
I want to make Windows XP Pro SP2 accessible only at specific hours, for example only between 10:00h - 12:00h every day, and the rest of the day the workstation to be inaccesible (unable to login, or unable to boot, or whatever, no matter). I checked out Local Security Policy, but as far as I've understand, the related settings there are about networking only. Anyone here knows such a restrictive software, or the specific settings in Windows' own security policy, if any, or a registry tweak, or whatever?

I have an E-Machines with 512mb of ram and run Windows XP Pro. My computer seems to freeze when left on for more than 5-6 hours. I tried speaking with E-machines about this, but they just wanted me to buy a $100 extended service warranty. I have been looking at the event viewer, but the errors that pop up don't seem to correlate.
I have a hp pavilion model having windows XP home. Since few days I have problem while initial start up. I get the message PXE-E53 No Boot file name found followed by error message - No operating sysyem found. If I switch on and off several times the notebook starts normally with Windows XP. After it is on there is no problem afterwards. But I have this problem always when the notebook is switched off for some hours.
I don't know what's wrong with my computer. My computer was running slow then eventually froze up, so I unplugged it. When I plugged it back in, I used system restore and everything was working fine. The next day it started slowing down, then it froze up again. I used System Restore again to get it back to normal and I had to do this ridiculous ritual every day for the entire summer just to use my computer. When I look at the Task Manager bar, the meter is all green as if I have a lot of programs running, but I don't. The only application it says I have running is the Compaq Connections Agent, which comes on automatically when the computer start up.I've used all types of programs to fix this, like Norton Anti Virus, AVG Anti Virus, Dust Buster, Defrag, Ad-Aware, CCleaner, etc. Everything works fine at first, then about 24 hours later, the same thing happens all over again.
Hello, can someone tell me where I can get a Service Pack 1 CD mailed to me? My computer crashed and I have to re-install Service 1 and 2. I have the CD for Service Pack 2. Downloaded SP1 is about 4 hours using the Internet.
A buddy of mine just moved to the US from the UK and his computer has XP pro on it but it has a 24 hour clock rather than a 12 and I can't find a way to change it and when he goes to certain websites and attempts to DL something it shows him Euro DL sites rather than US and news web sites such CNN and FOX show UK and or Euro versions by defualt even after cookies have been cleared.

"where to get the free/cheaper software that can do they followings:
Limit the hours of using computer. Automatically computer log off after hours. Setup the days to use computer. Block specific website Stop them from playing games from the internet/computer too Stop each user from downloading as set up by Admin. And all those that Admin can do to prevent the kids from. To the online games, the bill for the internet is too high because of online playing, watching movies, surfing the web each after each.
