Jun 26, 2005I feel like I went back to a pentinum 1 486mh and 16 mb of ram....... I cant figure out what is wrong with my comp. I have run virus scan, spywear scan, done a defrag, and every thing is fine. There is nothing in the startup menu on msconfig screen. but yet my comp takes like 3 mins to restart. getting on the internet with Road Runner takes like 5 mins.

Mar 29, 2005my work colleagues is having trouble with a slow-running computer i thought I'd look at her startup options and make sure there isn't something running that doesn't need to be. I ran msconfig and looked at what she had going at startup, but only the necessary items were checked there. So I took a look at the services panel, using a list from blackviper.com to make sure her computer's settings matched up with those recommendation. However, one of the services listed isn't on the blackviper.com list: Winkcpw. Nor did I get any hits for the name of the service on either Google or using Yahoo search. I'm wondering if anyone here knows what the program is and whether it should be running at all.

Aug 27, 2006I only noticed it earlier today, but for some reason I noticed that my machine was running a little slow this morning. So I did the usuall Disk Cleanup, Defrag and Check Disk. But to no avail my CPU is still running @ 100% without fluxuating(sp).
I also perform a spybot scan as well as a virus scan.
ATA / ATAPI Controllers And Slow Comp!
Dec 5, 2007I have this major problem where my comp runs uber-slow untill I uninstall all the ATP/ATAPI controllers from my Device Manager and reboot. But the moment I reboot Windows reinstalls them again and after my next reboot my data transfer, and my comp in general is slow again.I have no clue as to why my comp runs fine without those controllers, but the moment they auto-install my comp becomes slow and jerky again.

Dec 7, 2008I have about had it with windows when even xp is acting buggy. jus jd to let that out. so it happens when the pc has been sitting for a while not doing anything. When I get home and startup outlook 2000 it takes about 20 seconds to even bring up outlook; this is the same scenario with opera, windows media player...ect My pc is a 2006 model dell xps 410 with a core 2 duo 2.66ghz, 2gb RAM, 250GB HDD (7200rpm). You would think that it would be a screamer with xp. I am careful to not let any "junk" build up on it. Right now the only programs running is AVG, Zone Alarm (firewall), and my sound card utility. and the same old story when I clicked on the start menue to open opera. the hard disk light is solid for like 20 sec until opera opens...i mean its just a web browser. I am begining to wonder if my HDD is messed up. It is freshly defragged. If i cant resolve this im gonna jus do a fresh reinstall of xp. i am currently only using 101gb of the 250gb HDD. For those curious it is a SAMSUNG SP2504C.

Unknown Program Running On The Background Of Computer
Apr 17, 2007I have some sort of program running on the background of my computer that seems to be disturbing any kind of task I try to accomplish on my cpu. It seems to be running every 30 seconds or so for a brief moment and then repeats over and over again. Whenever I try to type, this program or virus clicks off the current window, in which I have to reposition my cursor again back to where it was originally. Even as I type now, I am having to click back onto this editor every 6 or 7 words. I have checked my task manager and cannot find any processes that are running since the only happens and causes a disruption for a brief second. This is very odd and seems to make any task that much more aggravating.

Jun 12, 2008I just cleared off several spywares from my laptop (used SuperAntiSpyware and Smitfraudfix). Both worked without a hitch, but now I found 2 programs running in the background that are eating up my cpu speed. The first was utorrent which I uninstalled thru Add Remove Prog. The other is in the startup folder and will not let me turn it off or uninstal(documents&settings/user/applicationdata/microsoft/dtsc/22751). After reading several other posts on things to do before posting, I cleared the temp folders and ran hijackthis. The log is attached. What is this file and should I remove it, and if so how?

Mar 15, 2005My task manager shows two running processes that, to my knowledge, i never use: QBDAgent.exe and mrtmngr.exe. I believe that QDBAgent has something to do with quick books and i'm not quite sure what the other does. I'm pretty sure that they aren't spyware, but even in that case, i don't want to have them running if they don't need to be. Computer Running Slow - Not Just Internet Slow But Onboard Slow
May 10, 2010Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on.
