View 2 RepliesI have searched to see if this was asked before without any success. Maybe someone has run into this problem before. When I open "my computer" or "control panel" after I close it...it automatically goes into Internet Explorer as a blank page. Most of the time, when I close the IE blank page.it stops responding and I have the control-alt-delete to "end the program"
View 3 Replies View RelatedSometime today, the listing under "My Computer" in Windows Explorer has changed from listing only drive (floppy A, hard drive C, and CD-RW E), shared files, and Liz's documents to listing "Control Panel" with the other items. I did not do anything that I'm aware of to put it there, and the checkbox under Tools, Folder Options, View for "display Control Panel under My Computer" is NOT checked. I have tried checking and unchecking it, rebooting, using GoBack to go back to the settings in effect when I booted the computer this morning, to no avail.

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.
But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".
I haven't fully rebooted in a week or so, mostly hiberating and that works just fine. I rebooted just today and encountered a blue screen of death indicating something about: "BOOT VOLUME UNMOUNTABLE" For the past 6 hours I've been reading all about this and the related problem: "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." Apparently my disk got corrupted somehow.
It's apparently not as simple as BOOT.INI being bad as is said to be a common problem. My problem seems very severe in the following way: I actually have another Windows XP installation on the same computer. It still works fine as does linux. However, if I try to access the other partition/drive (called e: in the other windows) then I get: "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
i was on my computer just doing nothing when suddenly i got the blue screen of death! i have not recently installed any hardware OR software, to my knowledge ...and now windows will not let me in - same blue screen every time. does anyone know what this is, and how i can possibly fix it on my own without having to pay a ton of money i don't have for a tech to come to me? a phone tech suggested it might be a spyware issue. if you think so, can you possibly recommend a program that i can buy on CD and is bootable (that i can run while booting up, since that is where the problem is occurring)?

The machine restarted ok and was able to login back in ok.However.. the client has now lost all user data within his users profile - mainly under My Documents, Outlook data files and outlook address book.I have looked all over his machine and these files do not exist anywhere now.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was having trouble with my user account in XP, so I created a new one. I deleted the old one, and a window popped up that gave me the option to save all of that user's files to a desktop folder (named after the deleted user account) on the new user account' Desktop, so I chose that option. The file never appeared and now I can't find any of the files!! I've searched for specific file names and I haven't come up with anything.

I have tried to use Audio Audicity to record as well, but I get an error message there also, so something is really screwing everything up for me.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer (Toshiba notepad laptop) has recently started making a "ding" noise and it isn't correlated to any action I am taking (ie opening a new window, clicking my mouse, or any specific program). It happens at completely odd frequencies with no apparent cause. I've turned my sound scheme to "No Sounds". I've done a search for spyware (nothing unusual). I've uninstalled any programs that were recently installed (it's still there). I've searched for all .wav files on my computer's c: drive and can't even find the sound that I'm hearing when I play all of the files. Nothing matches it.
