when i restart my computer the volume icon on the taskbar does not show up so i go into the control panel/sound & audio devices and the checkmark is still there saying place volume icon on taskbar so i uncheck then apply and check again and apply it comes up then i go to restart my computer again and its gone yet again how do i keep the volume icon from disappearing?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI cannot seem to make my sound volume icon stay in my taskbar. I have Winxp on my Gateway laptop. So far, I've unlocked the taskbar, then I went to my control panel and checked the box that said to put icon in taskbar. Then sometimes the icon would appear in the taskbar. Then I would lock the taskbar. Then the next time I rebooted, the icon was gone. Sometimes the icon won't even appear in the taskbar when I put the little check mark where it belongs in the control panel.

I went to the notification area where you can choose to place the icon on the taskbar, but it's greyed out and I can't change the gray so that I can highlight. The compaq people have me uninstall a driver and that didn't help. We selected default setting s and that didn't help. I found instructions on Microsoft.help but they work only if you've got the cd. My Windows XPHome ed. was preinstalled.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a windowsxp operating system.Last week I noticed the volume icon missing in the system Tray as well as all other icons.The only one left is Norton icon.When I open the task bar and go into customize notifications all the icons are either folders or icons.Example volume has the picture of a folder.Norton has a lexmark icon.Lexmark has a folder icon.Real message center has a volume icon.I have been trying all week to remedy this problem.Ran Norton and Adware.Nothing.Has anyone in the forum run into this problem before and if so how did you fix it.

When I go to the volume options there is a tick in the box that says 'Place volume icon in taskbar.' But if I take the tick out and click apply and the put the tick back in and click apply, it reappears. However the next time I start my computer, it has disappeared again.

View 21 Replies View RelatedIn the last few months my volume icon does not load in the system tray most of the time on boot up.I have it selected to show in the task bar properties and the control panel. For the life of me I can't figure out how to get this icon back. I have to bring up the Master Volume Panel to change volume settings. This is a real pain most of the time, as all I want to do is stop a web site from playing some anoying music or turn the volume back on when I need it.

It was working yesterday...Can anyone tell me how to check my Sound Playback device and playback programs? Everything else is working fine, good audio for all playbacks.I don't have a system speaker attached to the motherboard. View 2 Replies View Relatedwhen running chkdsk /f at command prompt in windows, i get the message about drive being in use, would you like to run chkdsk after next restart. I choose yes and restart the computer. But, after chkdsk runs, I dont have time to read the results as it quickly continues to load the OS when it is finished. Chkdsk (without /f) in cmd in windows tells me there is a problem with my file system although I do not have any bad sectors. I have run chkdsk /f (after restart) twice and it still has not fixed whatever the error is.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is running windows xp home edition. it's packardbell, i bought it recently and updated service pack 2. since then it plays music for couple of minutes and sound goes off along with the volume icon on the taskbar. i tried control panel - sounds - show icon taskbar, but it doesn't work until i restart the comupter. i don't understand what could be wrong.. hardware or software. if it's hardware then the sound icon doesnt' disappear all of a sudden with out an error message.

To turn off my pc,i usually click on start in the taskbar,then the options to stand-by,turn off or restart appear,I then click on turn off,and the pc does the rest,it turns the pc off and the monitor. Now when i go through the process of turning it off, i do everything as described above,but instead of shutting off,it just acts as if i did nothing,i am left staring at the desktop and can just continue to use it as normal.So i have come to the conclusion that some sort of virus or something (i am doing a virus sweep as i am writting) has turned off the auto shutdown function,What i'd really love to know is can anyone tell me how i can turn this feature back on,i also forgot to add,that u cannot log off either,the same thing happens.

I've winxp Home with SP2 system, yesterday my daughter had installed the program 'MS Plus' from the XP Installation CD which was not installed earlier in the machine. My OS is original, but to-day on opening the system I'm seeing that the icon of Hard Drive(E : Drive)to which the program was installed went missing and in its place another icon (which generally represents for any unidentified file) has taken its place.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have XP Home SP2 (of course a correct license, and with automatic Windows update). Suddenly the sound on my computer disappeared. The sound card drivers looks okay, but the volume and mixer programs seem to be gone. Maybe some other sound/audio programs and/or dll:s are missing too, I don't know. I can not install them again because the only disc I got from the supplier is a recovery disc so that the computer becomes as new (for 3? years ago), so that is not an option (it would take me a month to update and configure everything again, then). And there are no extra (for install purposes) windows sw on the harddisc. And I cannot find anything useful on Microsofts site and they do not have any useful support service for my problem as it seems. So, I am stuck and now need help from you guys.
