Please re-install a copy of the above file'As I am not a techie, could somebody please instruct me what I should do step by step in order to get my PC going again? My Windows XP Home Edition will not load up, I will start my computer and straight away I notice that it takes a little bit longer to detect my secondary Master device, after about 20 or so seconds it finaly loads up to a point where it will say Windows XP did not start properly. I have selected all of the SAFE mode options, it loads lots of drivers until it gets to a file called MUP.SYS and then it hangs there and does nothing more. I have also tryed to start windows normaly and with settings that last worked both of which froze at the Windows XP loading screen.
I have inserted a Windows XP CD that I loaned from a friend and I have tryed to reinstall Windows XP via setting the CD drive to load first in the BIOS. The CD seems to load files properly untill it reads "Setup is loading Wndows" and again it hangs here and does nothing more. I have tryed everything and I have now run out of idea's, I have read other forums that have said that its to do with the Hard Drive, I have replaced mine and still no change.

When I turn my computer on, before I even type in my windows password, my computer tries to access Goggle.ca. It eventually hangs up and I can delete it and go on with sign in but man it bugs me.I am computer illiterate but have dug around enough to delete a 'taskdir.exe' malware.I have the most current version of McAfee, I have done a scan in safe mode and Mcafee is reporting no viruses.

I didnt know there was such a thing as a free forum full of clever IT people... Fabulous But I guess you find these things out when you need to Here is the short version of my problem... if a fuller version is needed, just let me know ! Ive had problems with my computer for a while and decided that it was time for a bit of a spring clean to try to get rid of some og the annoying little error messages etc. The main problem was that I couldnt install the Service Pack 2. So I tried to do the Smart Restore and then everything went down hill from there Now I cant get into Windows at all... Ive installed it, but it appears to be on the H Drive and the computer is set to start in the C drive, so when it tries to start, it tells me to install Windows, but theres not enough room on C... not because theres too much on there, but the C drive is just not large enough to have Windows on it ! When I start the computer in BIOS, Im not given the option to start in H...

I'm running XP, home edition. I've tried tweaks to improve start up time, used regedit, msconfig, turned off some automatic star-up programs, and used Registry Mechanic. When I tried to restart the computer, I'd be brought to the "Welcome" user selection screen. After selecting a user, the Desktop would load without icons or the taskbar (cursor appears), then after a few seconds, goes back to the Welcome screen. The few seconds I have in Windows, I tried bringing up the Task Manager, but it doesn't work. Also, when I click to load Disk Cleanup, nothing happens. Is there a fix for this?

the computer freezes at start-up on the blue screen that shows the Windows XP logo, and the words "Windows is starting up". I found that I can navigate
through this at startup by tapping the F8 key rapidly before that screen appears. I tried the System Restore to a date earlier than the administrator's work, but no help. Is their a repair or restore procedure that will cure this problem?

I did "F6" to install the Intel RAID driver using a floppy disk created from the motherboard support CD. The STOP message/blue screen appeared after XP loaded all the drivers. It is a clean installation on 2 new HDDs, so I assume the error is not caused by viruses. Yes, I did upgraded my BIOS to the latest version beforehand. The SATA data cables are new that came with the motherboard. Yes, I have also read and printed out MS KB324103, but I am still not sure what the problem(s) is/are Does XP Home Edition support RAID1 configuration? I read from Western Digital knowledge base answer ID 282 that "Windows XP Home Edition does not support dynamic disks." Is it true? Does it mean that I will have to buy XP Professional for RAID1 (mirrored)? Should I take out the video card and modem card before installing XP?

I've been having this problem for about three weeks now and it's really starting to get annoying Every time I start my computer, that message that comes up when your computer is unexpectedly shows and I can choose to start with either safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration or start windows normally. Every single one of these that I choose, the exact same thing happens:The Windows loading screen will come up and the boxes will go from left to right in that rectangle under the windows logo and then all of a sudden a blue screen with some text on it will flash really fast and then the computer will restart. I can't read any of the text because it restarts too fast.

I've recently been getting this weird error when i perform a full scan on my computer, using ANY anti virus scanning program(TrendMicro,OnlinePanda,AVG). It leads into a blue screen saying / A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
If this is the first time you've seen this stop screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

I have a serious problem with my laptop. I have a Windows XP Home Edition Compaq laptop and there is a message that keeps me from accessing my computer files that states the following:explorer.exe -Application Error: The instruction at "0x700000000" referenced memory at "0x700000000". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
Then when I click on either choice, the desktop goes blank and I cannot access my start menu because whenever I try to do so, the message comes up again and sometimes the drwtsn32.dll (I think that's it) pops up on the screen. I would like some help and advice to fix this problem.

But when you got to shut it down from start> shutdown>shutdown it pops up the BSOD with stop error. Haven't put in any new hardware or software, everytning is up to date. I have a desktop pc with XP Home Edition. It's an HP and it looks like there are two operating systems on it. One is the regular XP Home Edition load and the other seems to be the Recovery one if you run the Recovery utility that HP offers at boot up. I'm not sure what to do to fix this. If I try to run the recovery from HP it says that some data might be lost which I do not want. Is there any way to fix this hal.dll file using some type of utility disk? Or any other way?

I recently received a laptop that someone needs me to fix. The problem is that it seems at some point that some kind of update was interrupted during the process and the system will not load unless a windows xp professional edition disk is inserted to complete the update. I also cannot get it to start in safe mode. Unfortunately, I only have a home edition disk. Can I reformat XP pro with a home edition disk? If not, are there any other options?

Ever since I removed my old internet security suite, I've been getting the same error message when my computer starts up. I've tried everything I could think of to eliminate it but have had no success.
The error message is as follows:
Windows cannot find 'C: /Program Files/Verizon/Verizon Internet Security Suite/Idx ClnR.exe.' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search.
The original problem may have had something to do with spy-bot search and destroy. A while back I denied a change made by index cleaner and made it a rule to deny that change each time it was attempted, thinking index cleaner was a malicious program.
Any ideas of how I can fix this problem.

When I rebuilt my PC (new mobo, CPU, memory & case) evrything went fine. Moved all the hardware from my old case to the new, re-formatted the hard disk, nice clean install of Windows etc etc. Problem came when trying to install software for my USB cable modem. The software included various connection monitoring tools but I kept getting an error message that a particular file could not be found. In the end I decided to use a LAN cable, (LAN drivers came with the mobo) give the cable software a miss - no problems! However, every time Windows now starts, I keep getting the missing file error message. I checked the registry to see if there was any chance of it being a 'run once' type of file but could'nt see anything (although I'm not overly familiar with the registry). As I said this is just a nuisance - but it would be nice if there was a way to get rid of the error message permanently.

Each time my system starts, or if I log off and back on again, I receive an Error Message that says--A newer version of this program has run on this PC--and then it asks if I want to close the older version. I have tried in vein to locate the problem but have had no luck. There is no obvious identifier for ther message (other than a the fact that the message appears in a Windows type box and has a small white circle with a question mark in it. I would appreciate any hints on locating the offending program so that I can eliminate the older version. Am running a P4 2.4 gig, 1gig RAM with Windows XP pro SP2 installed.
