When i try to install a game before i can complete my installation i receive this error message:"error number: 0x800040707, Dll function call crashed: chkreqs.setup window". I think its something to do with the dll files windows uses. Does anyone know what i need to do to fix this problem?
View 8 RepliesWindows XP. I'm on a laptop running XP, with a monitor designed for 1920x1200. I use a Geforce Go 6800 graphics card. Recently whilst playing a game (Football Manager 2007 if it matters?!) the game crashed, and it went to desktop. The icons/etc on the desktop were noticeably enlarged. I did an online test and found my resolution had swapped to 1536x960. checking display, properties, settings, or whatever it is, it still says i'm in 1920x1200. I've had this problem before, the last time I had it, I uninstalled my windows monitor driver and it automatically fixed it. I've done this several times, and uninstalled/reinstalled the nvidia geforce drivers (from my dell CD) once or twice as well and it hasnt fixed it at all.

I tested the ram; swapped it out AND ran diags.
When I try to boot my computer reaches the windows screen then restarts, and keeps repeating this. Sometimes it throws up a bad pool caller error and a bsod. It gives me a Stop code: 0xc2 (0x43, 0xc3af4000, 0x0, 0x0) Additionally my keyboard no longer works, at least during startup which is all I can access. True for both USB and ps2 keyboard. The numlock light can be turned on but that's about it. So I know the connection is working but the boards still don't work, which means I've been unable to get to safe mode or into bios settings.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install Win XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 on my old puter. It's really slow and old like 10 years old. I am planning on fixing it up. I tried to install XP, and after it copied the files (which took forever) it went on to the install step. Every time, it gets stuck on a "fatal" error that says "Incorrect Function." Then I can look at some kind of log with a bunch of files and words I never heard of.
After I click ok, it restarts and does the same thing over and over, until I turn it off. I tried to take out the CD, and it starts loading, then says I am missing files. It seems like there is nothing I can do. I contacted Microsoft, and they won't help me unless I give them 35 dollars. I'm a 15 year old kid and I don't really have much money.
When I go to start up my Windows XP, where there should be a welcome screen it reads:Unable to Locate Component This application has failed to start becayse SHLWAPI.dll was not found. Re installing the application may fix the problem.

I followed Dells instructions to Hold down Control and then hit F11 and then release both at the same time to get to the restore screen. Well it never came up and I got to the Safe Mode Last Known Good Configuration screen instead. I kept trying and nothing would change, so I picked Safe Mode. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a vaio PCG - 9G5M which has an internal CD reader - i wanted to record DVDs so i brought an external DVD writer - this did not come with any software but the shop gave me Nero version 7.I tried using this but try as i might it wouldnt work - then suddenly the computer stopped recognising the external AND internal disc drives - on the hard ware manager it states that the drivers for these devices are either misisng or corrupt - error message number 39.

However after running registry cleaner I found out I'm unable to scan, copy on printer. I did the restart as told and it did come back but then it happened a third time and upon the restart the computer will not come back on. Or let me explain further...the actual computer will turn on when I push the button, but no picture or desk top or anything will come on on the monitor. I tried another monitor to rule that out and still nothing. I also was told to try restarting in safe mode but still get nothing coming up loading on monitor just a black black monitor screen. It sounds fine the rest of the time, including restarts and even reboots from off if the PC hasn't been switched off very long. Yet no major problems flagged in HDDLife or Event Manager. Then a couple of months ago my PC fell rather uniquely ill. Not only was there increased thrashing in explorer.exe, but direct-accessing drives and folders (either double-clicking or choosing the FIRST option in the right-click menu, regardless of what it was) caused an instant CTD as explorer crashed with an odd error message.

It mentions on the screen something about BIOS memory. Looking through some other posts, I have seen mention of a correlation between this screen and BIOS. does anyone think that this BIOS memory thing is in fact the problem? How do I resolve anything that deals with this BIOS memory? The help section on my computer just defines what BIOS is, it doesn't state where I can find it on my comp.
