Two computers both running windows XP. I just installed DSL and it came with a combo modem router from Embarq. I have everything working but the laptop's abiltiy to access files on the desktop. The wireless router acts as both internet access and WLAN hub I believe. I have tried for two days now and failed. Had a good thread here, but it lead me to Microsoft and new updates. After new updates lost thread. There is a site that has you fill out a form and try fixes, i was on that most of the day and learned a lot but still no resolution.
I am running two computers(One PC and a Laptop, both on XP) on a small network. I have a Motorola Cable Modem, and a Motorola Wireless Router, which seems to be working fine. I can connect to the internet on the Laptop. However, the PC is the one that cannont. I'm not sure what is happening, but I've tried rebooting the PC and unpluging the modem for few seconds, but nothing yet. The Local Area Connection says-"Acquiring network address." And my IP address is currently 0.0.0.0
let me start by saying I have had a horrible time with wireless networks for my PC. I have a PC downstairs and a PC upstairs (they are about 10 feet apart through the floor). The PC downstairs is connected to the router/modem. I recently bought a new gateway adapter (Realtek RTL8185). I installed it and everything was fine. Now my problem is every 2 minutes it disconnects, but then reconnects right back (this is bad news for online gaming). The speed is okay, but I have tried reinstalling and everything. It works fine after a restart, but then it starts to disconnect/reconnect, and then just stop all together.
I have a wireless router 2 wireless comps and 1 wired, my wireless desktop won't connect to the internet but my other 2 will. It was like that all day yesterday then last night it finally connected, now today it won'tagain. I'm sure there's a virus that has corrupted something, I ran grisoft avg last night and it said 0viruses...then today 2 seperate times I got a message saying i hada virus and to click heal and i did and it said healed.
I am hoping somebody on here will be able to help me. I just installed a wireless router so the kids could have the Internet on their computer. I went into the setup and set times to limit how late they could be on. When the time comes that they should be shut off the router disconnects them and then reconnects them shortly thereafter. I have it set to shut off at 9:00 p.m. and turned back on at 8:00 a.m.. I am using a Linksys systems router.
My problem is : When I called Verizon yesterday, I was told that to connect the printer to the router, I do not need the print server. I was asked to locate the ethernet port at the back of my printer, plug the ethernet port cable and connect it to the Verizon router. Unfortunately, my printer does not have an ethernet port. I was told to call HP,and I did but did not get much help. What should I do to get my wireless printer work? I have a PC and a laptop. Prior to Verizon, I have a DSL and Vonage, both routers and print server did not have the same problem.
I had a virus on my computer and had to reboot it entirely. (erase everything) And I went to re install my linksys wireless internet that worked fine before. Now I'm getting a signal that says Im connected but I cannot access the internet. I'm trying to gain internet access on a wireless network from a PC without a wireless card through a laptop that has a wireless card using an ethernet cable in Windows XP but keep getting limited or no connectivity. It wont let me turn on internet connection sharing on the laptop because 192.168.0.1 is being used by the gateway, what can i do?
I recently discovered that something is wrong with my wireless network in my home. Let me start by saying I am not real good with computers, just enough to be dangerous. It's been at least a year ago, but somehow I was able to get my network set up after I got help getting my wireless router (Linksys WRT54GS) set up. I have a desktop and a laptop. First off, I can get internet access on both machines, so I'm good there. The router is wired to the desktop and I connect to the internet wirelessly with the laptop. In layman's terms, here is how I would access my files on one machine from the other when things worked. Once I had the network set up I created a MY NETWORK PLACES shortcut on each machine.
Once opened I somehow created an icon for the folders on the other machine. How I did this I cannot remember. Now, the only tabs showing on the desktop for example are an tab for my router and everything I chose to share on the desktop; nothing for folders to be shared on the laptop like there was. However, right now that's the least of my problems because when I click the tab for VIEW WORKGROUP COMPUTERS I get an error message saying "Jonsnet (my network name) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found." However, when I click MY NETWORK PLACES on the laptop and then VIEW WORKGROUP COMPUTERS I do see a tab for the laptop as well as the desktop, but when I click on the desktop tab I get said error as well.
I am using Windows XP and have wireless internet access.....for some reason my connection has become slower than that of dial up. My daughter recommended I visit this site for help
WinXP SP3; A limited account is unable to access the internet via wireless connection unless an administrator account has logged on to the wireless network. Works Ok after administrator account has logged on and established link. Our church wants to set up a computer in our library for visitors to use to access the internet. A hard wire connection to the router works with the Visitor Limited Account without the Administrator account being logged on. Running a hard wire CAT5 cable to the library isnt an option. The computers wireless adapter is Belkin G Plus MIMO USB adapter. The DSL Modem/Router is a Siemens SE 567.
I just got a Airlink101 wireless 4 port router (AR325W). $15.00 at fry's. Great buy, and had to get it.I want to just use the wired setup. Not the wireless. How do I turn off the wireless part. I do not want to use it yet, and I do not want anyone else to use my connection over the air. My home computers are already set up in a wired network. This is my first router, so I'm a bit unused to router jargin. I did a quick scan of the complete manual, and saw how to set up the wired and wireless part, but nothing about turning it off the wireless. Maybe it is as simple as not connecting the antenna. I don't know. Anyone have any thoughts?
I am trying to run a system restore on one of my computers. I was trying to install a LinkSys wireless router on it. The router would start up fine, but after about 5 or 10 minutes, it would stop working and I would have no internet connection. I went and got a Dlink router, and thought I would do a system restore to before I attempted to put on the LinkSys router. The system restore has been running for more than an hour. The progress bar has gone about 80% and it seems nothing else is happening. I am fearful of turning off the machine in the middle of a restore.
I have this problem. I cannot access Internet. I'm trying with an ADSL connection and with a cable connection trough a LAN with a router. I can ping the router and access other computers in the LAN, but no internet. I have already reinstalled windows, but no success.

