A friend of mine has been given a computer without a keyboard. It works fine except WinXP doesn't find a keyboard when a normal PS/2 keyboard is connected. The keyboard is working fine when running DOS or BIOS setup. I tried reinstalling WinXP but the keyboard doesn't work after booting the XP cdrom. Now the computer says "Restarting XP installation" after booting from the hdd. But it doesn't complete the installation without an usable keyboard.
I have a AMD Athlon XP Processor. After noticing that the speed wasnt preforming right - i.e. 1.25 GHZ instead of 2.25GHZ i went into the Bios on a MSI motherboad and went to CPU Speed and it was set as 100MHZ but i put it it up 200 thinking it was that or it could of been the CPU Frequency as 100MHZ and i put that up to 200MHZ. After doing that it rebooted with a black screen nothing comming up. I inserted a floppy disc to see if it was booting up as i would be able to tell to see if it accesses it - but no. What has happened - is there anyway of doing anything, as the keyboard doesnt work either as i would of been able to change it in the Bios.
i'm having a serious problem with my computer, i am on my dads pc the now because my PC is trippin. Programs start up on their own and the keyboard doesnt work. I Think it is a virus or a hacker, or maybe even spyware im not sure. When i stick my system recovery disc in and at the start up but wen it asks u to press 'r' i can't even becuase the keyboard isnt responding. is their anyway i can get my PC back on track ? because i dont want to lose everything on it i have around 300gb of stuff on it.
Was never able to restart after that. Normal boot shows the windows initial screen, but eventually just restarts, safe mode does the same thing whether it's with network, command line or plain safe mode. Last known good configuration does the same.Needed to use a file so decided to remove the HD and re-install to another PC. I did have access to the file in question but now I'd like to fix the problem. The other system uses AVG. I started a scan and it detected Cekar.d (A0003977.exe, wdfmgr.exe and initially ntldr.exe), Dropper.Inor (ntdetect.hta, A0003979.hta), PSW.Generic5.ABVW (ctfmona.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.AAFI (ctfmonb.exe), PSW.Generic5.AFYK (ctfmond.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.ZWT (LotusHlp.exe) and some others but for whatever reason the scan stopped. I restarted it and now the AV still finds most of the threats it was seeing before but not Cekar.d. in the ntldr.exe file.
Firstly it's veeeeeery slow booting up, when on the xp loading screen the scrolling blue bars will stop, sometimes for over a minute. When it eventually gets to the user log on screen it again takes forever to load. Secondly. I removed a couple of progs. msn and google search bars and motorolla phone tools. On restart it just kept rebooting after getting a BSOD. I started in safe mode and took the check out of automatically restart in startup and recovery, and it now seems to be ok. Thirdly. my keyboard isn't working, I am having to use the onscreen keyboard which is a pain.
I have Windows 7 installed on my new computer, but my firewire audio card and also some software wouldn't work properly with it, so I put my old hard drive with Windows XP installed on it into my new computer. I can boot up Windows XP from the second hard drive at the bios screen bit, but when it gets to the log in screen, the mouse and keyboard will not respond. I have tried multiple mice and keyboards including the old school style non-USB keyboard. The keyboard works fine to press F12 to get into the boot menu etc but then just stops working completely when XP is loaded. I assume its some kind of driver issue or something like that but I'm pretty useless with computers and I have no idea how I can get my mouse and keyboard to respond in XP .
My laptop has an volume up and down buttons (Turns the volume up or down). Up until now, whenever I pressed one of these buttons, a sound bar appeared on the screen showing what is the volume status. Now it's not displayed anymore.
My computer will just freeze out of nowhere, never while in a game, but sometimes while just doing menial tasks in windows, or just idling. By Freezes, I mean, I have one image on my monitor that's it. The mouse doesn't respond, the keyboard doesn't, nothing brings it out of it. It's ridiculous, and I'm tired of rebooting in the middle of something important.I recently found that the SM Bus Controller Drivers aren't installed, and I'm installing those, would that have anything to do with it?
i installed Windows Vista Ultimate on my C Drive. and then installed Xp SP2 on my D Drive, in that sequence. now when the window boots it doesn't show the booting options and directly boots into XP SP2. i can not boot into Vista now. is there anyway i can make OS choice menu available / boot into Vista.
