Wireless Network Claims To Work But No Networks In Range

Apr 21, 2007

Just yesterday, my wireless was working. I have not added or removed any programs. Today, my computer shows that my wireless card is working properly but it is not finding any wireless networks in range, which is wrong. Yesterday, while at my apartment, I could see 9 networks, today I see none. When I go to the coffee shop, it does not see that network either. Right now I am sitting at my school and it is not picking up the network in here either. Everyone else around is picking up the network, just not me. I have checked everything and cannot figure out what the problem is. I have a Compaq Presario R3000Z, running on an AMD Athlon XP Processor (3000+), 800 MHz and 2 GB Ram. Running XP Pro w/Srvc. Pack 2.

My internal network card is a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN. I even uninstalled this and rebooted and after reload, it still does not want to pick up any of the networks. Any ideas where I can start? Already tried the program that fixes corrupt TCP/IP drivers (WinSock XP) and it did not work. Again, nothing was changed prior to this problem. All the settings are the way they have been for the last 3 years.

Loss Of Internet Connection: Programs Requiring Internet Access Unable To Connect?

Nov 19, 2006

After long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.

Loss Of Internet Connection On One Machine Out Of 3?

Dec 2, 2004

I go to install a new machine (P4 1.9 ghz) with a fresh install of windows xp home w/sp2.It starts up fine,I go online and update windows to current security patches. Then after about 15 minutes, I lose internet connection, but just one that one machine. I've swapped cables with my working machines, and that doesn't help. I've swapped network cards (gone thru 3 now) and the problem persists. I've changed ports on the hub, still no change. I read it might have been a virus, but I've gone to 3 different virus scan services and come out clean.

Reformatted Laptop Wireless Networks Not Available?

Apr 8, 2010

I had the XP Security Center virus and, perhaps foolishly, reformatted - or more formally, "system reformat" for "returning the computer to factory conditions", as my friend who helped me with this process called it - my computer and reinstalled the operating system. But when I turned it on for the first time, there was, naturally, no internet connection. However, while I would normally proceed to set one up, there was, for some reason, no "View Available Wireless Networks" option when I right click on the little connection icon at the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

Unable To See Wireless Networks In The List

Dec 7, 2007

I recently changed my OS from Vista to XP Pro. Wireless worked fine on Vista and was brilliant. Now however, I am unable to see wireless networks in the list, without following the instructions on the Microsoft Knowledge Base website, which occurs every time my computer is restarted. This is annoying, because , if i dont have the net I cant see it and is also time consuming. Also my wireless connections are less stable, and I keep disconnecting.

No Internet With Direct Connection / Only Wireless

Apr 20, 2006

I have a Gateway laptop running XP Media Center edition that connects wirelessly to a Linksys router. It works fine that way, but when I plug the ethernet cable in directly to the DSL modem and shut down the router, I get the "page cannot be displayed" message, even though the icon shows that I am connected and the lights are green. I know it is just something with my settings, but cannot get it figured out. I would like this to work, because a direct connection downloads faster and sometimes the wireless does not work due to interference.

Switching From Vista - Lost Wireless Networks

Aug 5, 2009

I've just got a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 1545; Celeron Dual Core T3000; Dell Wireless 1397; Vista SP1 Home Basic with Media). Not liking Vista I decided to re-install my old Windows XP (Home Edition SP2). I had already set up the Wireless connection so I went online and got information on how to install this new OS whilst keeping the Vista one on the same HD. I set up a new partition, installed XP...and now can't access Vista or get any wireless. I've tried going into Network Connections, but I don't have a wireless connection icon, there's no choice for searching for local wireless connections & I'm completely flummoxed!

Anyway, I've tried to find out how to restore my wireless - I've re-installed the XP System Software (which was for an earlier Dell Inspiron model btw), tried installing the ISP Eurotools system software as well. I have tried to set up a new network connection etc, but obviously what I really need is for my laptop to detect the available wireless connections so I can re-join the wireless network we use throughout the house. I'm currently borrowing my dad's laptop, and am really hoping someone will know how I can fix this problem! Also, please note that I'm mostly a novice at computers, so I'd really appreciate step by step instructions on how to correct this.

Formatted Drive E Results In No Wireless Connection Of Internet?

Dec 10, 2006

When I was reformatting my computer i deleted a part of my drive that i think was really important. It was drive E:. After the reformatting I tried to go on the internet. I tried to go on wireless but, I didn't have a wireless internet icon for my wireless card so I plugged it in. Still i could not go on the Internet. Then I tried to open some programs and half of them would load the others I would get error reports from. I think the reason it doesn't work is because of the drive I accidently deleted. Is there any way that I could get the data back without taking it to a repair shop?

Computers Loss Connection Come Back Oonly After Restart

Sep 22, 2005

I have 2 computer and a printer hooked up to a firewall then to the DSL modem. about once or twice a day either 1 or both computers loss connection and the only way to get them to come back up is to restart the computers. Other ways it happens are one will be down without Internet and the other will be working fine. Both computers are HP's running win XP. I am at a remote location that the store connects to. i can ping to the firewall and see it within a min of them calling me and telling me it is down. i dont ever see any errors or lost packets or anything on the firewall.

The things i have done.
1) I have replaced both computer 2 different times.
2) rewired the store with cables from walmart.
3) replaced the modem (replaced by dsl provider - they show the circuit is fine)
4) replaced the firewall
5) gone through hijack this logs even on a computer i set up for them the day before.
6) got a battery backup for the computer in the backroom.

I already talked to my ISP support but these guys are brain damaged or something and cannot even comprehend my problem and all 3 actually concluded that i had somehow contracted some killer virus immediately after connecting my computer and this virus was the root of my problems

Now I guess I'm starting from scratch... There's no webcam software on it or anything like it came with. The resolution doesnt even fit the same after adjusting it. (It's close but still a little stretched out)

Wireless Network Connection Not Connected

Oct 5, 2008

XP has stopped connecting to my wireless connecter "Wireless Network Connection Not Connected" Device manager says everything is normal, and I can identify other local wireless networks. XP recognizes that the connector is there, but it won't hook up. I have disabled and reenabled the wireless connector and reloaded all of the Broadcom software. I tried to do an XP repair, but I am using SP3. The slipstream recovery disc that I made is asking for a password to get into XP, but there isn't any. I've verified this with three different password cracking programs. Everything else is working; I am on an Ethernet connection now.

how to force XP to connect or know what drivers I need to reload that are used to connect to the wireless connector besides the Broadcom's that I have already reloaded? I really don't want to do a complete XP reinstall.

Lost Wireless Connection On Laptop

The laptop can see the wireless network (it shows as available and connected). There is something wrong with the network connection that IE uses but I don't know how to go about fixing it.
