first off everytime my comp starts up alot of programs do also. not in the lauch bar but next to the clock is where the all appear. i wanna stop that how would i do so? the programs that start up is yahoo im, avg, quicktime, and verizon support how do i stop them from starting when i start the comp?
View 14 Replieswhen my windows xp boots up...everything starts up except that the yahoo and msn messengers as well as the broadband connection dialin link doesnt works till like a minute or so after windows has got booted...it seems like the windows waits for something to load for about a minute and then after a minute the hard drive shows some activity and yahoo,msn and the broadband link comes up and i can only dial the link then...this 1 minute wait for the connection to be connected is really annoying me...from the task manager i c that 2 services imapi.exe,alg.exe and wmiserve.exe starts up after the freezing time of the windows and then net connection gets connected...if u want any more details i will let you know.

But when it is installed it doesnt work. My friend is having the same problem I had. This is now on a Dell computer with Macafee and xp of course.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using winXP and have been for a while without problems.In an instant, while online, doing a file transfer my PC manfested the following problems:
1. Booting up takes alot longer now and once im at the login screen it takes an even greater amount of time to load my profile. it sticks at the loading personal settings message for a while, then once it gets past there it takes a few minutes to load my desktop.
2. I can not open some programs like Media Player. The Error ' can not perform operation-memory too low' appears.In addition i can not access any system tools or programs eg. Help and Support
My data files seem to be fine along with all the other non-system related content on my computer.
3. I can not open my internet connection. It seems to be stuck in connected state even after restarting my computer.(I use a dial-up)
To try and solve ths i tried to get into my network places and modems in the control panel but when i tried i got error messages -something to do with 'network places and telephony services may not be activated, activate them and try again.'Another intersesting issue is that my taskbar has changed and looks like a windows 2000 taskbar now and functions slightly differntly than before. In fact my whole OS looks a bit differnt now.
I would like some programs to automatically load and run when I log on.Can anyone help me achieve this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen i start my windows XP proffessional a lot of programs are started like yahoo messenger etc and it takes lot of time for eac of these to load. So i tried "msconfig" to customize which programs to start when the system boots.But each time i start i get a message from "msconfig" program that " this is not the normal startup and suggests to revert back to normal start up (which starts all the progs).I want only specific programs to start when i my computer starts.
1)Is there a better way to change this apart from "msconfig" ?
2) How can i avoid that message that mscofig gives?
3) Are there any other problems i want only selective programs to start ?
I don't know what's happened to my computer but it run slow as well as when it starts up it takes time and the programs don't load up at startup. Also it's very laggy(slow) It's Windows Xp(Home Edition) 2.53Mhz, 512RAM.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having serious computer issues! My desktop has been freezing a lot as of late. As in mouse freezes screen freezes, no task manager, manual restart. Well just as I was about to back it all up tonight. I am using windows media player and firefox and all of the sudden the computer starts to restart itself. Once it reboots it goes to the vaio screen where it freezes. I am actually used to this because it happens whenever I try and restart with my external hd attached. so I hard restart again, disconnect the external, and then it passes the vaio screen goes to the pentuim 4 screen, goes to a black screen with a little cursor that skips down a few bars, i hear the drive whirr up when it should load up to the windows xp loading screen, but then it stops and the screen goes blank. If i try and go into safe mode by pressing f8, it says please select boot device and gives me a choice.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently my PC has begun to run very slow. The Harddrive light is on a lot . It takes forever to boot up. It used to get to the desktop in 2 minutes. Now I can fix a pot of coffee while waiting. Here is what I have tried:
1) Defrag
2) Virus scan
3) AdAware scan
5) Spybot Search and Destroy scan
6) Scan disk
I have not added any hardware or software that would lead to this. I did install "Autoruns" to try to get an idea of what was happening. I have since deleted it.I have 1 gb of RAM, and adequate space on my 'C' drive. Task manager shows only a couple applications , but 50 processes
Right now im in safe mode due to this problem. when i start my pc normally, it boots up fine until the windows user account screen. when i get to that screen i see alot of black lines, my moniter will ranomly shut off. what can i do to fix this?

The yellow emblem is in the task bar after I boot. Nothing happens when I click on it. When I try to restart the timer goes on and it seems like the computer is frozen. I have never had problems with updates before but this time the download was very slow yesterday and I never got the message to install. When I went to turn off computer 3 updates were ready to install so I let them install.

But the moment I reboot Windows reinstalls them again and after my next reboot my data transfer, and my comp in general is slow again.I have no clue as to why my comp runs fine without those controllers, but the moment they auto-install my comp becomes slow and jerky again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I am on the comp normally, on the internet, using Word, etc. it's all fine. The problem only starts when I try to play a dvd. Sometimes, it will play for a little while and then I hear a 'click' sound and the comp freezes. I would have to press the restart button for it to do anything.Other times, as soon as the DVD drive starts to load a dvd, a 'click' sound is heard, and it freezes.Sometimes, the same happens as above, and the BLUE SCREEN shows up- says something about memory dump..I don't know what to do! I've tried using a different programs to load the DVD, e.g. Power DVD, Windows Media Player, AVI... don't think it makes a difference now! (When I changed from Power DVD to WMP it worked for a week or so, then it started all over again! This problem started when I still had my old DVD drive, which was 8X and now I have a 16X. View 14 Replies View RelatedSometimes I can have the comp on for a couple of days, be playing WoW and HL2 games on it and all sorts of things and it'll suddenly freeze without warning. No hdd light, no error message, just complete freezure (not a real word, I know). Mouse won't move, keyboard is locked out. Sometimes when i restart the comp, it just hangs without even getting to the post screen. Other times i'll restart and everything will boot fine, but a minute or so after windows boots it'll freeze again. The freezing/restarting happen while playing games, right after closing the games, and/or when i'm surfing the web, or even when the comp is idle.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI only noticed it earlier today, but for some reason I noticed that my machine was running a little slow this morning. So I did the usuall Disk Cleanup, Defrag and Check Disk. But to no avail my CPU is still running @ 100% without fluxuating(sp).
I also perform a spybot scan as well as a virus scan.
I just reinstalled Windows XP on my computer and now I cannot create a new folder. I usually right click and select New>Folder but for some reason I can't do it. I also noticed that I cannot read any of the names of the icons in My Computer. All I can see is the icon itself but no label. I've never had this problem before even after re-installing a OS.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Optiplex GX280 running Windows XP that doesn`t do anything after start page is loaded except turn off or restart. I can ONLY (won`t allow me to do it in normal mode) do a system restore in safe mode & then it works perfect. When I turnoff or restart it goes back to the same problem - freezes up after start page has loaded. I have to do system restore in safe mode only all over again.

I have run virus scan, spywear scan, done a defrag, and every thing is fine. There is nothing in the startup menu on msconfig screen. but yet my comp takes like 3 mins to restart. getting on the internet with Road Runner takes like 5 mins.

I can't access folders, My Computer, Internet Explorer, etc. When I click on any of these, it thinks for a little bit, and then does nothing. I am running Windows XP SP2. Does anybody have any idea what I can do? I have tried just a Diagnostic Startup. . .but it basically does the same thing.I haven't loaded any new programs or software lately. About the only major change was early in October, I started using an iPod and I have transferred quite a bit of music files to the hard drive.