I think ive got a keylogger, so I am reinstalling XP. (I am very paranoid, I can't stand it) My Windows XP cd was very scratched, so I made a back-up, then threw it away (saved serial and stuff). First problem: when trying to burn the iso that I created from the original disk, when I am done burning with CDBurnerXP it crashes. Then, for the big boy. When I restart my computer, boot from CD, the installation loads all drivers and stuff, but my keyboard won't work so I can't continue with the installation.
I got a new graphics card today. So I went to Add/Remove programs, and removed the Nvidia driver. I rebooted the PC as requested. After rebooting PC (keeping the same graphics card in) the black Windows logo screen took much longer than usual. Then when it finished so that I could click on my profile, I couldn't, the mouse nor the keyboard are functioning. I tried a different mouse and keyboard. I unplugged my computer and restarted, I tried in safe mode and the same thing. The keyboard works at the BIOS screen because I can get into the BIOS and select safemode as needed.
the problem is that whenever caps lock, num lock, or scroll lock is pressed my keyboard goes into caps lock. my keyboard doesnt show this and i cant get out of capslock. whenever one of these buttons is pressed then the treo of lock leds lights up and then quits. after that to type in lowercase i have to hold the shift key.
When I start up my computer it will not respond to anything that has to do with my keyboard and mouse. I couldn't figure out why, I mean they came with my computer. The mouse is not even optical and it has a cord. I tried booting into safemode but since the keyboard doesn't work I couldn't. I tried booting from a disk but I have to be able to press any key to be able to do that. I couldn't log onto the accounts because that requires both a mouse and a keyboard. I tried using a different and keyboard that plug into the same ports, which resulted in the same thing. So I used a keyboard for a playstation 2 because it uses USB and I used a mouse I found that hooks up to USB as well. They work fine. However, I want the PS/2 ports to work because I better things to be taking up my usb ports.
Can I get my Intelli Keyboard (Bluetooth) working on my new x64 Edition Win XP? The software does not appear to work that comes with the product. I need x64 bit versions of the software, surely MS makes it, Also need the same for my fingerpint scanner from Microsoft.
System infoV2 : PREMIER, XP Home Edition, P4, 2.6Ghz, 448mb.Did a complete virus and spyware clean and system runs fine now while removing some stuff from ADD/REMOVE I MAY have remove a driver or two by mistake , now my system powers nicely but i do not have use of my keyboard or mouse.Booting in safe mode just wont go anywhere so what next
This isn't my machine it belongs to my grandpa. It has XP SP2 on it. It loads just past cmos screen then reboots itself. no message or nothing. Try run windows normally doesn't work. Try run safe mode with network support NOPE.
my friend tried to reformat my computer but for some reason my f2 key doesnt work out of all the keys on my laptop. i still get blue screens every once in awhile all related to windows. is there any other way to reformat besides going through the f2 during reboot?
Trying to fix a relatives Dell Dimension 5100 c2005. Can only get to the welcome screen then keyboard and mouse wont work; both are usb of course as this Dell has no PS2 ports. I have loaded another copy of xp home and can boot into it ok and see the other installation ok too. From within this second copy of xp have run chkdsk and also have run chkdsk from (2nd XP Home CD) recovery consul.
My computer wasn't recognizing my CD-RW drive, so I opened up 'regedit' to delete the upper and lower filters from the drive. Well, I deleted the wrong filters. The next time Windows loaded up, it failed to recognize the mouse and the keyboard (!!!). So I basically have a paralyzed computer - I can't do anything with it. I know that reinstalling Windows would solve the problem, but I'm looking for a way to take care of this without losing all of my files. I know it's possible .
I have a Win XP SP2 desktop. I lost use of the optical drives a while ago (both the factory DVDROM and a DVD Burner that I installed). When I tried to turn it on, I found that my keyboard (which worked before) does not work on my login screen (I have password protection on the alt logon...the one with just the username and a password box I booted into Ubuntu from a Live CD (I can do anything before Windows loads). Everything worked fine.
In device manage it has exclamation by it i uninstalled but if i do add hardware its located w/ exclamation by itif i uninstall an restart its back with exclamation dont work in safe mode works be4 boot when i type in password its disabled on boot.
