Right now im in safe mode due to this problem. when i start my pc normally, it boots up fine until the windows user account screen. when i get to that screen i see alot of black lines, my moniter will ranomly shut off. what can i do to fix this?
I'm on my computer for 10 hours a day monday through friday. About twice a day my computer locks up and displays grey vertical lines on the screen and I can't do anything. It requires a hard power down and power up to get back up and going. Of course everything I haven't saved is lost. I've tried deleting and reloading the video driver and updating it, no help. Do I need to reload my OS? I hope the fix is not that drastic. Any and all information is appreciated. I can email a pic of what my screen looks like if someone is interested in helping.Computer Specs: Dell Vostro 1000, AMD 64 Athlon X2, 1 gig ram, Windows XP Pro 2002 service pack 2.
Since I installed Windows XP Pro 64 bit, I seemingly randomly encounter a problem with the screen display. The computer will be functioning fine and then the screen will go black (the monitor is still on) for approximately a single second and then come back on. It does not happen every time I use the computer, but when it does occur, the only solution I have found is restarting the machine (sometimes I have to do this multiple times). I am quite sure the problem lies with Windows or with the drive Windows is installed on as I have Fedora 8 installed on another drive in the system, and it does not encounter this problem. Is anyone aware of a fix for this problem or perhaps a special driver/configuration mode I should acquire? Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I did some changes unintentionally and now my PC won't display anything after windows logo. After that the system asked me to reboot so I clicked OK.From that on my PC can boot and display windows logo but after that everything turn black. My PC is a DELL desktop run on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1, how to set that back?I tried safe mode, Last Know Good, and the like but it just end up in black screen.
Between the time the Windows XP logo screen disappears and the Welcome screen appears, the display remains blacked out for about 15 seconds. Is there a way to shorten or eliminate this blackout period? The only programs that are loading during startup in the MSCONFIG "Startup" tab are the antivirus and firewall programs.
My display is showing vertical lines across the screen and strange artifacts when i move windows or try to play games. My video card is an ati 9800 pro. These artifacts appear on the boot screen , before windows even loads up.
I recently bought a new computer with a 512 MB graphic card. My old computer had a 128 MB card but at the beginning, I only had 8 MB. I was using a screen saver with fish in an aquarium. With only my 8 MB card, the animation was really impressive. I tried my screen saver yesterday with my new 512 MB card and the picture was terrible. There were plenty of horizontal lines on the screen. What could explain this? Could it be that the program wasn't intented for this type of card? In those days, big cards like mine didn't exist. There might be a new update to this screen saver.
All of a sudden tonite I have lines cascading down the screen. Very faint hint of white lines. almost like the old days with tvs and the horizontal hold being out of wack except this is very faint and the screen itself is not distorted. Just horizontal white lines that cascade down. Did the obligiatory check of the cables from the printer to the computer and nothing going on there. tried rebooting and no luck .I could make some guesses but if this is obvious to somebody i would appreciate any ideas.now for some strange reason after posting this i turned of the monitor and turned it back on and the lines are gone?
I am running Windows 2000 professional. After receiving a new monitor and printer for x-mas, I installed the print drivers and hooked up the printer and monitor. After a shut down of the computer, it booted up with these, I guess, shadows or gray lines that continue across the screen wherever there is print or an image. It makes everything very difficult to see.The colors are off as well.I deleted and reinstalled the VGA drivers and that didn't work.
there are thousands of blue lines on my computer screen running up and down, they move when I type, etc. It looks kind of like a bunch of barcodes all across my screen if I could compare it to anything. My computer seems to run fine even with them on the screen. I thought my video card may be shot but when I tried starting my computer in safe mode this lead me to believe that this may be a virus or trojan.
I have a serious problem with some huge vertical lines on my right side of the LCD screen of my Inspiron 9300. ( see picture below)The green(left side) bordered area is the area I can actually see on my screen. The red(right side) marked area is the area covered by the vertical lines. Because I'm not replacing this LCD AGAIN, and I don't have the money right now to buy a new computer, I was wondering if there is a program or anything that could let me resize and relocate the "screen", as the buttons on the normal desktop computer monitors, which let you move/stretch/reduce/center/etc the screen display,so that i can relocate the complete screen on the left viewable area of my laptop's LCD.
A few days ago strange lines started appearing on my computer screen. It has progressed and I could barely see anything. Then monitor kept going into "power saver" mode and back when I booted Windows in normal mode. I booted Windows in "safe mode". Monitor wasn't shutting off anymore but the screen was barely readable.I managed to save my data on external drive. I put in my Windows installation disk and restarted computer wanting to format the hard disk and reinstall Windows. When I would restart I would see black screen and hear DVD drive spinning but nothing was happening. Now when I restart I see this .This screen just stands there. I cannot access the BIOS, load Windows or boot from CD/DVD. All 3 fans in my comp work fine when computer is on. I tried removing this battery and putting it back later but it didn't help. My computer has 2 gigs RAM, runs Win XP Professional SP2 and this is my motherboard .At this point I have no idea what to do or even what caused this. I was hoping to format and reinstall Windows but I'm unable to boot.
I have an old - 6 yrs old (no-name) PC running Windows Xp (upgraded from 98). Recently I had to erase and reload everything on my computer - including XP - so now I only have some basic programs from established vendors (MSFT office, Norton, Adobe and SBC yahoo DSL). Since I did all of this, now while I am on the internet, my computer will all of a sudden freeze and the screen will become one color (not the typical blue screen but usually the background color of the page I was just viewing) with some vertical lines. At this point nothing works, so I have to reboot the computer.
