LAN connectivity simply dies- I can't access the internet, but for some reason, my Google Talk still has connectivity. The other computer connected to my router still works, however. It is only the first computer that gets this problem. (The second computer never has connectivity problems, BTW.) The problem can always be rectified by simply logging off and back on.
View 1 RepliesThe problem i have been having is that my pc freezes and random moments and doesnt unfreeze.So basically after it freezes, which usually occurs when im gaming, chatting or listening to music,I have to actually turn the power off to get it going again.I dont get any error messages of any kind.
This has been an ongoing problem now for about a month. Every so often and usually when I'm playing a game, my computer will abruptly shut off. Because it seemed to happen while playing games, I assumed it was my EVGA GeForce 9800 card that was causing the shutdown. However, last night I was just mindlessly surfing and I had the same issue. When I tried to restart, it took a few times before it 'took' this has happend before in the past when the computer has abruptly crashed as for the GeForce, I've uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled.I've also checked to see if it's the fans, but they all seem to be working fine, no obstructions. Is it possible that with it being summer, the room might be getting too hot and in turn causing the computer to run hotter than usual? I don't keep the air on all the time in that room as it's a window unit and I'm conserving energy.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI go to install a new machine (P4 1.9 ghz) with a fresh install of windows xp home w/sp2.It starts up fine,I go online and update windows to current security patches. Then after about 15 minutes, I lose internet connection, but just one that one machine. I've swapped cables with my working machines, and that doesn't help. I've swapped network cards (gone thru 3 now) and the problem persists. I've changed ports on the hub, still no change. I read it might have been a virus, but I've gone to 3 different virus scan services and come out clean.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI lose internet connectivity after a variable period of time of being logged into my computer. I can actually ping and do tracerts to verify that I can "see" the internet. But, my any other methods of accessing the internet do not work! I can't surf using a web-browser, my IM clients do not work, and I can't play any of the online games. I can still share files with computers on my local network.
View 2 Replies View RelatedInternet access through my browsers and online games seems to shut off for no apparent reason.It just started doing this a couple days ago.If I wait long enough, it'll sometimes come back again.If I reboot, it's back online again.Strangely, bittorrent seems to keep working without any problems.I can also ping websites by name.I'm having a really hard time troubleshooting my problem.I'm really not sure where to start looking.I've tried turning on and off the antivirus and firewalls. I've run virus and spyware scans. I tried using a different network card. It doesn't seem to be the router since the other computers in my house work fine.My computer dual boots with Vista and I don't seem to have a problem in Vista.It just happened again immediately after I posted this message in IE7.I could no longer connect to any websites.I closed the IE7 window and booted up Firefox, which worked fine.When I opened IE7 again, it was working again as well.All of this happened within 1 minute.Another example of strange behavior. Right now, Firefox is giving me 'Unable to connect' when I try to browse. But it's also in the middle of downloading a huge file without any problems.Bittorrent is working fine.

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy computer stalling/freezing for no reason. I have AVG and have used Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy and neither have found a problem. Sometimes all of a sudden I lose access to the internet, Im on a LAN but when I lose access the other computers on the LAN still can access the internet fine. If that problem doesnt occur, my computer just decides to stall and when I restart it sometime freezes on the Window XP screen.

I set up an account so she can have her own screen saver and other things kids like. But when she leaves and I log her off, the window goes totally black. The only way I have been able to get rid of it is to do a cold shutdown and I hate doing this.I cannot find out any info in the Help files as I always try to find the information first but know you all are so great at things, here I am asking help again.

Any action that MS Word, or Firefox, or IE, etc, takes, and the music starts skipping. Same thing with videos. The computer has just become very uncooperative in general. And the "activity light" of the computer that normally blinks, sometimes stays on, without blinking, for minutes at a time, and I am not doing anything.

I can have everything that runs at start up running and it will freeze, or I can kill all the processes except for essential ones. It still hangs at random intervals.I don't really know what to do, it's interfering with my work and saving every 2 minutes gets kind of tedious.The one thing that I thought of which obviously isn't the problem now that I've tried it. I have a HDD from my previous computer in as well as the new one. I disabled the drive and it still ended up freezing. Sometimes it will freeze a minute after my computer boots, sometimes it will go for hours and hours.
Does anyone have any idea what might be doing this?
I would really appreciate some advice concerning a troublesome computer.A friend who was running Windows XP on a two-years old computer began to experience occasional freezes and blue screens without any apparent pattern in program or usage. It eventually got so bad that we removed most of his installed software other than the essential, but problems continued. We then made a repair installation of Windows XP from the Dell OS installation disk, after which the computer would fall over every time after initial boot up. With sinking heart (of course, he had no image, but had data backups) we then formatted the hard disk and executed a fresh installation of Windows XP.
Windows now boots but the Windows directories contain very few folders or files. The CD drive can only be read perhaps 50% of the time. Most program installation files refuse to run, but some do. One installation disk which will not run is his internet installation. The computer continues to display sporadic blue screens.Before it goes out the window can anyone suggest our next course of enquiry?
While typing a document, a sound will occur and I will lose my curser. Subsequent typing does not appear on the screen. I have to click where I want to type to reset the cursor. This happens frequently while typing. This occurs in my Word Processor, in my email, or anyplace I type. I found that the Title Bar also dims at that time and if I click on the Title Bar the cursor will return. My operating system is Windows XP. There are no error messages.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm running a custom built pc with windows xp home sp2, amd sempron processor 3300+ 2ghz, 10/08/2005-sis-760-6a7i7fkac-00 motherboard (according to aida32), 512mb ram. often, when i play an audio or video file, it plays perfectly well for a while (ranging from a few seconds to several minutes) and then audio is completely lost (also Internet videos only will play for 2 seconds after this happens). at first i thought that maybe it was a software problem, but it still occurs with each multimedia application i have. the sound returns on a reboot, but the problem still occurs all the time. any ideas about how to solve this?
also, on a slightly unrelated note, the pc also sometimes freezes; usually when several applications are running, bit it has been known to happen when barely anything is open. strangely, the cursor will not move, but remains on screen for a few seconds and then disappears completely. is this due to a lack of ram, or is there another way to solve this?i hope i have provided enough information.
Im trying to uninstall a program on works comp but even though ive signed in as myself(administrator account) and the default administrator account. but error message about having no administrator priveleges. Three other computers set up same time and exactly the same users are working fine. I can log in as Administrator, no problem. Running winxp pro sp2.

