My laptop has an volume up and down buttons (Turns the volume up or down). Up until now, whenever I pressed one of these buttons, a sound bar appeared on the screen showing what is the volume status. Now it's not displayed anymore.
View 11 RepliesI get a series of low pitch beeps about every hour for a second or two no matter what's running.It's not a system beep, much lower in freguency. Everything else is working fine, good audio for all playbacks.I don't have a system speaker attached to the motherboard. The sound comes thru my Sound Blaster powered speakers, even with the volume off.

I downloaded a fanfare i wanted to use and changed it to a WAV file, but when Windows starts, i only get the first note, about half a second. When I click on the sound in the change sounds in sounds and audio device properties, it plays fine.

"Corporate Edition" doesn't exist (allegedly, actually I personally don't care if it exists or not), is seemingly subject to more demands for proof of existence than God himself and of couse the term "Corporate" means its a pirated version of the said Volume Licensed WinXP Pro which has also been screamed about like its in the bloody constitution or something. I call Volume Licensed WinXP Pro "Corporate" because its easier to say and write for that matter than "Volume Licensed WinXP Pro". Thats it it, just works better nothing more.
In all the time XP has been on release and I have been working with it in the industry I have never yet heard anybody at all refer to "Volume Licensed WinXP Pro" or anything remotely similar; they all from IT managers to shop floor builders call it "Corporate" or similar....
A friend of mine has been given a computer without a keyboard. It works fine except WinXP doesn't find a keyboard when a normal PS/2 keyboard is connected. The keyboard is working fine when running DOS or BIOS setup. I tried reinstalling WinXP but the keyboard doesn't work after booting the XP cdrom.Now the computer says "Restarting XP installation" after booting from the hdd. But it doesn't complete the installation without an usable keyboard.

After noticing that the speed wasnt preforming right - i.e. 1.25 GHZ instead of 2.25GHZ i went into the Bios on a MSI motherboad and went to CPU Speed and it was set as 100MHZ but i put it it up 200 thinking it was that or it could of been the CPU Frequency as 100MHZ and i put that up to 200MHZ. After doing that it rebooted with a black screen nothing comming up. I inserted a floppy disc to see if it was booting up as i would be able to tell to see if it accesses it - but no. What has happened - is there anyway of doing anything, as the keyboard doesnt work either as i would of been able to change it in the Bios.

I Think it is a virus or a hacker, or maybe even spyware im not sure. When i stick my system recovery disc in and at the start up but wen it asks u to press 'r' i can't even becuase the keyboard isnt responding. is their anyway i can get my PC back on track ? because i dont want to lose everything on it i have around 300gb of stuff on it.

By Freezes, I mean, I have one image on my monitor that's it. The mouse doesn't respond, the keyboard doesn't, nothing brings it out of it. It's ridiculous, and I'm tired of rebooting in the middle of something important.I recently found that the SM Bus Controller Drivers aren't installed, and I'm installing those, would that have anything to do with it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI cannot seem to make my sound volume icon stay in my taskbar. I have Winxp on my Gateway laptop. So far, I've unlocked the taskbar, then I went to my control panel and checked the box that said to put icon in taskbar. Then sometimes the icon would appear in the taskbar. Then I would lock the taskbar. Then the next time I rebooted, the icon was gone. Sometimes the icon won't even appear in the taskbar when I put the little check mark where it belongs in the control panel.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have XP Home SP2 (of course a correct license, and with automatic Windows update). Suddenly the sound on my computer disappeared. The sound card drivers looks okay, but the volume and mixer programs seem to be gone. Maybe some other sound/audio programs and/or dll:s are missing too, I don't know. I can not install them again because the only disc I got from the supplier is a recovery disc so that the computer becomes as new (for 3? years ago), so that is not an option (it would take me a month to update and configure everything again, then). And there are no extra (for install purposes) windows sw on the harddisc. And I cannot find anything useful on Microsofts site and they do not have any useful support service for my problem as it seems. So, I am stuck and now need help from you guys.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm a fairly experienced Window user and I'm about to pull my hair out trying to figure out these two issues I'm having as of late with my system. Both of these seem to have started on thier own and I can find no traces of spyware or virus. The first issue is my computer will seem to lag at random times for around 10 seconds where it will not acknowledge input from the keyboard, it will take input from the mouse and or joystick but not the keyboard. After the 10 seconds has passed all the keys I've pressed will go in all at once.some reason when I play an AVI file now the foreground sounds (voices mostly) is completely drowned out but I can hear the background music just fine. I don't have any fancy surround soundcard in this system only the onboard sound card and its plugged into a simple set of desktop speakers.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a volume control icon at my system tray...then, all of the sudden, the icon shows a "mute" status...i tried to unmute it by double-clicking the icon to access the volume control...nothing happened...i went to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices...also, nothing happened...i thought that this applet (mmsys.cpl) in C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32 was corrupted, so i tried to run it from other folder containing that file but still, nothing happened...at this point, i don't think that all 3 files were corrupted...the only way to control the volume , and to mute/unmute is by using the Creative Surround Mixer (i have an Audigy sound card),which work flawlessly...The wierd part is, even i unmute from here, the volume icon at the system tray still shown as 'mute'..but i can still hear all the sounds and songs...Then, I've discovered that in AudioHQ (also from Creative software), under the View>Multimedia Propertis, I CAN actually access the 'Sound and Audio Devices' applet...this will open the 'Audio' tab...other tabs like 'Sound', 'Voice' and 'Hardware' is also accessible from here, BUT, when opening the 'Volume' tab, it hangs...i could't access this applet any longer...the only way to close it is to end the process (rundll32.exe) in the task manager.That's why i conclude that the volume tab in the applet is problematic.