Dell Inspiron 1501. Running windows xp SP2 .512 Megs of R.A.M. I am trying to repair this computer for a friend. At first it would not boot at all (I think I fixed that it will boot now) But after it runs for a few minutes it goes to a blue screen with vertical lines. There is no error message just the lines. Sometimes they are one color, sometimes different colors. Does anyone know how I can diagnose what is going on. This is the first time I encountered this
The LCD screen during boot up has multi-colored static verticle lines 1/3rd of LCD My OS was re-installed on this past Monday. There were not any noted problems. Today I installed Norton SystemWorks Premier 2005 without ant noted problem. I then installed Norton Internet Security 2005 and during the installation it detected that a previous version of Norton AntiVirus was installed and requested that it be removed. I did that and followed the correct steps. And rebooted. I then installed Norton Internet Security with AntiVirus without any noted problem. I was requested to download Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and I did and then I was requested to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 HotFix (KB886903
I have a Dell laptop and for some reason now when I log on my screen is fine for a couple of seconds then it shrinks and is framed in black. I can go to properties and settings and change it to 1280x1024 then change it back to my normal setting of 1024x768 and everything is fine until I turn the computer off and when I turn it back on I have to go thru the settings change again to make it right. I have no idea what caused this and its a little irritating to have to do this everytime I turn it on.

I am having serious computer issues! My desktop has been freezing a lot as of late. As in mouse freezes screen freezes, no task manager, manual restart. Well just as I was about to back it all up tonight. I am using windows media player and firefox and all of the sudden the computer starts to restart itself. Once it reboots it goes to the vaio screen where it freezes. I am actually used to this because it happens whenever I try and restart with my external hd attached. so I hard restart again, disconnect the external, and then it passes the vaio screen goes to the pentuim 4 screen, goes to a black screen with a little cursor that skips down a few bars, i hear the drive whirr up when it should load up to the windows xp loading screen, but then it stops and the screen goes blank. If i try and go into safe mode by pressing f8, it says please select boot device and gives me a choice.
Recently my PC has begun to run very slow. The Harddrive light is on a lot . It takes forever to boot up. It used to get to the desktop in 2 minutes. Now I can fix a pot of coffee while waiting. Here is what I have tried:
1) Defrag
2) Virus scan
3) AdAware scan
5) Spybot Search and Destroy scan
6) Scan disk
I have not added any hardware or software that would lead to this. I did install "Autoruns" to try to get an idea of what was happening. I have since deleted it.I have 1 gb of RAM, and adequate space on my 'C' drive. Task manager shows only a couple applications , but 50 processes

its my previously-formatted HP Pavilion dv5201tx! The problem is as the title above. I can go into safe mode. I've used system restore twice. And in Documents and Settings folder I noticed it has:
Administrator Administrator.computer description name Administrator.computer description name.000 username1 username2
Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help!
My laptop has started to freeze at times, then the screen would blackout then appear with a black screen with a blue box inthe middle giving BOOT DEVICE OPTIONS Hard Disk Drive, CD-ROM/DVD, Floppy Disk Drive, LAN Boot it froze blacked out and now keeps going to this option page ,where as before if you turn off then on it rectified itself.
when I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : windowssystem32configsystem."
You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.
i get this error when i tried to open up my computer, first the windows xp loading screen works fine, then after that the screen just goes black and stays like that forever. this happened when i tried to uninstall a USB Bluetooth driver and it was requested to restart my pc so i did, and after that restart i cant get in no more, the screen just goes black after the windows xp load screen. im wondering how can i fix this problem? please help me guys... thank you.. and o yeah one more thing.. when i tried it on safe mode it went to the welcome screen but after that when i try to move my cursor i didnt move at all then i restart my pc again and the whole thing happens once more
friend whose computer has crashed the screen had frozen. He could do nothing except reboot it using the power button but on rebooting, there was a 'no signal' message on a black screen. We have checked the monitor connections (the monitor works when connected to his second computer) and even replaced the video card but of course this made no difference (no signal) We've taken out the HD and installed it on his second system. Does this mean that the most likely cause now is the motherboard/bios or is there something wrong in our approach/deductions
My computer screen freezes up after a while, then turns into a blank light blue screen and then into a black screen. I have used regcure, PCMedkit, and PC Doc Pro I have also tried some of the online help for a fee but nothing seem to work. Lately when trying to reboot I got a blank red screen. I'm using xp pro and a Nvida GeForce 9400GT GRAPHICS CARD.
I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal. It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
The start of my problem is that I was receiving an error 'cannot initialize lsass.exe service'.After repairing XP SP2, the following is displayed every time that I boot:SAFE Mode - black screen with 'safe mode' in bottom corners of screen Windows Mode - blue screen. The mouse is responding. There are no icons. There is no text (except for 'safe mode' as above)CTRL/ALT/DEL does not display task manager.CTRL/ESCAPE does not display anything.Clicking on various parts of thescreen has no effect.I have replaced Explorer.exe from c:i386
my computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart.
Next time, generally it would work perfect. So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.
I am using winXP and have been for a while without problems. In an instant, while online, doing a file transfer my PC manfested the following problems:
1. Booting up takes alot longer now and once im at the login screen it takes an even greater amount of time to load my profile. it sticks at the loading personal settings message for a while, then once it gets past there it takes a few minutes to load my desktop.
2. I can not open some programs like Media Player. The Error ' can not perform operation-memory too low' appears. In addition i can not access any system tools or programs eg. Help and Support My data files seem to be fine along with all the other non-system related content on my computer.
3. I can not open my internet connection. It seems to be stuck in connected state even after restarting my computer.(I use a dial-up)
To try and solve ths i tried to get into my network places and modems in the control panel but when i tried i got error messages -something to do with 'network places and telephony services may not be activated, activate them and try again.'Another intersesting issue is that my taskbar has changed and looks like a windows 2000 taskbar now and functions slightly differntly than before. In fact my whole OS looks a bit differnt now.
