Jun 22, 2005something went wrong and when i push ctrl/alt/delete it will not open the usual control panel it opens a cpu monitor?

Lost Display Control Function Win
May 20, 2005How do I access my display control function. The folder is now missing from the control panel. Additionally I tried right mouse click to customize desktop and it no longer works. Also I noticed the add/remove programs folder is also missing from the control panel.I would like to change the display for a new monitor. Thank you in advance for any assistance.I just noticed the system file ismissing as well. Also I cannot right click the properties tab on my computer doesnt work.

Add And Remove Programs Function Not Working In Control Panel
Mar 20, 2007I use Windows XP Media Edition and yesterday the Add/Remove Programs function on my control panel quit working. The message comes up please wait while the list is being populated and then nothing else happens. The longest I waited was 45 minutes while I went off and did something else. The list never appeared. All of the other functions in the control panel seem to be working.Everything seems to have slowed down on my computer. It is a Pentium(R) CPU 3.60 GHz 2 GB of RAM Service Pack 2 Version 2002 I bought it at Frys Electronics. Does anyone have any suggestions for the Add/Remove Programs glitch? Am I about to lose a hard drive?

Sep 28, 2008would any one know how i can restore the SEARCH function on my pc? i think my problem started when i uninstalled software, even though the uninstall went smoothly and without any obvious problems. whenever i click on START/SEARCH i get a message stating: "a file required to run SEARCH COMPANION cannot be found. you may need to run setup". i get the same error message when trying to search inside a folder.i'm running XP, and only have a recovery cd for WINDOWS, so if part of the remedy requires the full WINDOWS OS software, i'm out of luck.

Jul 16, 2008It has been some time now the find button on the start list has disappeared...The search option in the folder view of the windows explorer disappeared too and the F3 key has no effect whatsoever (except when I use it inside Firefox.then it starts the firefox page search feature).This "may" have happened some time ago when I tried the "Windows desktop search" program that I didn't like and uninstalled later?)Anyway here I am using Google desktop which is too memory hungry (its database occupies 4GB on my C drive).I tried googling the internet and found 2 or 3 solutions that failed with me .Is there a solution?

Sep 15, 2007I have spent 14 hours trying to get this mess off my computer and get my life back.This warning screen popped up as you know after I got blasted by a porn page and had shut my computer completely off and rebooted.I did not download the spyware offered but something still got in.Lost the control panel and had restricted access to certain things.After many hours went into control panel through another user and was able to do a few things.I found a site that had a control panel fix and did get that restored on main user but everything is slow and not running right.I have also run Xoftspy, prevx, spybot,and spyhunter.I have run Norton none of which has solved the problem.

Avg free version healed most of what it could find which was about 3 threats: autorun.exe, printer.exe and one other.Further scans are revealing nothing now and i've lost all my admin abilities. Jun 4, 2010Just the other day I started to be unable to access my IBM thinkpad laptop T60, because it freezes after i press the security control alt delete at login for Windows XP, the one you have to get through before typing in your password. The keyboard works fine until that point, because i have an encryption password/username point to get through before startup, and everything is O.K. However, after I get to CTRL-ALT-DLT, the computer stops recognizing anything even the mouse stops moving. The only thing I can do at this point is to force quit the mouse mysteriously is moveable when it starts shutting down again.

The mouse moves, but nothing on the screen can be clicked. Also, control alt delete works as well, so I have found that if I go into the applications tab and open a new task and open/refresh "explorer" everything will start working again.

error, tried that same thing so I shut down and when I turned back on it booted fine. I have since moved... just set up the system and am getting the same error except this time shutdown/restart isn't working ( The OTHER problem I realize is this... this is a tempory move! Most everything I own is in a storage unit, boxes to the back, furniture to the front and guess where my disks are? Right! I put printer, shredder, disks, everything I didn't just HAVE to have in the storage unit.

Sep 1, 2005I want a single desktop click to enable/disable windows XP taskbar auto hide.I can do this if I write a script for the AutoHotkey macro tool to open the relevant dialog box and then check or uncheck the appropriate check box.I'd like to open the dialog box with a command line from AutoHotkey, or a similar operation. Right-clicking the taskbar even in the program is uncool.The catch is, I can execute any CP dialog EXCEPT this one as a command line, either passing a dialog parameter to Control.exe or else using a *.cpl file name with Control.exe or directly. But I can't find "Taskbar and Start Menu".
