I have a client with a DLink DI-804HV VPN Router. They need to connect with PPTP using the Windows XP "Network Connections". I am able to connect to the VPN with no problem. Their IP structure is 192.168.2.x subnet is 255.255.255.0 and DHCP is turned on with a range of 192.168.2.2 - 254 If I have a user from the PC #1 with 192.168.2.100 ping the PC #2 with 192.168.2.200 then he gets replies with no problem. If I ping him PC #1 (192.168.2.100) I get a reply through the VPN. If I ping PC #2 (192.168.2.200) I get no reply.
So, I had him take the PC #2 192.168.2.200 out of the network (unplug the ethernet) and manually change his IP PC#1 to 192.168.2.200 I cannot ping him. If he changes his IP to anything other than the one DHCP gives him I can't ping him. The only option I can find for the PPTP server settings in the DI-804HV is "Virtual IP of PPTP Server" which I have tried changing to 192.168.5.x and 10.0.0.x with no luck on either.

I've searched through all previous posts but the solutions have not helped me. This is what is happening, I can connect to the internet if both my ethernet and wireless are connected. If I disconnect the ethernet cable I cannot connect to the internet but I can ping websites (I pinged google with zero packets lost). The wireless connection seems to be configured properly. Here is the ipconfig /all (with ethernet disconnected and wireless connected):
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : workout
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown

I am running two computers(One PC and a Laptop, both on XP) on a small network. I have a Motorola Cable Modem, and a Motorola Wireless Router, which seems to be working fine. I can connect to the internet on the Laptop. However, the PC is the one that cannont. I'm not sure what is happening, but I've tried rebooting the PC and unpluging the modem for few seconds, but nothing yet. The Local Area Connection says-"Acquiring network address." And my IP address is currently 0.0.0.0

let me start by saying I have had a horrible time with wireless networks for my PC. I have a PC downstairs and a PC upstairs (they are about 10 feet apart through the floor). The PC downstairs is connected to the router/modem. I recently bought a new gateway adapter (Realtek RTL8185). I installed it and everything was fine. Now my problem is every 2 minutes it disconnects, but then reconnects right back (this is bad news for online gaming). The speed is okay, but I have tried reinstalling and everything. It works fine after a restart, but then it starts to disconnect/reconnect, and then just stop all together.

Two computers both running windows XP. I just installed DSL and it came with a combo modem router from Embarq. I have everything working but the laptop's abiltiy to access files on the desktop. The wireless router acts as both internet access and WLAN hub I believe. I have tried for two days now and failed. Had a good thread here, but it lead me to Microsoft and new updates. After new updates lost thread. There is a site that has you fill out a form and try fixes, i was on that most of the day and learned a lot but still no resolution.

I am hoping somebody on here will be able to help me. I just installed a wireless router so the kids could have the Internet on their computer. I went into the setup and set times to limit how late they could be on. When the time comes that they should be shut off the router disconnects them and then reconnects them shortly thereafter. I have it set to shut off at 9:00 p.m. and turned back on at 8:00 a.m.. I am using a Linksys systems router.

I'm setting up my friends home network. They have 2 PCs connected via ethernet and one laptop on wireless. The router is a wireless router / modem from 2wire. PC number 2 and the laptop both connect with no issues. PC number 1 is weird though. I can go to 192.168.1.254 and it opens up the router system page and I can go through and change and view settings. However when I try to go to any websites it immediately goes to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I have tried netscape and the iTunes store and nothing can connect to the web. I have linux ubuntu on a Live CD and I can boot from that and it connects to the internet just fine.

My Windows XP Professional SP2 computer connect to the internet ok
through Ethernet cable to my cable broadband modem. If I use the command
prompt to ping my modem or any other address it just hangs until I close it
down, I have also tried connecting the modem via USB with the same results.
Anyone got any ideas as to the cure for this problem. I also have McAfee
internet security suite installed and have run complete virus checks and
also run Adaware & Spybot S&D.

I have a weird situation with XP Home edition; SP2 is NOT installed:
System:
XP Home on an eMachines T2742 (2.7 GHZ; 256 Mb RAM; 40 Gb HDD)
Problem:
Boots to Welcome screen and loops back to welcome screen when any of the
UserID buttons are clicked. Ctl-Alt-Del brings up the Classic login dialog
box, but still loops back to XP Style Welcome screen when attempting to log
in from the Classic dialog. Cannot circumvent the boot sequence, nor get
past the Welcome screen to get to any desktop functions in XP.
What I Tried:
F8 out of startup sequence to safe mode - same thing
F8 out of startup sequence to command prompt mode - same thing
F8 out of startup sequence to last known good config - same thing
F8 out of startup sequence to debug mode - same thing
F8 out of startup sequence to boot logging mode - same thing
Checked the CMOS settings for odd power or video settings - all default
settings appear correct.

Laptop is running Windows XP Professional SP2. Server is tunning SBS 4.5 and
Windows NT 4.0. I have two locations with two different gateway IP
Addresses. I have connected to each server by changing the domain and IP
address. Received messsage "welcome to _____ domain". I connect to network,
see all the computers, but can not "map" my drive back to the main server in
the other location.I did turn off the windows firewall and
made sure all my WINS, etc. was correct. I can not ping the server in the
other location. I can ping the server I am currently connected to, and am
supposed to be able (can on 2000) to map a drive back to our other office.

A host computer, windows xp, plugged directly into a satellite modem (Internet) and ONE client computer.
I had to configure my IP addresses manually, but the host ends in "2" and the client in "3" at the end of the IP string.
So - from the client, I can
1) See the Internet fine
2) Ping the host fine
3) Ping the root host (1) fine
From the host I can
1) See the Internet fine
2) When I ping the client, it returns REQUEST TIMED OUT
Both computers are members of the same group.
Both seem to connect fine to the Internet at all times, no problems.
The host computer, sees ITSELF, in that, if you map a drive, and you click on Microsoft Windows Network, then the group name, you SEE the computer name.
On the client, when you click on the same group, it stalls, and you see NOTHING - neither the client NOR the host (despite being able to PING the host)
The Windows firewall is TURNED OFF on both machines.
What do I do to resolve "Request Timed Out"?
The client is attached to the network via a Belkin Wireless Adapter, which seems to work and connect PERFECTLY.
From the client, you can ping the client,(itself) and it responds.