Going to START/Search button then adding parameters to close up search such as choosing "Case Sensitive" DOES NOT WORK. When I pressed Go for the search, all kinds of files popped up in the search such as Realization.doc, Capitalization.xls, anything that had the letters liz in it when I had typed in the "File and Folder" box Liz (Capital L lowercase iz) and then a space after the z. I have files named Liz(space).this and Liz(space). that, and that's what I was searching for. But files still appeared that had lowercase liz in the middle of a word like Capitalization. So what's the point of having a Case Sensitive box to check, when it doesn't work! Am I doing something wrong here?
Ctrl now opens the bookmarks side-bar in firefox when I try to ctrl + c to copy something it does in fact copy but it opens the bookmarks sidebar every time. Also I cannot ctrl alt delete to open taskmanager anymore.
Alright, my in laws are having a problem with their computer and they said that last weekend Windows XP (SP3) asked to reactivate so they did without a hitch. I've never had a computer ask to do that unless I changed some hardware (which they did not) but maybe it's just never happened to me! So last week (a couple of days after the reactivation) they said weird things started happening. For instance if you go to the start menu to active windows, it comes up with a blank screen, the Windows search function comes up with a green screen and the little dog but that's it, IE doesn't load unless you type in an address and I couldn't get any web page to load that uses Active X. I ran the Kaspersky online test with no problems found and I couldn't run the antivirus from Eset because it requires Active X. Windows media player also doesn't load, it just brings up a blank screen. My father in law was able to defrag the computer though. I didn't have much time to really play with it so I'm not 100% sure what else isn't working but I know Firefox, Utorrent and VLC work fine. Has anyone had a similar problem or know where I should start to fix this?
some hours ago, I tried to run regedit as usual by using "Start | Run", but it said:regedit.exe - Unable To Locate ComponentThis application has failed to start because clb.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem. I checked my running processes as well as restarted the PC. clb.dll was located at SysWOW64 (being a 32-bit dll, obviously) but not at System32 (where only 64-bit-files are stored), copying it to System32 didn't change anything. After a while of searching the inet in vain I realized I hadn't tried to start regedit.exe or regedt32.exe in SysWOW64 (but regedt32.exe in System32, which gives the error), and surprisingly, it worked. Still the problem remains: I can't start it using "Run" anymore (which worked since 18.05.2005), and I didn't change anything big but uninstalled WindowBlinds (a windows skinning software which worked quite well for many months). Could WindowBlinds be the reason, and if so, how? Moreover, will I experience further problems?(msconfig still works normally and can be started by "Run"; often, this isn't possible when encountering the regedit clb.dll error).
I have the option to 'open explorer window' in winzip checked so it opens an explorer window of the destination I unzip files to. Recently I noticed that stopped working. Then explorer crashed causing my start menu to disapear so I used ctrl-alt-dlt to open task manager and entered 'explorer' in the run box and clicked ok. Nothing happened. explorer did not reopen.I then figured out if I entered 'c:windowsexplorer.exe' in the run box explorer would then open.I'm guessing both these problems are related as it seems winzip is unable to to open explorer.Does anyone know how to fix this? I just recently scanned for virus' with 2 seperate scanners & and scanned for spyware with 2 separate programs and im clean & i only surf with firefox. So its not virus or spyware.
my system only has USB & a new USB2 device I recently bought automatically started to update the USB 2.0 system, now none of my input devices work in Windows XP.I've now read article 813139 & it says:"Note If you are using a USB keyboard and a mouse input device, Microsoft does not recommend that you update the USB 2.0 host controller driver by means of Device Manager. If you do this, the keyboard and mouse do not function, and you cannot control the system or safely restart the computer."
So, I have the same problem few seems to have here, my 2nd HDD doesn't show up. The problem came when I formated my main HDD and installed XP on it. After that I can't get the 2nd HDD working.First of all, it shows on BIOS, its connected with cables (tried several, thought if the cables were broken), shows on control panel, on system. But I can't see any drives, not a single one. It has worked correctly for over 5 years, which 4 of them has been with the main HDD and XP, the same thing I have now.The 2nd HDD is Samsung SV4002H, I have few pics to clear the problem.
