Pro Sound Not Working - Play CD Or Wav Files
Aug 8, 2005Onboard sound will not play CD or wav files etc I installed a Creative Live card still no sound, the sound options in volume are greyed out.

Play All Not Listed To Play Midi Files
Dec 29, 2007I have a couple thousand midi files broken into smaller folders. I click one to play with Media Player or there was a link that said PLAY ALL. That doesn't appear anymore and I have to keep selecting tunes each time one ends. I looked in the window drop downs but can't find how to bring back PLAY ALL.

Jul 16, 2008After a while my sound will cut out and when I try to play things in Winamp or anything it will stay stuck @ 0:00The sounds will sputter for a second and then freeze. Also when the sound dies, sometimes programs will start to freeze up to the point I can't even kill them in tskmgr. System sounds don't play either.I've tried updating to the latest drivers. I tried an older version of the drivers too.

Aug 30, 2009Yesterday I took a couple of snaps as usual with my Olympus Digital 6.0 mega pixel 2.5 LCD.Used the usual cable to connect the camera via USB front port on my PC tower and the usual D: Removable dialog box did not show up on my desktop for me to choose out of several items what I wanted to do. I right clicked on My Computer > open, but the D:drive was empty. I usually choose to 'make a new folder on Picasa' > import and that is it.
So I then downloaded and installed Olympus Master CD that came with the camera, (Never needed before) but I thought I will try anything to correct this issue. Still the same, the D: Removable Drive is empty. I then booted up my Laptop on the same Network, enabled the camera in the USB port, up popped the AutoPlay dialog box, chose to make a new folder in Picasa, imported the pics, and using the sharing folder importing the pictures over to the PC. Certainly the long way around for me. So to clarify the Laptop works well with importing the pics from the camera, but the PC will not which is the new issue.Can anyone pinpoint what the trouble is on the PC that it will not recognize the camera and its photos for importing. One interesting thing when disconnecting the camera from the PC I used the "Remove Hardware option" the camera showed up for hardware to remove, so in one way the PC is recognizing the camera and in another it is not.
Sound / USB Ports / Plug And Play Dont Work
Nov 18, 2008After a recent automatic software update, the sound on my computer stopped working. When I go to the device manager, it's telling me that no audio device is installed and I can't seem to find it or how to reinstall it (I do not have the disk that came with the computer). However, my main concerns are the USB ports and the Plug and Play feature. These were working fine, but now nothing happens when I plug in a USB device. There is power going to the USB ports, however, the system doesn't seem to recognize that I have plugged something in. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and restarting the system, and the drivers were correctly reinstalled but it is still not finding any new device that I plug in. System restore isn't working either.

Oct 11, 2005i have a dell inspiron 7500 with windows 200 installed on it. i just tried to play a music cd and wmp said it "cannot play the file b/c there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly". i ran diagnostics and it came back with no errors on the Audio port. i was able to hear all of the sound test w/o any issues. I have updated the drivers for windows 2000 on my laptop also. I checked for question marks or exclamation mark in Device Manager! Did not have any there? I also uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. when i go to properties for the sound drivers everything is grayed out!

May 16, 2008I have an ASUS laptop running WinXP SP2. Recently the autoplay function on my CD/DVD drive has stopped working. It still reads the cds and dvds but when I insert one it doesn't register it (i.e. display the name of the cd/dvd) and doesn't autoplay. I have checked the properties of the drive and autoplay is switched on for all cd/dvd types (I have also reset it to default settings to make sure). I have tried the Microsoft Autoplay fix for Win XP as well but this hasn't worked either.I can't think of any software that I have installed or uninstalled recently that could have caused this not to work and I can't think of anything else to try.

Apr 1, 2009I have an HP 3GB Pentium 4 computer. WMP has a lot of static watching AVI movies. It plays music and Quick Time Movies just fine. I thought it might have been a speaker problem since the volume is very low on one speaker. Switched speakers and the one with more volume moved to the other side. I may have a speaker problem, have to burrow a pair from a friend. However I played the same AVI movies but used Real Player and DIVX Player and they played with no static. Since WMP will play mov or quick time and mp3 files but not avi without static it has me confused. I may need new speakers but I'm guessing it won't solve my real problem.

Oct 20, 2008I am running windows XPSP3 with windows media player 11. For some reason I cannot play wmv or avi files. I get the audio but no video. This is true for any media player that I have tried. I have re installed both the media player and windows to no avail. I have checked the codecs and seem to have the most common ones (see below) I ran GSpot on one of the files and it said that I had the proper codec, yet it still won't play. I am sure it is a setting problem of some sort , but don't know where. Can you give me any help?

Sep 5, 2006my keyboard got messed up and stopped working. When I was messing around with the back of the tower to try to fix it, I somehow killed my sound off too. Eventually, I got a new keyboard, but after adjusting with the stuff on the back of the computer tower the sound still didn't work.
Since my sister's computer specs and mine are the same, I checked out the device manager on both of the PCs to see what was missing from mine. I found out that it was a "Realtek AC'97 Audio" listing. So of course, I google it up and download what I find. However, after installing it, it still doesn't work. It doesn't even show in the device manager! And to make matters more confusing, when I start up my computer, it says that I can press Shift+F10 to configure it. When I do that, a DOS-like menu pops up where I can change a few options but nothing I change will get the sound working.
When I go to Accessories --> Entertainment --> Volume Control, it says that there are no active mixer devices available.
I don't think it's related to viruses or spyware. I've scanned multiple times with TuneUp, Spybot, Ad-aware, Norton, and a few other programs.HiJackThis information:

Sound Has Stopped Working
Jan 24, 2007The sound on my PC stopped working about a week ago. Hadn't installed anything in at least the few weeks before it stopped.
I decided to re format the PC a few days later thinking that it would be fine, which initially it was, am running XP professional. Windows did all its updates as per normal and the sound stopped again.
Reinstalled the PC yet again to try and get to the bottom of things and this time went through things a bit more slowly. Did it's first lot of updates, was fine after those. That was yesterday that they updated. Tonight installed Service Pack 2 and thats when it has stopped.
In the Sound and Audio Devices section of the Control Panel it is saying there is no audio device installed, yet I had installed it via the CD that came with the motherboard. Soundmax sound on an ASUS k8v SE deluxe motherbord. why something like this may have happened?
Sound Stopped Working
Jul 9, 2010I recently lost audio playback on my pc. It runs Windows XP and uses Creative SB Audigy Sound Device. It worked just fine until recently. I booted the pc up for the day and discovered no sound. Under "Device Manager" the device is listed as working properly with up-to-date driver. It is the only audio device that can be "un-installed" or "enabled/disabled" other than some "UniModem half duplex audio device" that is disabled. Under "sounds and audio device properties", "Audio Tab" the default playback device is listed as "modem line #3 playback". I tried to change the audio playback to the "Creative SB Audigy", but their is no other option than the "Modem #3 Line Playback". In the same, "Sounds and Audio Device Properties", under the "Volume" tab, it says "No Audio Device".
