Computer Won't Boot: Bad Pool Call Error, Ps2 Keyboard Won't Work
Mar 3, 2008
When I try to boot my computer reaches the windows screen then restarts, and keeps repeating this. Sometimes it throws up a bad pool caller error and a bsod. It gives me a Stop code: 0xc2 (0x43, 0xc3af4000, 0x0, 0x0) Additionally my keyboard no longer works, at least during startup which is all I can access. True for both USB and ps2 keyboard. The numlock light can be turned on but that's about it. So I know the connection is working but the boards still don't work, which means I've been unable to get to safe mode or into bios settings.

Ok, here is the situation, I want to know is there a way to repair or reinstall windows like this http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...l-windows.html Instead of booting with a XP Installation CD just putting in the cd and installing? Would a upgrade work? I use NTFS... The reason why I want to not boot with the CD is because I keep getting Verifying DMI Pool Data but instead of it sitting there forever like that, like most people, it shows the options like boot with safe mode or normal or safe mode with command prompt.

Windows XP Pro Problem began today.farlier today, the PC had booted to a disk reading error, using HDD #1, see below.I put in HDD #2 & life was good. When I had a chance to work on the problem [ disk reading error ] the BSOD & "bad_pool_data" error appeared.0x000000C2 [ 0x00000043, 0xDAE3E000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 ]I have read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314492/EN-US/ .The solution described is "Greek to me".The same problem appeared on HDD #2, so I thought I had bad ram.
I tested the ram; swapped it out AND ran diags.

Hello, I am new to this website, and need some serious help. I have a Gateway GT 5028 that is about a year a half old. I came home today to turn it on, and the only thing that happens is the fans both work, the cd drive lights come on, the power button light comes on, and the orange cpu light comes on. After a few seconds the cd lights flash again, and they repeat this process. The screen, keyboard, and mouse do not work. The monitor stays black the whole time. It has windows xp on it. I got it at Best buy, but it is out of warranty. It seems as if the computer continually restarts?

I'm currently on my room mates computer. I have XP SP2 installed on my computer. I installed a new driver for my monitor today. I rebooted and after the bios and everything loaded like normal, instead of getting the windows XP startup screen I got this: "Windows could not start because file is missing or corrupt
system32configsystem" Now for problem #2...when I start the recovery console off the XP cd...or even try to REINSTALL XP I get the following BSOD:so I can't run the recovery console, and I can't reinstall windows and I can't START windows.

About ten days ago my Acer Aspire E360 (AMD 64 X2 3800, 2gb - Win Media Center 2005) started giving BSOD errors at startup. It would to into safe mode but no trouble shooting worked. Finally it wouldn't boot at all giving me the: NTLDR missing error. I downloaded the ISO that 'fixes' this error and it didn't work, saying that hal.dll was missing. My recovery disks - 6 in all - are available but when I booted from them they said that it would erase the entire C drive. In the meantime I downloaded ISOs to test the disk and the memory. Disk was fine, but there was one very bad memory stick, which I've replaced.
I don't want to lose the C: data. I did do an Acronis 10 backup just before it went totally down, but I'm not sure that the bad memory stick didn't corrupt data that's now backed up. A friend gave me a copy of a WinXP Pro (without serial number) to see if I could use the repair function. However, he only copied the files and did not clone the disk so it's not bootable. Using another computer I used Nero (Caldera DOS) to make a bootable disk. Unfortunately when I tried to boot up with it I got a warning: "EMM386 - address line A20 already enabled." and then it froze.

I sometimes get the "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press Enter" error message when booting, but if I unplug my Logitech PS2 keyboard it boots up as if nothing was ever wrong. I can then usually plug the keyboard in as I reboot the PC and it works fine. But there is obviously something wrong here! It's as if the fact that the keyboard is attached to the PC makes the PC think that there is no hard disk in the PC.
There are no flags in Device Manager and everything is identified correctly

I think ive got a keylogger, so I am reinstalling XP. (I am very paranoid, I can't stand it) My Windows XP cd was very scratched, so I made a back-up, then threw it away (saved serial and stuff). First problem: when trying to burn the iso that I created from the original disk, when I am done burning with CDBurnerXP it crashes. Then, for the big boy. When I restart my computer, boot from CD, the installation loads all drivers and stuff, but my keyboard won't work so I can't continue with the installation.