I am trying to figure out if the battery is bad in a computer. Turned it off one night and all was well, turn it on the next day and the desktop is differnt one, home page went from google to msn, and the e-mail had to be redone from the start. (out look express) No I am finding more and more things like, the windows tour gude that normally comes up when windows is first put on starts coming up, the files and settings transfer wizard shows up in the start menu even tho it was not used. Spybot was already on the computer but went to start it and had to go through it like you were just putting it on the computer. All these things can it mean something?? I updated and ran spybot and it caught one thing called minibug, fixed it, ran a full adware 2007 scan it caught nothing. have antiviurs up to date, this computer is clean as far as I can tell,
I have installed XP Pro on my D drive in order to practise for the MCDST. However the WLAN drivers for XP Home don't work for XP Pro. Do XP Home and XP Pro require different drivers? Because all other hardware works fine.

I now cannot access my wireless network in the house. I have a Linksys WRT54G router. The Int, WLAN & Ethernet lights are on. When I get into the home internet connections "details" on my HP, it states "acquiring IP address" and list all 0 (zeros.)
I have a question if someone can answer it for me. I have a laptop running windows xp and i want to access it from my university computer to do programming n stuff. I am using my landlords wireless connection. I tried to use the windows xp remote desktop connection but i think due to the firewall settings of the router, it won't let me conect to it. I was wandering if there is a way to connect to my computer without asking my landlord to change some setting in the router or something.
It shows the available "unsecured" wireless connection but I am not connecting to it. I have tried the repair connection option but didnt do any good. Everthing was working properly until last week. I tried to roll back my computer settings but am unable to do this.
I have a wireless router/modem at home and at work. I am wondering if there is a program out there that will show me if computers are using my internet connection.
I had to uninstall my wireless driver and had to reinstall it. Was having problems. Now is working fine. Now I am trying to use the Campus internet, but I forgot the settings I need to use. When I access the Campus internet, sometimes there is a small window that pop-up and ask for the username, password and domain. But, since the drivers are "fresh" those settings are gone. I am trying to find a way to re-establish those settings. Unfortunate, the campus staff for this are on vacation. class are over. I am trying to figure out what are the settings. the problem is that I can access the wireless, but until I can write the validation form I can access the internet. I know it was on the wireless properties in certification; any help would be nice.

I've searched through all previous posts but the solutions have not helped me. This is what is happening, I can connect to the internet if both my ethernet and wireless are connected. If I disconnect the ethernet cable I cannot connect to the internet but I can ping websites (I pinged google with zero packets lost). The wireless connection seems to be configured properly. Here is the ipconfig /all (with ethernet disconnected and wireless connected): ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Windows IP Configuration
