Unknown Running Processes Named As QBDAgent.exe And Mrtmngr.exe?
Mar 15, 2005
My task manager shows two running processes that, to my knowledge, i never use: QBDAgent.exe and mrtmngr.exe. I believe that QDBAgent has something to do with quick books and i'm not quite sure what the other does. I'm pretty sure that they aren't spyware, but even in that case, i don't want to have them running if they don't need to be. I know i wasn't having problems before they appeared and i'm not really having problems now

How can I tell which processes don't need to be running on my machine? I think that may be some of what is slowing down my comptuer.

I have asked this before, but on startup, I have several processes named svchost.exe that run on startup. One of these is a network service and every time, this particular one uses 50% +/- CPU. Apps will not open, nothing will function correctly until this is terminated.

At any one time I have approx 60 processes running, even after just booting up my computer. Although I am not a computer expert, this seems like too many to me. I was wondering if anyone could help me by telling me if this definitely is too many to run at once, and if there is some way I can post a list of the running processes and have someone with more knowledge help me get rid of some of them.

Win Xp, Dell and cable connection When I do ctrl>alt>del, it shows 17 System processes running. Are all of these necessary? Also, some of the other running processes i recognize, i.e. firewall, IM, anti-virus, but some of them I don't have a clue what they are. Is there a list somewhere of what should/shouldn't be running necessarily?

I'm running XP. I did an Ad-Aware scan and removed some tracking cookies. It also stated that I had 29 running processes. How do I find what is running to help speed up my PC, and also; which are essential? I have dial-up AOL. It's running like a horse-drawn computer. How can I get it up to at least steam-powered.

Does 66 running processes seem like a lot? I cannot seem to find a thread regarding this. (I'm sure there is, stopped looking after 45 minutes) It doesn't seem to slow my computer at all. I AM running quite a bit on here as far as spyware, virus scans, webshots, etc. It's also a media center 2004 computer with all the trim so there are quite a few windows processes on there. Even with AOL running, my computer is only using 430MB of RAM and I have 1GB.

What process(es) are absolutely essential to leave running for computer to operate? And if the DAW software requires a process to run for use, will it "launch" that process upon starting the program?I have 45 processes running right now when I boot normally. I'm thinking of partitioning C: drive to be able to boot into "audio" mode where all but the most essential processes are stopped and therefore all resources are dedicated to DAW software. Never had to partition a drive before, I figure it's not all that hard.

I went through all the processes listed in my task manager and I show 70 running.I checked them all out and most are "system" processes like svchost.ext and things like spoolsv.exe, etc.but a lot are for programs that I need running in the background (my virus software, mouse, keyboard, smiley faces don't laugh! and stuff like that) not to mention the programs I'm working in at the moment.I'm just curious as to how that compares to other XP users.how many processes do YOU have running right now? BTW, I have tons of memory so the all these processes never create slowdowns or other problems, so I'm not asking because I have an issue to resolve. This is simple a case of inquiring minds want to know!

My PC has slowed down considerably, so I opened the Windows Task Manager and under "Processes" there are 101 processes listed. 53 of those processes are "iexplore.exe" The "Mem Usage" listed for these varies between approximately 14,000 K to 40,000 K. I have looked at the Windows Task Manager sometimes in the past and iexplore.exe certainly wasn't listed this many times. Should I end these processes, and if so, how can I keep this from happening again?

I get a virtual memory low so I check it out and I have DRWTSN32.EXE coming up under processes and it runs over 2500 processes of DRWTSN32.EXE which makes my computer extremely slow. I'm probably wrong but it happened earlier today and my friend told me to type in MSCONFIG in the RUN menu and go to startup and disable all of them because I was running too much, so I did and it worked. But after I had to restart later on in the day, when it came up and I clicked on my Spyware or something it the processes start coming back up and it was slow again. I'm not really sure what triggers it but when it happens I can't really do anything unless I reset it.

I just checked my running processes and I have three of them that are higher than they should be. I've defragged, I've checked for spybots and to see if I have any virus and everything checks out all right. I'm worried that these are so high and I wonder if there is some sort of software or something I can do to bring them back to normal. Here are the three:ashServ.exe 4,372 KB csrss.exe 3,044 KB smss.exe 464 KB

The problem is on a system running XP Pro. Windows boots very slowly into the admin's account with only the background image visible; the taskbar, icons, etc. never load. A runtime error appears after a while, which ends the explorer.exe process. Opening task manager reveals that only a handful of processes are runnning - svchost, crss, winlogon, and a few others that I don't recall. The only thing I can do is use Window+L to switch users and open things manually via the run function in task manager.

I officially give up my stubborn dogged quest to learn, comprehend, and apply everything I should know about what's running on my PC - what each process does, what program(s) it/they originate in, what other services depend upon them, or whether or not I'll be able to brush my teeth if it/they isn't/aren't running. I don't want to know that rolling back a certain driver or manually installing a .dll file will enable some non-essential process to convert anti-aliased vector lines to maximized battery life, or how some helper file will allow QuickTime to covertly play the contents of Huge Jackman's iPod on my Fisher Price boom box. I concede that I'm incapable of grasping neither the logic (if there is any) nor the specifics relative to the phenomena that is computer science.

I was just wondering what is an average number of processes running after restart before you start anything else up. I usually have around 44 running and this seems excessive. I would love to know what a minimum number of processes is to run Windows XP. If you have an idea, please let me know.

My computer has really been running pretty slow at times. It also takes ALOT longer to restart compared to what it use to(<--like maybe approx. 3-4months ago). I know that my hard drive is in pretty decent health & I know my processor isnt going bad. I am pretty sure part of the problem(possibly a very large part) is that I have an aweful lot of processes running (from startup). I do know there are a few startup programs I do want to keep which are: Excite Email Notifier(however I dont need the chat or anything w/it), Winpatrol, AntiVir, & maybe 1or2 others. I have stopped all of the extras that I know arent necessary