It all started when i got a message from my nortons internet security that winlogon.exe was trying to contact the internet.I ran hijckthis, i ran spybot, i ran ad-aware. fixed items i thought needed to be fixed. I don't know if it was before or after all this, but i began getting pop ups from sites i know do not have pop ups, like my own. ran all the programs again. the same offenders keep popping up... i have posted my logs on this site but sadly no one had responded.anyway, now every time i restart my computer, I get a dll error. every time it is a different dll. also, when on for an extended amount of time, say overnight, i lose internet connectivity, even though my cable modem is showing that there is lots of activity going on.can anyone givew me a clue what's going on, or where i can begin looking? should i just scrap it all and reformat my computer?

Every couple days I completely loose sound when playing mp3 or movie formats, although system sounds are working and on device manager my audio devices are working properly. View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer (Toshiba notepad laptop) has recently started making a "ding" noise and it isn't correlated to any action I am taking (ie opening a new window, clicking my mouse, or any specific program). It happens at completely odd frequencies with no apparent cause. I've turned my sound scheme to "No Sounds". I've done a search for spyware (nothing unusual). I've uninstalled any programs that were recently installed (it's still there). I've searched for all .wav files on my computer's c: drive and can't even find the sound that I'm hearing when I play all of the files. Nothing matches it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 2 computer and a printer hooked up to a firewall then to the DSL modem. about once or twice a day either 1 or both computers loss connection and the only way to get them to come back up is to restart the computers. Other ways it happens are one will be down without Internet and the other will be working fine. Both computers are HP's running win XP. I am at a remote location that the store connects to. i can ping to the firewall and see it within a min of them calling me and telling me it is down. i dont ever see any errors or lost packets or anything on the firewall.
The things i have done.
1) I have replaced both computer 2 different times.
2) rewired the store with cables from walmart.
3) replaced the modem (replaced by dsl provider - they show the circuit is fine)
4) replaced the firewall
5) gone through hijack this logs even on a computer i set up for them the day before.
6) got a battery backup for the computer in the backroom.
It's an Asus Eee PC 1501, which has Windows XP installed on it. All it is generally used for is to run XBMC, play music via iTunes and do a little web-surfing. I received some sort of error, the ones that you occasionally get were the dialogue box will generally ask do you want to send the error to Microsoft; 'Send' or 'Don't Send', etc. I normally take note but I was going to to turn off the pc anyway so I pretty much just ignored it (now I can't remember what error it was) and I shut down the PC as normal.
Today I started up my PC as normal, although I seem to have lost many functions. The system hangs just after the welcome screen on the desktop for a while (far longer than it used to. About 5 minutes) without displaying any icons at all.
I decided to launched a game, and realised there was no audio. I tried to bring up Volume Control from the system tray, and was greeted with the error "The audio device supported by this application is not detected. The application will exit." Didn't sound good. BTW, this was while using my Creative SoundBlaster Audigy SE card.The next thing I tried to do was to connect speakers to the integrated card and see if that worked.
I then went all out and uninstalled the Creative and Soundmax drivers and utilities completely, rebooted, and installed them both again afresh between reboots. Still no luck: Same errors. I also tried switching the PCI slot for the audio card as the previous slot was directly underneath the graphics card, but this didn't do the job.
A little background first. A new cheap NAS (Network Attached Storage) was obtained and files being copied up for a fast online second copy when we encountered this message."Confirm Stream Loss.The file 'App Training.avi' has extra information attached to it that might be lost if you continue copying. The contents of the file will not be affected. Do you want to copy the file anyway? In the past we used a Linux box and didn't receive such a message, but this new box is FAT32 based which not only has a 4GB filesize limit but we see we'll lose NTFS metadata along the way. The file itself looks to be fine.I'm a bit surprised I havent' run into this before but what bothers me is that further testing shows that you can provoke the message on backup to floppy, CDRW, DVDRW or many backup systems.

disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentatio or backu utils. check your HD config, and check for any updated drivers run CHKDSK /F to check for HD corruption, and then restart your computer.
