Access Denied To Certain Dir When Using Recovery Console

Feb 24, 2009

My security software keeps a log of deleted/quarantined files but when I try to look at the "program files" directory where the log is kept using the recovery console disk it says "access denied". There is no admin password on the system that I know of. My command of DOS is limited, is there anyway of gaining access to the directory using the recovery console? Why is it telling me access denied when I am logged on as admin ?

Access Denied In Recovery Console

Aug 14, 2005

I have been trying to repair a malfunction in XP Home that doesn't allow me to logon to Windows. When the computer boots up it displays a screen that gives me 5 options for starting up, all of which restart the computer when selected. I have been following the procedure in the XP support article Q307545 to remedy this problem and I have made it as far as the command prompt in the recovery console. However, when I try to type in the first command 'md tmp' I receive the message 'access denied.'

Access Is Denied In Recovery Console

Jan 22, 2007

I have had a problem with the missing file windowssystem32configsystem and I have tried the fixes outlined on microsoft.com, however I am encountering a problem. When I go into the recovery area it does not ask me which version I want to use and doesn't ask me for a password. Then when I type a command it tells me 'access is denied'. I have gotten some commands to work (ie chkdsk, chkdsk /r fix, and fixboot). Also, when it wants me to type a command it has C:> before it and doesn't mention windows anywhere. I would really appreciate it if someone would help - there are a few files on the computer that I would really like to keep!

Cant Access Recovery Console Any More

Jul 14, 2005

My problem is (to cut a long story short) that I have some dodgy .dll files, messing up my computer (XP) and preventing me from installing anything (not fun when the my computer fixer guy has reinstalled windows, failed to fix it, charged me fifty quid for the privelege, and left me with next to no software on it - not even word).i bought a very informative xp troubleshooting manual yesterday, and i can see my only option is to replace the files using the windows recovery console (I cant replaced them from within windows as its always using them). However, when I try to access the recovery console (in the manner advocated by my book, windows help, and numerous internet pages), by booting up from my recovery cds, and pressing R, i get taken to system recovery, a user friendly interface displaying 3 options for reformatting the whole system, and nothing else. this is obviously not the command prompt interface for the recovery console that i was expecting to be faced with.

Pci.sys Not Found - Access Recovery Console Repair

Nov 24, 2009

It all started when I was busy typing out an essay I heard my computer making some weird noise. It's the sort of noise I hear when my computer turns off completely. I decided after hearing it enough times to turn off my computer then turn it back on after a couple of minutes.Upon turning it on it gave me a black screen saying WINDOWSDRIVERSISAPNP.SYS could not be found and to insert the Windows XP CD and to hit 'r' to access recovery console to repair it, fine. I don't have my Dell's Windows XP Media Centre Edition CD (don't even think I got one back in 05) so I got a friend to give me a pirated XP Music Edition, Pirated XP Media Centre, and I even took my cousins LEGIT Windows XP Edition.

Unmountable Boot Volume And Can't Access Recovery Console

Dec 16, 2008

I've got a Gateway laptop and it's giving me the unmountable boot volume blue screen of death at start up. I've scoured the internet and all the solutions tell me I need to use the Windows setup screen to get to the recovery console. My problem is that my computer never gets to the setup screen. I restart with the gateway XP disk and it looks like it's setting up, but then nothing happens, and I don't get any sort of screen that lets me access the recovery console. Is there any other way to get this thing working again, my finals are due the end of this week, and all my most recent/finished files are on this thing.

Unmountable Volume - Can't Launch Recovery Console Through Recovery Disc?

Sep 5, 2008

Hoping to avoid a full reinstall of Windows XP, I'd like to try some repair procedures. The problem is, when I launch my "Vaio PCV-RS430G" recovery disc it goes straight to Sony's proprietary recovery interface which provides ONLY the preset option to wipe my 'c' drive and reinstall Windows. According to some MS articles I've read, an XP recovery disc should allow me to access the Windows Recovery Console (by typing "R" at the welcome screen). Can anyone suggest how I can bypass the Sony recovery and get to the Windows Recovery Console?

My dad accidentally installed Windows XP Over the current working Windows XP Service Pack 2.THis is on an old laptop which has some important school work which I have been trying to get copied to memory stick but with no luck.My dad thought the laptop was running ever so slow and thought that reinstalling XP would make it quicker again. Now after it has done, the laptop not running well at all.It loads but when you choose ANY user account it loads up till the desktop and nothing happens after that. THe start menu and icons don't show up. Its like its got nothing else to load. My Documents Access Denied Error ?

Anyway I knew my hard drive was still good and I have important data on it that I needed, so i removed it and bought a hard drive enclosure. When I try to open it it's giving my an 'Access Denied" error. I can access all the other accounts just fine.

Access Denied Error After Using Msconfig

Jan 24, 2007

I remember seeing this posted a few weeks ago and wondered if anyone else has come across the problem or a solution. After using MSCONFIG and applying changes I get the message "An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service you may need to log on using an administrator account to make the specified changes".
I've searched high and low and can't find any real reason.. And I'm the only account on my pc. Now for a new twist.. Today when I went by to do some maintainance on a business network out of curiosity I tried MSCONFIG on the computers there and lo and behold they all did the same thing.. These computers have nothing in common with mine as far as firewalls, antivirus, etc. (which I had read might be the culprit). The only thing I know that all have in common is they have all recently have had all Windows updates installed

this morning i went to use my desktop computer, and much to my chagrin, apparently I have been denied access to all my programs and files. I suspect that it may have to do with the windows updater, because when i try and log into my user account, i get an error message mentioning registry issues. My computer was runing fine last night when I went to sleep. 'my efforts thus far'= I can run safe mode, and have done a system restore, a malware program sweep, checked user accounts and various programs; and all allow full access to the 'trouble account' according to safe mode. In short, My main account is in lockdown, my safe mode works. The majority of error messages refer to 'denied access' and upon trying to log iin a get the error message '0x80070005'. The Infamous Access Denied - Error When Installing SP2

Aug 27, 2007

I'm running XP Pro, finally updating to SP2. About halfway through I get the "Access is denied" error message. I followed Microsoft's instructions to locate the registry subkey causing the problem, however (as shown in the attached picture) the problem isn't in the usual vnd.ms.radio (infact, that file isn't mentioned at all in the setupapi file), but in the DependOnService. Problem is, it doesn't exist under the directories listed. As shown in the second uploaded picture, it's not in the SSDPSRV directory itself, and the only subdirectories are a pyramid of jibberish (none of which contain anything except a "(Default)" value).

Program files with preferences for my ggames, pretty much everything... EXCEPT My Documents for the primary user (Brian). It says access is denied to this folder, and is marked as read only. Basically, I need a way to get into that folder and get the information out of it. It has all my school/work files (most of which are backed up but some I need), and I'm not exactly sure how to go about that.
