View 4 RepliesFor some strange reason, my volume keeps getting muted. When I open the VOLUME CONTROL, the MUTE ALL box is checked, so I uncheck it. Then, a little while later it happens again. This had been going on for about a week now and it's very frustrating. Especially when you're in the middle of a game or spomething and all of a sudden, theres no sound.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Audigy sound card on my Pentium III 550 MHz, OS is XP. Sound is OK, media player, Power DVD etc are working fine. I have a TV tuner card and a program called TVR installed for watching TV. Ever since Audigy is installed when I turn on the TVR progrm the Line-in on volume control panel gets muted. I de-selected the Mute to enable Line-in. OK, it worked. Every time I restart the PC and if I run TVR I have to de-select the Mute button again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning XP Professional and the sound is muted. In the control panel in Sounds and Audio DevicesVolume the mute box is checked and will not clear. Is there a registry setting that is causing this or can this be set elsewhere?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI get a series of low pitch beeps about every hour for a second or two no matter what's running. It's not a system beep, much lower in freguency. Everything else is working fine, good audio for all playbacks.I don't have a system speaker attached to the motherboard. The sound comes thru my Sound Blaster powered speakers, even with the volume off.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI cannot seem to make my sound volume icon stay in my taskbar. I have Winxp on my Gateway laptop. So far, I've unlocked the taskbar, then I went to my control panel and checked the box that said to put icon in taskbar. Then sometimes the icon would appear in the taskbar. Then I would lock the taskbar. Then the next time I rebooted, the icon was gone. Sometimes the icon won't even appear in the taskbar when I put the little check mark where it belongs in the control panel.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have XP Home SP2 (of course a correct license, and with automatic Windows update). Suddenly the sound on my computer disappeared. The sound card drivers looks okay, but the volume and mixer programs seem to be gone. Maybe some other sound/audio programs and/or dll:s are missing too, I don't know. I can not install them again because the only disc I got from the supplier is a recovery disc so that the computer becomes as new (for 3? years ago), so that is not an option (it would take me a month to update and configure everything again, then). And there are no extra (for install purposes) windows sw on the harddisc. And I cannot find anything useful on Microsofts site and they do not have any useful support service for my problem as it seems. So, I am stuck and now need help from you guys.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a volume control icon at my system tray...then, all of the sudden, the icon shows a "mute" status...i tried to unmute it by double-clicking the icon to access the volume control...nothing happened...i went to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices...also, nothing happened...i thought that this applet (mmsys.cpl) in C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32 was corrupted, so i tried to run it from other folder containing that file but still, nothing happened...at this point, i don't think that all 3 files were corrupted...the only way to control the volume , and to mute/unmute is by using the Creative Surround Mixer (i have an Audigy sound card),which work flawlessly...The wierd part is, even i unmute from here, the volume icon at the system tray still shown as 'mute'..but i can still hear all the sounds and songs...Then, I've discovered that in AudioHQ (also from Creative software), under the View>Multimedia Propertis, I CAN actually access the 'Sound and Audio Devices' applet...this will open the 'Audio' tab...other tabs like 'Sound', 'Voice' and 'Hardware' is also accessible from here, BUT, when opening the 'Volume' tab, it hangs...i could't access this applet any longer...the only way to close it is to end the process (rundll32.exe) in the task manager. That's why i conclude that the volume tab in the applet is problematic.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm having a lot of trouble just in the last few days. I have a VAIO Laptop (model number is in my info) running Windows XP with SP2. I come home and get the start up screen for Windows XP (the running time meter on the bottom) that stays there for about 5 minutes. I shut it off, rebooted and it was an extended time, but it finally went. Upon the login screen, I log in and the melody it makes for logging on is cut halfway through, as if someone yanked the cord on speakers. Everything is running extremely slow. When I try to actually do anything, the program pretty much becomes non-responsive. Sometimes tryin to End Program on the non-responsive program will not work. The info box asking to send info over the internet appears, however teh program is still running. McAfee virus scanned, first time brought up 11 or 12 items, however I had to go and ended the scan, I dont know if it deleted/quarantined the items or not, but the next time I came home and tried it only found 1 item, which was just a cookie. Also, the scan took upwards of 3-4 hours...Also, my CPU Usage is idling and roaming (currently) around 85-100% which I know is bad. Can't really tell which Process is causing all the usage. Not even running any programs, it is hovering up in those high numbers. The 100% is not a peak either, it stays up there for a while.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of msn m. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by Internet, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m.

After a while my sound will cut out and when I try to play things in Winamp or anything it will stay stuck @ 0:00The sounds will sputter for a second and then freeze. Also when the sound dies, sometimes programs will start to freeze up to the point I can't even kill them in tskmgr. System sounds don't play either.I've tried updating to the latest drivers. I right-click My computer, go to properties, hardware, device manager, then there are 2 yellow circles with exclamation points in them under Multimedia Audio Controller (Intel 82801AA ac'91 Audio Controller), and Unknown Device (Microsoft MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device). I tried to reinstall them, but it says There was a problem installing this hardware: Intel 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller. An error occured during the installation of the device. The data is invalid.

I finally got my internet up and I began to play Counter-strike. The sound sometimes messes up. I can hear other peoples shots just fine, but when I shot, it is almost silent.
This started last night, the only thing that I did that was out of the ordinary was ran Avast's thourough scan fully, but even after that my sound worked, so it didnt delete the driver to my knowlege, but when I do a dxdiag and look at my audio, it doesn't exist, there is no sound card installed, and allI use is my DFI Lan Party UT RDX200 CF-DR mother boards on board sound. I tried installing the driver again fom DFI and to no success, now when I went to install the drive again, I got an error saying that this device isnt approved by Windows. Could windows be preventing my audio card from working?
When i start my pc skype says that he hasn't found recording hardware. Itunes doesn't work, like Windows Media Player, Winamp etc. The sound is gone. I tried to fix it myself, cause i disabled a driver that seemed to have a problem, but i don't remember what the name was. Now not only the programs have no sound anymore, but windows is silent too. It sure wasn't the driver of my sound card. I installed Everest and he doesn't find any Windows Audio, and says the realtek has "noDB". When i am in the music tab of the "Diagnostic help program for DirectX" "windows synthesizer" test sound doesn't play, but the realtek does.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is about sound issues from the computer as in cant get sound from the computer.Went to computer properties then multi media controller has yellow question mark next to it so tried to update driver it goes to the wizard but it will not find any drivers for it without a cd which dont have. Tried roll back drivers says no drivers are backed up on file. Went to sound audio video game controllers audio codecs says all the codecs are working for this computer. Control panel sound audio says no sound device is connected. The sound card is realtek ALC655 AC 97 enhanced audio controller. Again got these drivers from foxxconn and exactly same issues. Extracted the files easily enough from wizard but when go to exe run folder the run it says cannot find setupfilex.dll. Then go to gxdver it dont do anything. Go to exe icon run and logger then it goes cannot run please find the setup exe file from the directory. In the folders cannot seem to find anything that will install the actual drivers without a conflicting issue somewhere. So everytime download this compressed driver folders for the drivers it has problems when the files are extracted. The sound card is enabled and mutli media controller says code 28 drivers not installed.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI did a reinstall of Windows XP and I can't get the sound to work. Here is the sound card:Sound Blaster Live! Platinum rev.5 CT4760P. My computer is upgraded and so it is a hybrid system. I downloaded the driver for Sound Blaster Live! from the website and it still has the same problem. To be sure there was no on board sound, I took out the card and the computer said I had no audio devices which means there isn't a on-board sound card.
