when i start windows all that comes up on the screan is the wallpaper and not icons or taskbar the only way that i was able to get to firefox is to press ctrl+alt+del and statring firefox.exe

When I start up, I get a black screen with this: Disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart So I do. Same thing happens. I don't have any CDs or anything in the drive. The computer had also been shutting down randomly on me prior to this.

error, tried that same thing so I shut down and when I turned back on it booted fine. I have since moved... just set up the system and am getting the same error except this time shutdown/restart isn't working ( The OTHER problem I realize is this... this is a tempory move! Most everything I own is in a storage unit, boxes to the back, furniture to the front and guess where my disks are? Right! I put printer, shredder, disks, everything I didn't just HAVE to have in the storage unit.
Press Control and Backspace to delete the whole word instead of a single letter.

They are in the program files section in windows explorer in folders labled Adobe(2) and Adobe(3). And there are two files in each folder that I can't delete.I've tried several methods starting with simply deleting the files from windows explorer.That didn't work, so I uninstalled all the Adobe programs I had (Adobe reader and Flash player). Then I tried to delete the files from windows explorer again with no Adobe programs installed.

My problem is that all of a sudden my Windows hangs up and when I try to soft boot it ctrl+alt+del then it doesnt work imfact no key works, everytime I hard boot it (Reset). View 1 Replies View RelatedJust the other day I started to be unable to access my IBM thinkpad laptop T60, because it freezes after i press the security control alt delete at login for Windows XP, the one you have to get through before typing in your password. The keyboard works fine until that point, because i have an encryption password/username point to get through before startup, and everything is O.K. However, after I get to CTRL-ALT-DLT, the computer stops recognizing anything even the mouse stops moving. The only thing I can do at this point is to force quit the mouse mysteriously is moveable when it starts shutting down again.

The mouse moves, but nothing on the screen can be clicked. Also, control alt delete works as well, so I have found that if I go into the applications tab and open a new task and open/refresh "explorer" everything will start working again.

Whenever I boot up the PC, 3 sessions of MS Word open - 2 sessions have a new (blank) document open, and the 3rd session just shows Word as being open (no new document).I went to Documents and Settings | Application Data | Microsoft | Word | Startup to see if there was anything in the folder prompting Word to open the 3 sessions. The folder was empty. I then clicked Start | Run | msconfig | Enter to see if Winword.exe is in the Startup folder. I thought I might see it in there 3 times – one for each of the Word sessions that are opening whenever I boot up the PC. Strangely enough, Winword.exe wasn’t in the Startup folder at all – not even once.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor about 2 months my computer (Sony VAIO desktop, Pentium IV 1.39 mHz, 512mb RAM, Windows XP Pro, SP2) has been acting strange. I have checked the system for viruses and spyware with AVG and Symmantec and others- with no luck. I also did a Windows repair; it only got worse. I also used reg scrub.First, when starting up it gets hung up at "Windows starting up..." taking about 3 minutes to finally get to the user selection page. Once I login, it takes another 2minutes to fully open up. At that point, my mouse has a constant flicker and takes forever to open up IE (6.0). If I leave the computer for awhile, when I come back and move my mouse to wake it up- it has some new problems: I cannot type in numbers (num lock has no effect), when I type letters, they are in all caps (caps lock off), and when I go to my desktop to select a program to start, it highlights all of the icons and says basically "do you really want to start 38 programs at once".

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo i was trying to make some room on y C drive and i guess i deleted some files that i shouldn't To make a long story short now my volume control thingy that stays on my taskbar has dissapeared.When i go to the control panel and to sounds and audio devices and i get in there and there is an icon with the option to place volume icon on the taskbar but when i click on that i get 'windows cannot display the volume control on the task bar because the volume control program has not been installed. After several tries i figured i deleted the windows file soundvol32.exe but how the hell do i get it back and put it in its right place?I have no idea where it would go? Anybody have an idea how i can install that back? I tried using my windows cd but since i put service pack 2 on it it said that the version of windows i had on the cd was older than my current version.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer had a problem when it would turn on and turn off randomly, or it would start and shut off automatically. I took it to the repair shop and told me it could be power supply. They had the power supply changed and now every time it turns on I get a "Press a Key to Reboot", and even when I press a key it would still go back to that message. They told me the solution would be to reformat the computer, but important files and programs are on there and there is no back up so I can't have it formatted. Anyone has any solution to this? The computer was fine before, it just wouldn't start up sometimes but when it does it runs smoothly
