i want make a dvd disk for my compaq recovery, but it always shows "this is not a blank disk, please insert a blank dvd?". wut should i do to get a recovery dvd? (i have updated my drive, but nothing useful. i have tested my burner with nero, it works fine.)

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario SR1930NX, it previously belonged to my brother and when I recieved it it was a virus addled mess. Luckily, or so I thought, it had a recovery partition. The problem was I did not know how to use it.

Armed with this knowledge I went back to my computer and started it up. I tried both F10 and F11, I can't remember which but one did nothing and the other sent me to the standard BIOS menu that I could reach by hitting Esc. Is there some kind of BIOS update I need to run to fix this? Or am I just hosed and have to shell out money to try and get a recovery disc?

Having read various forums it seems there should be an option in my 'Start > All Programs' menu to begin a system recovery program. Within this program there should be an option to create a set of Recovery Discs from which I could do the reformat.
I can't find this option anywhere on the computer and would prefer not to fork out �31 to HP if I can create the discs myself! Can someone please tell me how to find the Recovery Disc Creator?
I have Roxio Easy CD Creator but can't burn MP3s to a CD. The Roxio Drag and Drop always has the CD drive locked. I get an error in Easy Cd Creator about this. I can't find any way to turn off Drag and Drop.

I am not able to access anything on my computer except for when i'm in Safe mode. So I tried system restore and rolled back it back to previous checkpoints. It worked for a while, and that was it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI changed an IDE controller and need to reactivate Win XP Pro. When I slect the activation wizard, the screen comes up with the title bar and background but not foreground data or choices show, just the blank activation-window background.
For some reason, 1 of my DVD's has become, erm.. strange. There are files on it, but Windows (XPHome SPII, automatic updates) states it's empty. All the other DVD's work fine. This was one of the first DVD's I burned on this machine, round about the time SPII came out.

View 8 Replies View RelatedRecently, my computer had been running rather different than normal, and I felt that something disastrous was going to happen soon, but I took the stupid route of simply doing nothing and excusing my hunch as nothing more than the computer being old. Pompeii 2 decided to take place on my computer. My "hunch" was very correct, as yesterday, multiple trojan downloaders showed their ugly faces, and placed nearly every virus known to man on my desktop. I then proceeded to but windows in safe mode, unplug the ethernet cable, and run Trojan Remover with the latest updates. Well Trojan Remover did quite a little number on my comp, disabled svchost's from running, and made it impossible for me to connect to the internet. After rebooting again, Windows was unable to boot and a box popped up stating that lsass.exe could not be found. I then booted into Compaq System Recovery and performed a "Safe" recovery that doesn't delete data but restores everything else.

I tried connecting a new HP printer to my Compaq Presario 6400NX. After several sessions with HP tech support they decided the problem was with the OS and we tried to recover XP from the boot partition or from the hard drive. That failed so HP sent me the 5 CD recovery set and I tried recovering the system. During the recovery process several different messages popped up including, missing files, files that could not be recovered and cannot open database. During another session with HP tech support we erased the hard drive and tried again. They decided the CDs that they sent were defective so they sent me another set. Again I tried to do the recovery and I once again got the same "error" messages and eventually the recovery failed after the system rebooted. After several hours it gives an error message that the recovery failed.

But When I go to use it now it just ignores my pressing. Im kinda getting pissed since no recovery CDs. It is Windows XP Home Edition says on sticker. Is it possible to boot the D: drive (The recovery partition) with command prompt. Or am I screwed since it just ignores me pressing f10.

For reasons unknown this time the screen was completely blank when it finished. It is as if im looking at a turned off monitor, no signs of any activity what so ever, just a black blank screen. I do not have any type of recovery disc to this computer at this time , though if i get it back up and running that will be the first thing i do. I really dont know what other information I can give about it. The computer is on , the monitor is on but it looks as if it is off.

Everything seemed to go fine until she switched the machine on the next day, when it failed during the boot. She's reasonably tech competent so by the time she called me she'd tried all the safe mode options with no luck: it would get up to mup.sys in the boot and then reset. I did try to access the HP Recovery software, but it just comes up with a pale blue blank screen and a windows-style pointer and stops there.
