I only noticed it earlier today, but for some reason I noticed that my machine was running a little slow this morning. So I did the usuall Disk Cleanup, Defrag and Check Disk. But to no avail my CPU is still running @ 100% without fluxuating(sp).
I also perform a spybot scan as well as a virus scan.
I feel like I went back to a pentinum 1 486mh and 16 mb of ram....... I cant figure out what is wrong with my comp. I have run virus scan, spywear scan, done a defrag, and every thing is fine. There is nothing in the startup menu on msconfig screen. but yet my comp takes like 3 mins to restart. getting on the internet with Road Runner takes like 5 mins.

(I'm sure there is, stopped looking after 45 minutes) It doesn't seem to slow my computer at all. I AM running quite a bit on here as far as spyware, virus scans, webshots, etc. It's also a media center 2004 computer with all the trim so there are quite a few windows processes on there. Even with AOL running, my computer is only using 430MB of RAM and I have 1GB.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIve just reinstalled xp on a toshiba laptop because windows explorer was damaged and no windows would open. Before this, windows was shutting down at random during startup or when running certain programmes.It was easier to reinstall than fix as no data on the pc was needed & it had a restore disk.the restore seemed to be successful.After loading avg, spybot & spywareblaster, I ran spybot. Halfway through, the pc restarted. Tried again, same prob. Tried avg, This had the same result whilst checking the hosts files, It shuts down whilst checking a file around here: c:i386mdmtosh Tried again, same prob.I have now been told that these programmes did the same thing before the reinstall.

I try and run AdAware and Spybot regularly but it seems that I have to go to each desktop (there are five users on our home computer) to run them to make sure I clean up everything. As you can imagine, especially since my kids do a lot of cruising (most of it supervised), it takes a long time. I am hoping there is some way to be able to run these apps from my desktop and globally cover all desktops at once, but I haven't found it. Any suggestions out there? Thanks.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo basically the computer I'm on was loaded with spyware so I decided to use Spybot to get rid of it. After running it it told me I needed to reboot to remove the rest of the spyware so I did. I got to the windows login screen and after logging into my screen I'm immediately met with a blue screen that flashes for about half a second and then goes to restart the computer. The only way that I can actually get into windows without it crashing is by logging in with safe mode.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend's computer is extremely slow, and I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions. She has a Dell Dimension 2350, (I believe) with a celeron processor. It's not that old (maybe 4-5 years old?).
I am always running her ad-aware and spybot. I just updated her Norton Anti Virus and ran that last night. At this point, I'm not thinking it's any spyware or viruses since they've all been deleted and cleaned out. She used to have spyware, and a lot. Does anyone think that even though it's been cleaned out, perhaps some kind of "permanent" damage has been done to her registry as a result of the spyware I deleted from her computer several months ago?
I ran Spybot last week and it came up with 36 entries for redirected hosts and 1 for my windows security was disabled.At the same time a problem occured with my Norton live update...alert starting LU1890 referring to live update and how some items had been directed into my Windows host file and providing a link to symantec but I was unable to connect to the web site via the link or google.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI went to use PerfectDisc yesterday, it suggested I do a bootup scan, I did, allowed it to do pagefile scan too. Ran fine. Then rebooted, went to do regular scan. it locked up on the Blue Screen of Death.
"Bad_Pool_Header" and gave some error info... 0x00000019, and so on.
Computer runs fine though otherwise, which is funny.
Then when I try to go to Registry Mechanic and scan, it goes all the way through, and on I believe the deepscan, it always goes to BSOD there. I think while it's in the HKEY section of current user.
There may be other programs that will cause the BSOD, but these 2 are the only ones so far. Please guide me through this....Anyone.

The yellow emblem is in the task bar after I boot. Nothing happens when I click on it. When I try to restart the timer goes on and it seems like the computer is frozen. I have never had problems with updates before but this time the download was very slow yesterday and I never got the message to install. When I went to turn off computer 3 updates were ready to install so I let them install.

But the moment I reboot Windows reinstalls them again and after my next reboot my data transfer, and my comp in general is slow again.I have no clue as to why my comp runs fine without those controllers, but the moment they auto-install my comp becomes slow and jerky again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I am on the comp normally, on the internet, using Word, etc. it's all fine. The problem only starts when I try to play a dvd. Sometimes, it will play for a little while and then I hear a 'click' sound and the comp freezes. I would have to press the restart button for it to do anything.Other times, as soon as the DVD drive starts to load a dvd, a 'click' sound is heard, and it freezes.Sometimes, the same happens as above, and the BLUE SCREEN shows up- says something about memory dump..I don't know what to do! I've tried using a different programs to load the DVD, e.g. Power DVD, Windows Media Player, AVI... don't think it makes a difference now! (When I changed from Power DVD to WMP it worked for a week or so, then it started all over again! This problem started when I still had my old DVD drive, which was 8X and now I have a 16X. View 14 Replies View RelatedSometimes I can have the comp on for a couple of days, be playing WoW and HL2 games on it and all sorts of things and it'll suddenly freeze without warning. No hdd light, no error message, just complete freezure (not a real word, I know). Mouse won't move, keyboard is locked out. Sometimes when i restart the comp, it just hangs without even getting to the post screen. Other times i'll restart and everything will boot fine, but a minute or so after windows boots it'll freeze again. The freezing/restarting happen while playing games, right after closing the games, and/or when i'm surfing the web, or even when the comp is idle.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Optiplex GX280 running Windows XP that doesn`t do anything after start page is loaded except turn off or restart. I can ONLY (won`t allow me to do it in normal mode) do a system restore in safe mode & then it works perfect. When I turnoff or restart it goes back to the same problem - freezes up after start page has loaded. I have to do system restore in safe mode only all over again.

I can't access folders, My Computer, Internet Explorer, etc. When I click on any of these, it thinks for a little bit, and then does nothing. I am running Windows XP SP2. Does anybody have any idea what I can do? I have tried just a Diagnostic Startup. . .but it basically does the same thing.I haven't loaded any new programs or software lately. About the only major change was early in October, I started using an iPod and I have transferred quite a bit of music files to the hard drive.

When she tried to reboot, now all she gets is "Error loading operating system".We tried to reboot from the disk, and we get "searching from floppy, files not found""searching from cd-rom OK""boot from cd-rom, press any key", but when we press any key, nothing happens.Is there any other way to get this to boot from the disk so we can do a restore or file repair?
