I lost my recovery diskett to my laptop. my daughter dropped the laptop and now it is giving me a error msg at start up and i can't get it started at all. say something about disk writing error. anyway.how use the recovery diskett? but i can't find mine.

But after 2 seconds or pressing F11 or any key, another line appears saying the same thing "Press F11 to start recovery". Can't get past this point and start Windows. HD is recognized in another computer as well as in BIOS.

He isn't home right now and I don't know if it is xp home or pro but I have a pro disk, it has not got a floppy drive so can't use floppies to boot with, So can I set the BIOS to boot from the cd-rom and try the xp pro disk? and if so what do I do after it boots? or can I click on I think it is F10 when starting and see if I can get to system recovery? and if so what do I do after I get there?

View 1 Replies View RelatedEver since I removed my old internet security suite, I've been getting the same error message when my computer starts up. I've tried everything I could think of to eliminate it but have had no success.
The error message is as follows:
Windows cannot find 'C: /Program Files/Verizon/Verizon Internet Security Suite/Idx ClnR.exe.' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search.
The original problem may have had something to do with spy-bot search and destroy. A while back I denied a change made by index cleaner and made it a rule to deny that change each time it was attempted, thinking index cleaner was a malicious program.
Any ideas of how I can fix this problem.
This error message has been showing up every day when I start up my computer. I believe it started the day after I deleted all the temp/cookie files. I'm not sure where to go to fix this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I rebuilt my PC (new mobo, CPU, memory & case) evrything went fine. Moved all the hardware from my old case to the new, re-formatted the hard disk, nice clean install of Windows etc etc. Problem came when trying to install software for my USB cable modem. The software included various connection monitoring tools but I kept getting an error message that a particular file could not be found. In the end I decided to use a LAN cable, (LAN drivers came with the mobo) give the cable software a miss - no problems! However, every time Windows now starts, I keep getting the missing file error message. I checked the registry to see if there was any chance of it being a 'run once' type of file but could'nt see anything (although I'm not overly familiar with the registry).As I said this is just a nuisance - but it would be nice if there was a way to get rid of the error message permanently.

I have tried in vein to locate the problem but have had no luck. There is no obvious identifier for ther message (other than a the fact that the message appears in a Windows type box and has a small white circle with a question mark in it. I would appreciate any hints on locating the offending program so that I can eliminate the older version. Am running a P4 2.4 gig, 1gig RAM with Windows XP pro SP2 installed.

Does anyone know HOW to delete, an error box when I start up Win XP home sp2? I believe this crept into my system, from downloading MS windows screensavor/background theme for desktop, from WIN MS website. I have gone into "search", and tried to find this error in C drive, folders, programs, searhing under "MYWEBS", MWSBAR, DLL, bar, bins, etc. No luck! I think it is located in HKLMsoftware? I did the same stupid mistake over a year ago, and the cox dsl man, removed the error message. Here is the error box:

My wife has a 5 year old Toshiba laptop with an XP OS. Over the years , she has updated and downloaded the various service packs from Microsoft. Last night , while watching You Tube, my daughter noticed an error message on the screen (she's 11 years old, and she can't remember exactly what the message said). She turned the computer off properly . Now, when I try to start the computer, it goes to the "sorry for any inconvenience" page.Whichever method I choose to boot- safe mode , networking etc- it goes to the Toshiba logo screen and then goes right back to the "sorry for any convenience screen".

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy old laptop died and I now have a brand new, factory sealed Toshiba Satellite Pro, model L300. It came with trial versions of MS Office. I don't want to use the trial version since I have a perfectly good version that I porchased a few years ago. (It's the Teacher and student Edition 2003.) At first I tried installing the 2003 version that I own. It seems to go through the install procedure to the end, but when I try to open OUTLOOK, I get an error that states the MAPI32.DLL" is corrupt.
I spoke with Toshiba but they were not a great help. The told me to go the ADD?Remove and remove the MSOFFICE trial version, which I did. I also removed the 2003 Version
so that I could "start from scratch", so to speak, trying to keep things "graceful".
The same error occurs after installing the 2003 software, and oddly, some of the
2007 software still seems to be there!. Probably residing in the registry somewhere.

how to boot from CD on a Travel mate 2410 so I can install a fresh copy of Win XP, the problem is Ive changed / unchecked some of the start up settings in MS Config, re-booted and now the laptop loads with missing files such as: winlogon, dlls missing etc, then re-sets, Ive tried safemode but still show missing start-up files, F2 for (Phoenix Recovery Bios Utility) but dont know the password, tried comos, phoenix, 000000 and bios as the password but with no luck.

It's an Equium A60 as far as I can work out (similar/same as a Satellite A60?) running XP home. She can't find the recovery disk (if it even has one?) and I only have XP Pro, Can I use my XP pro the same way as I would on a normal desktop? Stick the CD in and boot from it to install a fresh OS? Is there anything I need to look out for on a laptop?
