I have been experiencing this for the last few weeks. Whenever I press the delete button to delete a file from a folder, the windows explorer freezes and then I have to go to task manager to end this.
View 8 RepliesI use Windows XP home edition. My computer locks up every now and then, the mouse, keyboard, everything. The only way to recover it is to press the reset button. It may go for days and have no problems, then may lock up several times in one day. Than it might go for days again with no problems. It happens a lot when you are playing the windows games, but it will also do it sometimes with other programs. I have looked everywhere to try and figure it out, but I have had no luck. Do you have any ideas what might be causing this or where I can look to correct this problem?

I now have to get to them through 'my computer' and delete them all manually. My keyboard delete button is getting a work-out.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got problem with his desktop XP SP2 , when he starts the PC it boots normally till it reaches where it shows windows XP logo then the screen gets blank (i.e he can not see the login name for users). What he used to do: is press the sleep button on the wireless keyboard, then after that press the hardware switch on/off button (not the reset button) on the tower of the hard box. After pressing switch on/off button, he gets directly (pay attention to this) to the login screen where he can see the usernames for all users. He has to do this procedure every time he would like to boot the desktop

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer will not shut down. When I hit the "start" button and then select "shutdown" it goes through all of the motions, but then it reboots. It is almost as though it thinks that I am hitting the "restart" button instead of the "shutdown" button. When I followed the checklist in Windows, it suggested a restore point. I tried that but it said that I had made no changes to the computer since that restore point and therefore I could not use the restore point technique.
View 7 Replies View RelatedToday my computer went slow so i restarted it and from that point it kept doing the same thing: it starts, then the dialog where it asks u if to start normal or safe mode (but keyboard doesnt work) then after the 28sec it tries to load windows, but a blue screen is shown and then restart again. I put the reinstalation CD but when i get to the "To boot from CD press any key" i cant becouse keyboard is not working.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI started up my computer and the taskbar at the bottom is missing (start button, taskbar, and icons). The start menu comes up when I hit the Windows Button on my keyboard but the taskbar does not appear. The start menu also pops up when I hit Ctrl+esc but without the taskbar. When I open up a program a little icon is created at the bottom and I can click through those, but no taskbar. I tried to see if I could resize it from the bottom but the resize arrows don't come up.

It might work in Home Edition or other versions.If you do this, then you will get the "Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to begin" box when you turn on your computer, before it asks for your username and password. It also asks for you to press Ctrl-Alt-Del before you can unlock your computer if you lock it. This is done by default in Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003.

Last week I noticed during my computer log on when asked to press ctrl alt del to logon, when i push it the computer would freeze. I tried using different keyboards both usb and ps2 with no luck. So as a last resort I tried a system repair. The system repair will load all the way untill it asks for me to enter my cd key, as soon as i push a key to enter it, the system freezes again, However the text indicator ( | ) is still flashing.
I use this computer for my business and have sensitive data and programs within the harddrive ( and no backup ). Is there anything I can do that wont resort to a full system format?
Note: the keyboard works when navagating BIOS
My mouse and keyboard functions freezes within an hour of startup. I have a biostar u8668 pro motherboard, intel p4 1.7ghz, 512 ddr ram, cd and dvd writers and two hard drives. I am running windows xp pro with all the service packs and upgrades. I even flashed the bios with no apparent improvement. On immediate rebooting all is well for about the same time before it freezes again. What am I overlooking?

