I'm using Windows XP, amd athlon XP2.5, 1.83 Ghz with 512 RAM and kindda old graphic card. ok ok .. its GeForce 4. My PC hangs quaite often and i dont play any games. We are using intranet in my campus and i'm not sharing any files either.
View 7 RepliesOkay so I seem to have this problem with every single PC game I try to play. Basically I'm just trying to focus on possible causes of the problem. When I start a game up, let's say Age Of Empires III, as soon as the intro video comes up I hear some weird clicking or ticking. Then I can play as usual but with the clicking popping up every once in a while.. Then usually after a random amount of time the game will freeze. OR I can actually quit the game and do somethin else for a while but somewhere down the road - my PC freezes.
This happens with every game, more often with more taxing games on my video card. Now I know clicking is usually associated with HDDs but I just dunno about that. I have two HDDs and for example. I had Pirates installed on HDD 1 and had the problem so I wiped the drives clean and installed WinXP and Pirates on the other drive and had the same problem.

I open a new page or file my pc opens a new window which is no big problem but my task bar quickly fills up, it never used to do this. I also have a problem when I play certain games the resolution gets adjusted and when I shut the game down items have disappeared from my desktop, to get them back I have to adjust resolution to make icons large, drag items to side of desktop, then adjust resolution back to normal. Its not with games like GTA Episodes from LC or PoP:Forgotten Sands, games such as NFS:Carbon also has these problems. I remember that games such as NFS:Carbon used to run even on my old pc which didn't even had any graphic card.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen i put my computer in standby or hibernation...about 75% of the time, when i bring it out of said state, i can use instant messaging, play online games, my internet works, but not my internet browser. neither firefox or IE works, it acts just as if i was offline. my second problem...is when using a program that opens an HTM or HTML file inside itself (counter-strike, anti-virus, just about anything), it asks me before it opens it, and if i click ok, it opens it in my internet browser, and i have no idea why. this gets REALLY annoying, especially during online gaming when i can't see in-game guides to do things, and it opens up 3-4 dialog screens before every single game.

After playing for a LONG time, the game briefly paused and I saw some visual artifacts, textures were all messed up etc. But I loaded a savegame and it worked fine after that. (I admit it, I had tried overclocking my GPU but that was over three weeks ago and I reset the settings back to normal.) Then, after about an hour, I used alt+tab to check out a walkthrough, then alt+tabbed back and it took much longer than normal to get back into the game...

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently Windows has been hanging a little after closing Firefox and/or Windows Live Mail. if I close Firefox or WM Windows Mail and click on the Start button or anything for that matter Windows will hang maybe 2 seconds before it loads it. It didn't used to do this. I've ran anti virus/spyware programs (Which returned no real threats) and Ccleaner. As far as I know the drivers and whatnot should be up-to-date too. As for the game, it's particulary only one as I notice lags in a certain way that never had before. It's America's Army and every so often I will get this lag that will last for a few seconds and just go away. It will make the game real sluggish but only for about 4 or so seconds but gets quite annoying as this didn't used to happen before.

I am not real savvy on computer knowledge but open to try. By the way, this used to work when it was initially hooked up.

Its intended purpose was to allow all 3 computers to connect to the Internet via an 11.0 Mbps internet connection via cable TV, which has been successful. However, I have never learned how to have one computer send info to another within my little wireless home network, a feature I would like to have, but which I have never explored. I have recently been messing with shared folders, placing two of the three computers on the wireless network, but have found it elusive as to how to put info in a folder to allow it to be shared by the other computer. I am unsure as to whether I have properly put each computer on the network. (Yes, I know I could put files on a disk in the A or D drive, which I have done, but I was of the impression that I could do things more efficiently this way, instead. Indeed, I would like to be able to download entire programs from one machine to the other. But lets keep it simple.) What I have done so far simply doesn't work.

I grant specific users both the shared permissions and advanced permissions. they can see the folder and access the folders. but they cannot modify them. It says "access denied". I verified that the permissions were not propogating from the parent folder also. Everything that i see says it should work, but it doesnt. iThe only thing i got to work was giving the user full rights to the above folder..which is for all to share but not to modify.

I can set sharing by disabling simple sharing and then using computer management console - but I would like the simple sharing to work - is there something missing from the system? View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a PC that had numerous defunct users, some from old defunct workgroups. I thought I'd consolidate. I moved a bunch of files and folders to a current users folder and deleted the defunct files and folders. I did this in Explore, loged in as Administrator, because these defunct users were from a previous defunct workgroups and did not show up in User Accounts/ControlPanel. As administrator I can read and wrtie to these files, but the user can't. I have marked these folders as shared and given permission to do everything to them, but the user that need them still can't write to them. As Administrator, I have assigned him to the powerUsers Group in the Users account/ControlPanel.

I recently purchased a 20GB Maxtor OneTouch II USB hard drive and it came with Retrospect HD to back up my comptuer. The program will not do anyhting if i click setup so I can set it up to back up my computer. It also says ''updating status'' the whole time. Ihave left it at this screen for a long time and still nothing happened. I downloaded and installed the updrade for this from Maxtor's website, and it is still doign the same thing. Any suggestions on how to get this prgram working so I can back-up my computer?
If I use this to back-up my computer, and I use its restore feature, will I get problems on my computer that I currently have? (the main problem is with Windows Firewall, becuase i cannot enable it. My ocmptuer got infected a couple months ago and ever since is says it is controlled by Group Policy. View 1 Replies View RelatedI know you all seen this problem before but I've got to try. I have a Compaq, with a 60 gig hard drive, 384 of memory, 1195 Mhz processor and running windows XP. My computer runs like it was at the tops 300 Mhz. I've check for virus and spy ware, deleted unnecessary files, uninstall most of my games, defrag the c drive and defrag my registrey. I even changed my battery. And it still runs slow. Any suggestion on what I can do? I'm about reading to throw it. Also it is constantly freezing up on me. Man I thought XP wasn't to do that.
