This has been an ongoing problem now for about a month. Every so often and usually when I'm playing a game, my computer will abruptly shut off. Because it seemed to happen while playing games, I assumed it was my EVGA GeForce 9800 card that was causing the shutdown. However, last night I was just mindlessly surfing and I had the same issue. When I tried to restart, it took a few times before it 'took' this has happend before in the past when the computer has abruptly crashed as for the GeForce, I've uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled.I've also checked to see if it's the fans, but they all seem to be working fine, no obstructions. Is it possible that with it being summer, the room might be getting too hot and in turn causing the computer to run hotter than usual? I don't keep the air on all the time in that room as it's a window unit and I'm conserving energy.

Internet access through my browsers and online games seems to shut off for no apparent reason. It just started doing this a couple days ago.If I wait long enough, it'll sometimes come back again. If I reboot, it's back online again.Strangely, bittorrent seems to keep working without any problems.I can also ping websites by name.I'm having a really hard time troubleshooting my problem.I'm really not sure where to start looking.I've tried turning on and off the antivirus and firewalls. I've run virus and spyware scans. I tried using a different network card. It doesn't seem to be the router since the other computers in my house work fine.My computer dual boots with Vista and I don't seem to have a problem in Vista. It just happened again immediately after I posted this message in IE7.I could no longer connect to any websites.I closed the IE7 window and booted up Firefox, which worked fine. When I opened IE7 again, it was working again as well. All of this happened within 1 minute.Another example of strange behavior. Right now, Firefox is giving me 'Unable to connect' when I try to browse. But it's also in the middle of downloading a huge file without any problems.Bittorrent is working fine.

I've been using XP Home with IE 6 and SP2 for a long time. I read a long time ago about people having problems after installing SP3 so I never did. By the way, I do not like IE7. Is there any good reason why I should install SP3 if I plan on staying with IE6?

Gaming, music/photo storage, internet surfing, music making, and video editing just to name a few. Basically, what im saying is my computer is my "lifeforce" . I generally would claim i am generally computer literate. But, I cant find a reason for this to happen. ANYWAY!I turned it on one day, having done nothing to presumably harm a computer, and it goes to the windows loading screen with the blue bar and stay there forever, seriously i timed it the other day, from 1-9 pm it was "loading".I scanned everything while running in "safe mode". no problems. I tried restoring it to an earlier date said it restored successfully, but still sat at loading screen forever.

I'm just sitting here doing something or nothing it doesn't seem to matter and my Computer will just sort of shutdown and restart, like someone pulled the plug out and then put it back in. It's got me really worried because it's even happened in Safe Mode. I've set it up to give me the Blue Screen of Death, but it never says anything the same twice, so I can't get a feel for my problem.

My PC which I finished rebuilding on Thursday has been fine until today when it just restarts for no reason at all. The restarts are very random and very often, sometimes it restarts when Windows XP is loading, not good for keeping the boot files okay. Does anybody know what this may be, I haven't made any recent changes to the OS or hardware since I rebuilt it (and it has been fine since then).

my PC has started rebooting without any seeming rhyme or reason -- and each time it restarts the disc check finds unhappy things.at first i thought the crashes were because of system overload -- too many programs running and/or tasks i was having it do all at once. with no applications running - and it'll blip out and reboot all on its own. more than once.i know there isn't a virus; i run norton and i also went digging, just to be sure. i also finally had it checked out; they couldn't find anything specific. i've stripped about all i can think of from my start-up and have removed software i like but don't have to have, trying to make it easier on the computer.the 'crash' doesn't give any warnings or errors. my computer simply does a restart.

LAN connectivity simply dies- I can't access the internet, but for some reason, my Google Talk still has connectivity. The other computer connected to my router still works, however. It is only the first computer that gets this problem. (The second computer never has connectivity problems, BTW.) The problem can always be rectified by simply logging off and back on.

my computer stalling/freezing for no reason. I have AVG and have used Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy and neither have found a problem. Sometimes all of a sudden I lose access to the internet, Im on a LAN but when I lose access the other computers on the LAN still can access the internet fine. If that problem doesnt occur, my computer just decides to stall and when I restart it sometime freezes on the Window XP screen.

I have about had it with windows when even xp is acting buggy. jus jd to let that out. so it happens when the pc has been sitting for a while not doing anything. When I get home and startup outlook 2000 it takes about 20 seconds to even bring up outlook; this is the same scenario with opera, windows media player...ect My pc is a 2006 model dell xps 410 with a core 2 duo 2.66ghz, 2gb RAM, 250GB HDD (7200rpm). You would think that it would be a screamer with xp. I am careful to not let any "junk" build up on it. Right now the only programs running is AVG, Zone Alarm (firewall), and my sound card utility. and the same old story when I clicked on the start menue to open opera. the hard disk light is solid for like 20 sec until opera opens...i mean its just a web browser. I am begining to wonder if my HDD is messed up. It is freshly defragged. If i cant resolve this im gonna jus do a fresh reinstall of xp. i am currently only using 101gb of the 250gb HDD. For those curious it is a SAMSUNG SP2504C.

My granddaughter's computer has Windows XP, and the IE 6.0 shuts down constantly. I thought perhaps it had to do with the service pak updates -- although I see that she has computer set for automatic updates. After installing XP Service Pks, XP Professional, IE shuts down and does NOT ALLOW THE UPDATE to proceed. but sends an error report message notifying IE is shutting down. Why is IE shutting down?
