We did back-up some of the pictures, but were missing almost a year and halfs worth including my son's birthdays and first t-ball games. Is there any way to get them back?

Apparently he got the SP2 update and then the whole thing crashed!Now on starting it is gives the F8 options (safe mode, etc) but choosing any of them results in an endless reboot. He has no Recovery Disks (floppy or CD) - a mistake I know! I'm at a loss and can't even (last resort) re-install from scratch because it was pre-loaded and have no XP CD
View 4 Replies View RelatedHave VAIO VCG RC310G. Windows XP current SP. Tried to load audo disc to Itunes. System crashed. No picture on screen (black). Tried to use F8 safe mode start without success. Have system recovery dvd. Placed in drive. Turned off machine. Turned on. No screen, just black. Hear fan and drive spinning.Checked monitor and see the Analog/Digital message on the screen, (seems to be working.) This is the limit of my knowledge. Any ideas on how to get the recovery disk to be seen by the computer? Help Juscause (I despartely need it). ps, not worried about the data on the computer, but I would like to recovery if possible.

I did the restart as told and it did come back but then it happened a third time and upon the restart the computer will not come back on. Or let me explain further...the actual computer will turn on when I push the button, but no picture or desk top or anything will come on on the monitor. I tried another monitor to rule that out and still nothing. I also was told to try restarting in safe mode but still get nothing coming up loading on monitor just a black black monitor screen. I really need to get this back up if not for anything else but to save all my lost stuff before I have to get rid of it.

It sounds fine the rest of the time, including restarts and even reboots from off if the PC hasn't been switched off very long. Yet no major problems flagged in HDDLife or Event Manager. Then a couple of months ago my PC fell rather uniquely ill. Not only was there increased thrashing in explorer.exe, but direct-accessing drives and folders (either double-clicking or choosing the FIRST option in the right-click menu, regardless of what it was) caused an instant CTD as explorer crashed with an odd error message.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been having this problem with my Dell Lattitude D505 Laptop where I put it on standby, and then about 10 seconds after taking it off standby, I get a blue error screen telling me the system crashed. It mentions on the screen something about BIOS memory. Looking through some other posts, I have seen mention of a correlation between this screen and BIOS. does anyone think that this BIOS memory thing is in fact the problem? How do I resolve anything that deals with this BIOS memory? The help section on my computer just defines what BIOS is, it doesn't state where I can find it on my comp.

I have run avast, adaware, spybot, all come up clean.Sometimes pc is unable to recover and will keep coming back to screen for selecting safe mode etc.Tried to run registry cleaner I saw on your home page. But once downloaded and tried to run this, PC crashed again. Even now I am usure how long I will get on this site before something goes down.

When I connect to The Internet, any program that I open freezes for like 10 minutes, after which it unfreezes. During this time I normally restart my computer, with no success. If I open Windows Live Messenger and Internet Explorer 7 together it freezes normally. Pinball, WordPad, Sound Recorder, and Volume Control cannot be restored. Also, I tried using my Toshiba Recovery DVD, with no success. It says Loading RAMDISK Image, then it reboots and loads the exact same system with no changes made.

I have a one year old Toshiba Qosmio specific HD, that's the only change in the system I've made. I have satellite internet and use a Linksys router for the Qosmio. I live in a VERY rural area, so I left the connection unsecured.I got a stop error "attempt was made to write to read-only memory" and the culprit per the blue screen was w29n51.sys. The exact error code is 0x000000BE.Another weird "symptom" was vertical blue lines on the windows start up screen. These weird blue lines were NOT there in safe mode.My son recently downloaded a bunch of crap on the desktop, MP3s and possibly video clips. I found a similar h/d for sale, that had bad sectors, and swapped the circuit board and the drive now works again.BUT, it does not boot, so I connected it as a second drive, and got access to basically all my files.However, any attempts to get it to boot again have not worked, so I cannot access my encrypted data files.I suspect that since only the first few tracks were damaged (?) the private encryption key is somewhere else on the drive (like the two fats, etc)is this assumption wrong? If true, is there a specific s/w package that could "rebuild" my drive, or at least pick up the second copy of this "key" and help me open the files?

Everything works fine except when I boot up and following the Sony logo and Intel logo the following message appears "Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. Acronis fatal error Boot drive (partition) not found. Press Enter to try to boot your PC." Pressing enter boots up the PC fine but how can I eliminate the process? I had Acronis on both drives before the crash but it no longer exists.

The problem is, when I launch my "Vaio PCV-RS430G" recovery disc it goes straight to Sony's proprietary recovery interface which provides ONLY the preset option to wipe my 'c' drive and reinstall Windows. According to some MS articles I've read, an XP recovery disc should allow me to access the Windows Recovery Console (by typing "R" at the welcome screen).
