Mp3 Or WMa Files Play With Vocals Muted
Jul 16, 2005
Whenever I playback mp3 or wma files I get the the music playing okay but the vocals are either muted or muted with a lot of echo. It seems like a software preference choice eg bathroom or hall setting or maybe a karoke type setting but I can't find out where it as been applied. How do I get my players to play the files in a standard manner?

I have a couple thousand midi files broken into smaller folders. I click one to play with Media Player or there was a link that said PLAY ALL. That doesn't appear anymore and I have to keep selecting tunes each time one ends. I looked in the window drop downs but can't find how to bring back PLAY ALL.

In the Open URL dialog, try opening the file using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:").I am also having problems with UPDATING Windows Media- I get a message saying I am missing some components. I cant go into the Microsoft updates webpage either- I get a message saying ''page cannot be displayed''

For some strange reason, my volume keeps getting muted. When I open the VOLUME CONTROL, the MUTE ALL box is checked, so I uncheck it. Then, a little while later it happens again. This had been going on for about a week now and it's very frustrating. Especially when you're in the middle of a game or spomething and all of a sudden, theres no sound.

I installed Audigy sound card on my Pentium III 550 MHz, OS is XP. Sound is OK, media player, Power DVD etc are working fine. I have a TV tuner card and a program called TVR installed for watching TV. Ever since Audigy is installed when I turn on the TVR progrm the Line-in on volume control panel gets muted. I de-selected the Mute to enable Line-in. OK, it worked. Every time I restart the PC and if I run TVR I have to de-select the Mute button again.

I'm having a lot of trouble just in the last few days. I have a VAIO Laptop (model number is in my info) running Windows XP with SP2. I come home and get the start up screen for Windows XP (the running time meter on the bottom) that stays there for about 5 minutes. I shut it off, rebooted and it was an extended time, but it finally went. Upon the login screen, I log in and the melody it makes for logging on is cut halfway through, as if someone yanked the cord on speakers. Everything is running extremely slow. When I try to actually do anything, the program pretty much becomes non-responsive. Sometimes tryin to End Program on the non-responsive program will not work. The info box asking to send info over the internet appears, however teh program is still running. McAfee virus scanned, first time brought up 11 or 12 items, however I had to go and ended the scan, I dont know if it deleted/quarantined the items or not, but the next time I came home and tried it only found 1 item, which was just a cookie. Also, the scan took upwards of 3-4 hours...Also, my CPU Usage is idling and roaming (currently) around 85-100% which I know is bad. Can't really tell which Process is causing all the usage. Not even running any programs, it is hovering up in those high numbers. The 100% is not a peak either, it stays up there for a while.

I have a (I hope) a small problem with WMP and wav files. I've fixed a similar problem a while back but I've forgotten how :-).I can't play any wav files with my player. I get an error message that reads the following "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."The funny thing is I can play the wav files in other players like winamp , quicktime and mplayer classic. Also read this when I try in wmp 10 "C00D1199: Cannot play the file Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons: The file type is not supported by the Player. For a list of file types (formats) that are supported by Windows Media Player, see Supported file types. The file type is supported by the Player, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the Player. "

I have an HP 3GB Pentium 4 computer. WMP has a lot of static watching AVI movies. It plays music and Quick Time Movies just fine. I thought it might have been a speaker problem since the volume is very low on one speaker. Switched speakers and the one with more volume moved to the other side. I may have a speaker problem, have to burrow a pair from a friend. However I played the same AVI movies but used Real Player and DIVX Player and they played with no static. Since WMP will play mov or quick time and mp3 files but not avi without static it has me confused. I may need new speakers but I'm guessing it won't solve my real problem.

I am running windows XPSP3 with windows media player 11. For some reason I cannot play wmv or avi files. I get the audio but no video. This is true for any media player that I have tried. I have re installed both the media player and windows to no avail. I have checked the codecs and seem to have the most common ones (see below) I ran GSpot on one of the files and it said that I had the proper codec, yet it still won't play. I am sure it is a setting problem of some sort , but don't know where. Can you give me any help?

recently i did a system restore to fix some problems that came up after my siblings used my computer. before the system restore i could play avi files no problem, but afterwards the media player can only play the sound.ive tried several movie players such as divx, windows media player, klite movie player, and vlc. all of them can play the audio but not video.i updated my divx codec and downloaded a new fddshow codec but it didnt work. k-lite codec pack comes with a whole lot of video codecs to play any movie format, but it still doesnt work.

Whenever i try to play some of my video files (.avi, .mpg. wmv. etc) my shell and media player will both crash. For shells i have tried both bblean and standard explorer, media players i have tried are windows media player, winamp, and bsplayer. It dosent actually crash the program, it just brings up the little "this program needs to close" thing. if i drag it to the side the video will continue to play (somtimes). somtimes the videos wont load at all.

whenever I try to play music it doesnt play, it says low on memory, whenever I open any Microsoft Word program it gives me some error about a license, and whever I try to copy and paste anything, it doesnt let me. I have a few partitions on my hard drive and whenever I copy one file or a folder or anything, I cannot paste it anywhere. If I open Control Panel, the screen doesnt appear as usual, all the icons are on two columns on the lft side with a scroll bar next to them. If I try to open Add/Remove programs, it comes up all garbled. I was going to just reformat the whole computer but it will not boot from the cd rom drive now. And whenever the computer is booted in W2K and I try to browse the CD in My Computer, it just says "Please insert disk in drive...." Also, whenevr I restart, it sits on my desktop for about 5 minutes before it finally brings up the icons and everything. It has never done any of this, it just started this morning.

Some of my video files are not working for want of Indeo Video Codec. I have been working on a video convert tool as my last application. I do not know what happened and this got corrupted. It gives pop up message for MS Encarta Video files saying "The program you are trying to run requires a current Indeo codec To obtain a current driver that is compatible with this version of Windows, please contact the manufacturer at http://indeo.ligos.com.". When I check with them, they ask me to contact OS supplier

When I was installing Windows XP SP3 on this computer, I received a notice that the installer couldn't find a specific file, but I was able to skip over it and resume installation. I received this notice when I installed Windows on another machine but this time looked it up and was able to find the file on the CD (don't remember the file name.). On the first computer, it seems like a lot of plug and play functionality doesn't work..specifically when I hook up my Creative Zen (MP3 player) or even Blackberry. I am unable to transfer files to or from these devices through Explorer like I can the other computer in which I did a thorough installation of Windows. I am also unable to update Windows Media Player, which could or could not be related. Is it possible the file I skipped over is what's causing this issue? Is there any way I can repair Windows or do I have to re-install?
