Speaker Icon In System Tray Missing" Option Grayed Out?
Oct 3, 2005For about 2 months now the speaker icon in the systray has been missing. I've been to control panel>sounds and multimedia and the area to checkmark to show it is grayed out. Tried the replace the sndvol thing from the cd, but didn't help. Also, reinstalled the software for my card.

May 16, 2009I have a 5 year old Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop equiped with XP Professional. Attached to it is a small Cambridge Soundworks speaker system that has worked perfectly until now... Suddenly no more audio from this system, except for the computer inside speakers that is working just fine. I have checked all the connections (speakers and woofer). I have been doing a lot of "cleaning" lately - due to the fact that my computer has been very slow... I used CCleaner, WinUtilities and Premium Booster. My anti virus is AVG.

Jul 30, 2005I ahve been trying to get the volume icon back on my taskbar so I can raise and lower the volume. I went to the notification area where you can choose to place the icon on the taskbar, but it's greyed out and I can't change the gray so that I can highlight. The compaq people have me uninstall a driver and that didn't help. We selected default setting s and that didn't help. I found instructions on Microsoft.help but they work only if you've got the cd. My Windows XPHome ed. was preinstalled.

May 14, 2006I have a windowsxp operating system.Last week I noticed the volume icon missing in the system Tray as well as all other icons.The only one left is Norton icon.When I open the task bar and go into customize notifications all the icons are either folders or icons.Example volume has the picture of a folder.Norton has a lexmark icon.Lexmark has a folder icon.Real message center has a volume icon.I have been trying all week to remedy this problem.Ran Norton and Adware.Nothing.Has anyone in the forum run into this problem before and if so how did you fix it.

Aug 25, 2006Whenever I start my computer the volume icon is missing from the notification area. When I go to the volume options there is a tick in the box that says 'Place volume icon in taskbar.' But if I take the tick out and click apply and the put the tick back in and click apply, it reappears. However the next time I start my computer, it has disappeared again.

May 9, 2005In the last few months my volume icon does not load in the system tray most of the time on boot up.I have it selected to show in the task bar properties and the control panel. For the life of me I can't figure out how to get this icon back. I have to bring up the Master Volume Panel to change volume settings. This is a real pain most of the time, as all I want to do is stop a web site from playing some anoying music or turn the volume back on when I need it.

I click on it and nothing happens...I click again nothing happens. I reboot, click again nothing happens Yet if I go into My Computer, I can search there but I want to search where it says Search. Jan 17, 2005I cannot get into my PC. All of a sudden I trun on my PC and the login icons is MISSING! There is no username icon to click at the welcome screen. I tried to boot in safe mode and it still requires I click a user. I hit CNTRL+DEL+ALT twice to log on but it wouldnt take my password so I have no way to get into my system. Its Windows XP pro and I am not sure if I have SP2 or not.