I got a new graphics card today. So I went to Add/Remove programs, and removed the Nvidia driver. I rebooted the PC as requested. After rebooting PC (keeping the same graphics card in) the black Windows logo screen took much longer than usual. Then when it finished so that I could click on my profile, I couldn't, the mouse nor the keyboard are functioning. I tried a different mouse and keyboard. I unplugged my computer and restarted, I tried in safe mode and the same thing. The keyboard works at the BIOS screen because I can get into the BIOS and select safemode as needed.

When I start up my computer it will not respond to anything that has to do with my keyboard and mouse. I couldn't figure out why, I mean they came with my computer. The mouse is not even optical and it has a cord. I tried booting into safemode but since the keyboard doesn't work I couldn't. I tried booting from a disk but I have to be able to press any key to be able to do that. I couldn't log onto the accounts because that requires both a mouse and a keyboard. I tried using a different and keyboard that plug into the same ports, which resulted in the same thing. So I used a keyboard for a playstation 2 because it uses USB and I used a mouse I found that hooks up to USB as well. They work fine. However, I want the PS/2 ports to work because I better things to be taking up my usb ports.

A friend of mine has been given a computer without a keyboard. It works fine except WinXP doesn't find a keyboard when a normal PS/2 keyboard is connected. The keyboard is working fine when running DOS or BIOS setup. I tried reinstalling WinXP but the keyboard doesn't work after booting the XP cdrom. Now the computer says "Restarting XP installation" after booting from the hdd. But it doesn't complete the installation without an usable keyboard.

My computer wasn't recognizing my CD-RW drive, so I opened up 'regedit' to delete the upper and lower filters from the drive. Well, I deleted the wrong filters. The next time Windows loaded up, it failed to recognize the mouse and the keyboard (!!!). So I basically have a paralyzed computer - I can't do anything with it. I know that reinstalling Windows would solve the problem, but I'm looking for a way to take care of this without losing all of my files. I know it's possible .

I have a Win XP SP2 desktop. I lost use of the optical drives a while ago (both the factory DVDROM and a DVD Burner that I installed). When I tried to turn it on, I found that my keyboard (which worked before) does not work on my login screen (I have password protection on the alt logon...the one with just the username and a password box I booted into Ubuntu from a Live CD (I can do anything before Windows loads). Everything worked fine.

I have a AMD Athlon XP Processor. After noticing that the speed wasnt preforming right - i.e. 1.25 GHZ instead of 2.25GHZ i went into the Bios on a MSI motherboad and went to CPU Speed and it was set as 100MHZ but i put it it up 200 thinking it was that or it could of been the CPU Frequency as 100MHZ and i put that up to 200MHZ. After doing that it rebooted with a black screen nothing comming up. I inserted a floppy disc to see if it was booting up as i would be able to tell to see if it accesses it - but no. What has happened - is there anyway of doing anything, as the keyboard doesnt work either as i would of been able to change it in the Bios.

I've tried a lot of things including:
Reinstall windows- didn't work
Reset the CMOS- Didn't work, but this time it says Verifying DMI Pool Data......Update Success then nothing.
Tried only one ram stick (I have 4 gigs)- got the update success thing again
Checked boot settings and checked drive settings- everything was right.

I had had 2 operating system on 2 hard drives (XP and Vista) I took vista off and replaced it with media center. I could boot both xp and media center but the vista boot screen always shows up and would have to go into "ealier versions of windows" and choose my OS from there. I read somewhere to get rid of the vista boot screen I should delete "bootmgr" file and "boot" folder from the root of C: I did this and now nothing works. It tries to boot into vista boot screen but it says files are missing and resets

I learned here that it might be a keyboard issue, replaced it with one known to be good and it didn't work. After some more fumbling around looking for a solution, I unplugged the HDD and plugged in the other HDD I have on the system with a separate installation of Win XP Pro and got the exact same error, even though I know for a fact it was working the last time I had it plugged in and it has not been plugged in since then.