View 6 Replies View Related1. Whenever I play a game on my machine (such as Zuma, Rocket Mania), I get "system has encountered a problem" errors or blue screen crashes. There is no consistency in the errors that I or my husband can see.
I have:
1. downloaded and reinstalled Audio and Video drivers (many times), including reverting backwards
2. run disc clean, System Mechanics clutter clean, spybot, internet clean--if I do these and then boot, the games will run (sometimes).
3. deleted and physically relocated the page file (which is set to max--4096)
4. done full virus scan, registry clean, adscan---my machine is so clean it squeeks
2. Keyboard is freezing when I'm typing (either online or off--doesn't matter which program either). The display stops and I can keep typing. After maybe 10 seconds, the screen catches up. I have deleted and reinstalled my keyboard.
3. I have lost my system sound but have sound on all games (except one).
My volume icon is missing from the tool bar. It has happened before, but a few reboots would always bring it back. Now it is gone. I have gone to control panel>sound and audio properties and found the place volume icon in task bar box checked. What can I do next?
View 10 Replies View RelatedNow, once the "Windows is Starting" screen appears, nothing happens on screen when you try to type (e.g., when entering her password), BUT, if you HOLD the key down, as soon as the keyboard auto-repeat cuts in, THEN the letters appear. (You can hear a clicking sound from the motherboard speaker with each and every key press.) To enter her password she has to press each key long enough for autostart to begin and then quickly lift her finger off the key to prevent multiple instances of the letter. HOWEVER, once she gets into her account, the problem is gone. There also is no keyboard problem BEFORE Windnows (XP Pro) starts up. We tried doing an OS repair but it did not change anything.

Attached to it is a small Cambridge Soundworks speaker system that has worked perfectly until now... Suddenly no more audio from this system, except for the computer inside speakers that is working just fine. I have checked all the connections (speakers and woofer). I have been doing a lot of "cleaning" lately - due to the fact that my computer has been very slow... I used CCleaner, WinUtilities and Premium Booster. My anti virus is AVG.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of msn m. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by Internet, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m.

I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. View 1 Replies View RelatedI just finished assembling my new build. It boots and I can get to the BIOS. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.
So i was trying to make some room on y C drive and i guess i deleted some files that i shouldn't To make a long story short now my volume control thingy that stays on my taskbar has dissapeared.When i go to the control panel and to sounds and audio devices and i get in there and there is an icon with the option to place volume icon on the taskbar but when i click on that i get 'windows cannot display the volume control on the task bar because the volume control program has not been installed. After several tries i figured i deleted the windows file soundvol32.exe but how the hell do i get it back and put it in its right place?I have no idea where it would go? Anybody have an idea how i can install that back? I tried using my windows cd but since i put service pack 2 on it it said that the version of windows i had on the cd was older than my current version.

Normal boot shows the windows initial screen, but eventually just restarts, safe mode does the same thing whether it's with network, command line or plain safe mode. Last known good configuration does the same.Needed to use a file so decided to remove the HD and re-install to another PC. I did have access to the file in question but now I'd like to fix the problem.
The other system uses AVG. I started a scan and it detected Cekar.d (A0003977.exe, wdfmgr.exe and initially ntldr.exe), Dropper.Inor (ntdetect.hta, A0003979.hta), PSW.Generic5.ABVW (ctfmona.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.AAFI (ctfmonb.exe), PSW.Generic5.AFYK (ctfmond.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.ZWT (LotusHlp.exe) and some others but for whatever reason the scan stopped. I restarted it and now the AV still finds most of the threats it was seeing before but not Cekar.d. in the ntldr.exe file.
My friends keyboard is not working. When she turns the computer on no lights come up on the keyboard. Have tried another keyboard and still the same. Unable to get into the computer to check bios etc as there is a password on the account.