View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I was half way through burning an ISO file to disc using [program name deleted my mod.] (have used this many times previously without a problem), when the computer froze. Nothing worked (mouse, keyboard) and the only thing I could do was turn it off at the power button. I left it for 10 minutes, started the computer up again and the (black) screen came up giving 'you need to reboot' and 'insert a bootable disc' messages. I inserted my Windows XP disc as it's the only one I have and don't have a bootable disc, and after while I was given 3 options - one was to repair, one was to escape and I can't remember what the 3rd one was. Anyway I pressed repair and after a minute or two it said it couldn't find the hard drive (or disc) so it was unable to repair and the only thing I could do was quit. After leaving the computer off for a period of time, I switched it back on and it came up with the disc scan screen details and went through the process quickly and it said one of the sectors had been repaired and it was 'back to normal' after that.
The computer is 4 years old (Intel Pentium 4/3.2gHz/1GB RAM/Hard Drive 149GB) and I've had intermittent problems with the CPU overheating due to dust etc which I've cleaned out from time to time (as you do) and all has been well.So, in total this has happened 3 times in 24 hours but on the other two occasions when it froze, after turning it off and leaving it for a couple of minutes, it came back again as normal. The computer seems OK when it's not under load (using the internet/emails/typing documents/photo editing) but the first time you ask it a big question (e.g. copy or convert a disc) it will freeze. Is this a CPU, hard drive or motherboard problem or any other ideas please.
i am running hp pavillion t550 with penthium 4, 512 ram, 80gigs hd. i have scanned it with pestparol and microsoft antispyware, scanned it with norton av many times and came out clean. done the error nuker too. i got about 70 percent space on my hard disc and at most times just using 260 on my ram.my pc just freezes up , randomly. it could happen after 15 mins. after loading or within 3 hrs. the cursor stays in one spot. no reaction from the mouse and keyboard.

View 7 Replies View RelatedIts a Laptop - C2D T5780,2GB RAM, 320GB HDD Windows XP SP2 Avira Antivirus says everything is fine, so its not viruses.The problem is that windows xp hangs after booting up to the welcome screen where i select the user and key in the password.It happens fairly regularly, like once every 5-6 times i boot up the system. By hang i mean that it doesn't take keyboard input, i can move the mouse cursor around but clicks don't have any effect. The HDD activity LED keeps blinking fairly regularly. View 7 Replies View Relatedwell i have read a lot about this problem but im dont think i really found a solution so i thought i would make a new thread. Well i was just on my computer using p2p file sharing program. and then my computer froze. first the program itself and then the whole computer just froze. So i held down the power button until it turned off and then i turned it back on and then i received this error. Disk boot failure. insert system disk and press enter.
I have my stuff backed up, i used it as a secondary and i backed up the things i needed, so i dont really care that much if i need to format. The funny thing though is that it actually froze once on my brothers computer when i was transferring files and when i restarted it wouldnt boot up and when i took out my hard drive my brothers computer booted up perfectly and after it booted up perfectly i shutted it back down and then i attached my hard drive as a slave again and then it booted up.
In response to this I attempted to use System Restore. This failed, for some reason after selecting the restore date, clicking next did nothing. I then decided to go on a deleting spree, removing all unnecessary folders, programs etc. Somewhere along the line I must not have been paying attention and deleted the i386 folder. Of course, all hell broke loose and I couldnt even log into any users be it safe mode or not (I got automatically logged out).
Now to the real problem: The setup gets to 34 minutes remaining and encounters some problems while installing devices. A number of pop up messages appear, After that last pop-up, the keyboard and mouse promptly freeze, and a final pop-up appears replacing the italics line with "Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc Modem". Unfortunately I now cant click yes or no, and therefore cant continue with the setup.
Each morning when my comp is switched on it asks me to press F1 to continue. When internet explorer opens, the calender has gone back to December 2001.It won't let me do anything till.I we have put the current date, month year and time. Once this is done it works fine.

error, tried that same thing so I shut down and when I turned back on it booted fine. I have since moved... just set up the system and am getting the same error except this time shutdown/restart isn't working ( The OTHER problem I realize is this... this is a tempory move! Most everything I own is in a storage unit, boxes to the back, furniture to the front and guess where my disks are? Right! I put printer, shredder, disks, everything I didn't just HAVE to have in the storage unit.
I click the green 'play all arrow' on the left of windows explorer when I'm in a music folder, it doesnt do anything.

It gets really annoying because in some instances I will have to hit the back button several times for the previous page to load
I attempt to start search from the start button explorer hangs. when i open task manager it shows explorer is using up all of the cup time and the only thing i can do is end the task and restart. Whenever i start a search from within a window it works perfectly.
