Reinstalling a sound driver for onboard sound from a pre-packaged XP, I've tried for days to locate my driver with no success.
This started last night, the only thing that I did that was out of the ordinary was ran Avast's thourough scan fully, but even after that my sound worked, so it didnt delete the driver to my knowlege, but when I do a dxdiag and look at my audio, it doesn't exist, there is no sound card installed, and allI use is my DFI Lan Party UT RDX200 CF-DR mother boards on board sound. I tried installing the driver again fom DFI and to no success, now when I went to install the drive again, I got an error saying that this device isnt approved by Windows. Could windows be preventing my audio card from working?
Bought a computer today and the guy said it has onboard sound, it says no driver installed but i dont know how to find out what the sound part is called to download driver, it just says other devices, multi media sound controller. Says motherboard is ACPI uniprocesser PC. I have speakers connected in the right connection.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my OS to WinXP Pro from WinME, and there is no sound. I right-click My computer, go to properties, hardware, device manager, then there are 2 yellow circles with exclamation points in them under Multimedia Audio Controller (Intel 82801AA ac'91 Audio Controller), and Unknown Device (Microsoft MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device). I tried to reinstall them, but it says There was a problem installing this hardware: Intel 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller. An error occured during the installation of the device. The data is invalid.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI miss a step or screw up formatting just let me know. Earlier today I downloaded a sound driver for my card hoping to update it. It caused lots of problems. But first the normal details: Quote: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600) 2.65 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 FX. I have also tried removing the card, starting up the pc, rebooting, and then returning the card with no luck. I've tried uninstalling the drivers entirely but they always seem to reappear when I reboot
View 13 Replies View RelatedI had to erase my hard drive and reinstall windows(with the help of Gateway tech support), and now I have no sound. Tried the troubleshooter, to no avail. Says devices are working properly, but volume control is disabled because there is no audio device installed. Also have no screensaver; no 3d device either. Need these things for the classes I'm taking online.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just did a clean install of Win XP Pro. Prior to this, the sound was working fine. After the reinstall, no sound. The computer has a Creative SB Live sound card, device manager tells me that it is working correctly, and the speakers (Boston Acoustics with subwoofer) are set up exactly as before. I worked through troubleshooting and it still didnt help. I would appreciate any help. Not only does the system sounds not work, but I can no longer hear audio cds (Media player 10, shows the disk is playing but no sound from speakers).
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm about ready to beat my head into a wall.I've got an onboard sound card that has not worked since I formatted my computer (Win XP Pro SP2). The device has the latest drivers from the manufacturer installed, it's enabled in Windows and the BIOS, the Audio Codecs are there, the Windows Sound service is running, thd driver reports no problems at all and yet, No Audio Devices are found when I go into Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control Panel. I've tried installing another sound card in there too, which installs fine, but still isn't selectable as an audio device. What the heck could I be missing here?

Because I am poor, a friend of mine gave me a brand new machine with a blank HD. I have this morning installed a genuine fresh copy of XP Home which appears to have gone on OK (I have 20 years PC experience, but little of it messing around with new installs).
I got my internet working, anti virus etc, but when I checked the device manager to see why I was not getting sound.
I've done a screen cap of device manager (but I don't know how to place it on here) - If anyone wants it e mailing I can of course do that.
By the look of it, the sound card is integral to the motherboard but the device manager is not identifying it by name. If I am identify / find drivers on the net,

I recently had to reformat my PC and now I need to reinstall my video card and sound card drivers. The only problem is, I don't have the driver CD anymore. when I try to find out what my video/sound cards are I draw a blank because they don't seem to be displayed anywhere (display properties/settings/advanced/adapter). All adapter type and adapter information are all I know my video card is ATI but that's all I know and as for the sound card - I haven't a clue what make that is. I've been on the ATI website but there are so many drivers I don't know which one to download/install.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently and unwittingly uninstalled my SoundMax program that I assume was my sound driver. As such I can no longer receive audio from my speakers, and the speakers themselves are not recognized by XP. The speakers themselves, by my judgement, are Logitech Z-3e speakers, bought several years ago and working perfectly until this point. They are connected correctly. I am running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3, with the latest updates. WMP gives me the message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device" In WMP, under Sync--->Options--->Speaker Properties, the speaker is listed as "Default DirectSound Device" and there is no other option. In Audio Device Properties, there is apparently no audio device. I visited the logitech site for a new sound driver, as XP Help reccomended, at the following site:....
