View 1 RepliesI just got a Airlink101 wireless 4 port router (AR325W). $15.00 at fry's. Great buy, and had to get it.I want to just use the wired setup. Not the wireless. How do I turn off the wireless part. I do not want to use it yet, and I do not want anyone else to use my connection over the air. My home computers are already set up in a wired network. This is my first router, so I'm a bit unused to router jargin. I did a quick scan of the complete manual, and saw how to set up the wired and wireless part, but nothing about turning it off the wireless. Maybe it is as simple as not connecting the antenna. I don't know. Anyone have any thoughts?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had to uninstall my wireless driver and had to reinstall it. Was having problems. Now is working fine. Now I am trying to use the Campus internet, but I forgot the settings I need to use. When I access the Campus internet, sometimes there is a small window that pop-up and ask for the username, password and domain. But, since the drivers are "fresh" those settings are gone. I am trying to find a way to re-establish those settings. Unfortunate, the campus staff for this are on vacation. class are over. I am trying to figure out what are the settings. the problem is that I can access the wireless, but until I can write the validation form I can access the internet. I know it was on the wireless properties in certification; any help would be nice.

If I disconnect the ethernet cable I cannot connect to the internet but I can ping websites (I pinged google with zero packets lost). The wireless connection seems to be configured properly. View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway laptop running XP Media Center edition that connects wirelessly to a Linksys router. It works fine that way, but when I plug the ethernet cable in directly to the DSL modem and shut down the router, I get the "page cannot be displayed" message, even though the icon shows that I am connected and the lights are green. I know it is just something with my settings, but cannot get it figured out. I would like this to work, because a direct connection downloads faster and sometimes the wireless does not work due to interference.

View 12 Replies View Relatedlet me start by saying I have had a horrible time with wireless networks for my PC. I have a PC downstairs and a PC upstairs (they are about 10 feet apart through the floor). The PC downstairs is connected to the router/modem. I recently bought a new gateway adapter (Realtek RTL8185). I installed it and everything was fine. Now my problem is every 2 minutes it disconnects, but then reconnects right back (this is bad news for online gaming). The speed is okay, but I have tried reinstalling and everything. It works fine after a restart, but then it starts to disconnect/reconnect, and then just stop all together.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently discovered that something is wrong with my wireless network in my home. Let me start by saying I am not real good with computers, just enough to be dangerous. It's been at least a year ago, but somehow I was able to get my network set up after I got help getting my wireless router (Linksys WRT54GS) set up. I have a desktop and a laptop. First off, I can get internet access on both machines, so I'm good there. The router is wired to the desktop and I connect to the internet wirelessly with the laptop. In layman's terms, here is how I would access my files on one machine from the other when things worked. Once I had the network set up I created a MY NETWORK PLACES shortcut on each machine.
Once opened I somehow created an icon for the folders on the other machine. How I did this I cannot remember. Now, the only tabs showing on the desktop for example are an tab for my router and everything I chose to share on the desktop; nothing for folders to be shared on the laptop like there was. However, right now that's the least of my problems because when I click the tab for VIEW WORKGROUP COMPUTERS I get an error message saying "Jonsnet (my network name) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found." However, when I click MY NETWORK PLACES on the laptop and then VIEW WORKGROUP COMPUTERS I do see a tab for the laptop as well as the desktop, but when I click on the desktop tab I get said error as well.
When I was reformatting my computer i deleted a part of my drive that i think was really important. It was drive E:. After the reformatting I tried to go on the internet. I tried to go on wireless but, I didn't have a wireless internet icon for my wireless card so I plugged it in. Still i could not go on the Internet. Then I tried to open some programs and half of them would load the others I would get error reports from. I think the reason it doesn't work is because of the drive I accidently deleted. Is there any way that I could get the data back without taking it to a repair shop?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAs fate would have it, the warranty expired on the 15th of July - The computer is a Dell Inspiron laptop - running windows XP. After being left online overnight in a hotel with wireless internet it locked up. Currently we get different results (but all results end in a lock up at the windows screen) - usually it comes up with a screen saying "we apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this" (no new hardware or software was installed prior to lockup) It gives you options to try to start - (I can't remember what all it said - but safe mode was a choice and going back to a prior time was a choice) Usually it is just locked up and you can't click on anything.
Once I did get it to go to safe mode and I tried to do a system restore - It did go through all the motions of doing a system restore - but when rebooted - the same "we apologize" error was there - WHen I can click on a starting option it goes to the windows screen - the blue line runs for a few seconds - then it just locks up. Dell wants a small fortune to help me over the phone. This is my son's college computer. I was thinking he probably picked up a virus when he was online in the hotel. Is that possible? It has let me get into set up by pressing F2 during boot - but I have no idea what to do there (if anything) F12 is another option it gives - but it wont do anything when I push that.
My toshiba laptop detected the wireless network in range, but when I try to browse nothing comes out!!!will reinstalling the windows solve the problem, to ensure that all drivers are defined??

View 7 Replies View RelatedTwo computers both running windows XP. I just installed DSL and it came with a combo modem router from Embarq. I have everything working but the laptop's abiltiy to access files on the desktop. The wireless router acts as both internet access and WLAN hub I believe. I have tried for two days now and failed. Had a good thread here, but it lead me to Microsoft and new updates. After new updates lost thread. There is a site that has you fill out a form and try fixes, i was on that most of the day and learned a lot but still no resolution.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to help a mate set up a wireless network to share his new adsl connection between 2 desktop pc's in different parts of the house. He has a modem/router and a switch/wireless ap device, and a usb wireless dongle each machine. Have had all sorts of problems, solved one by one, but for this last one. One of the pc's works fine (Win XP Home), while the other one times out with any internet access attemp (Wn XP Pro sp2). He doesn't need the pc's to talk to each other, only to the internet. one is his and the other his wifes, and they both have work stuff on their machines and don't do lan parties etc. He just wants to get online at the same time. From the machine that doesn't work, I can ping the other pc, the AP, and the modem router fine, but it can't find anything beyond the modem.
If I ping a domain name rather than ip address, it can't even find a dns server to resolve the name. I have spent hours going over and over all the settings. Both machines are set up identically in every respect (relevant to the network that is) but for the fact that one is XP Home and the other XP Pro. Both use only Windows Firewall, and in fact for testing, I've disabled firewall completely on the recalcitrant machine. Both use the same AP, switch, router and modem, and get their IP from the same dhcp server in the modem. I can't figure out why one is working, and the other isn't. My last "long shot" is some difference between XP home and XP Pro. I've never used Pro before, but figured that there shouldn't be a difference for the simple stuff I need to achieve here. but hopefully, I might be wrong?
