I'm on my computer for 10 hours a day monday through friday. About twice a day my computer locks up and displays grey vertical lines on the screen and I can't do anything. It requires a hard power down and power up to get back up and going. Of course everything I haven't saved is lost. I've tried deleting and reloading the video driver and updating it, no help. Do I need to reload my OS? I hope the fix is not that drastic. Any and all information is appreciated. I can email a pic of what my screen looks like if someone is interested in helping.Computer Specs: Dell Vostro 1000, AMD 64 Athlon X2, 1 gig ram, Windows XP Pro 2002 service pack 2.
I have a serious problem with some huge vertical lines on my right side of the LCD screen of my Inspiron 9300. ( see picture below)The green(left side) bordered area is the area I can actually see on my screen. The red(right side) marked area is the area covered by the vertical lines. Because I'm not replacing this LCD AGAIN, and I don't have the money right now to buy a new computer, I was wondering if there is a program or anything that could let me resize and relocate the "screen", as the buttons on the normal desktop computer monitors, which let you move/stretch/reduce/center/etc the screen display,so that i can relocate the complete screen on the left viewable area of my laptop's LCD.
I have an old - 6 yrs old (no-name) PC running Windows Xp (upgraded from 98). Recently I had to erase and reload everything on my computer - including XP - so now I only have some basic programs from established vendors (MSFT office, Norton, Adobe and SBC yahoo DSL). Since I did all of this, now while I am on the internet, my computer will all of a sudden freeze and the screen will become one color (not the typical blue screen but usually the background color of the page I was just viewing) with some vertical lines. At this point nothing works, so I have to reboot the computer.
Dell Inspiron 1501. Running windows xp SP2 .512 Megs of R.A.M. I am trying to repair this computer for a friend. At first it would not boot at all (I think I fixed that it will boot now) But after it runs for a few minutes it goes to a blue screen with vertical lines. There is no error message just the lines. Sometimes they are one color, sometimes different colors. Does anyone know how I can diagnose what is going on. This is the first time I encountered this
My display is showing vertical lines across the screen and strange artifacts when i move windows or try to play games. My video card is an ati 9800 pro. These artifacts appear on the boot screen , before windows even loads up.
So I was playing Counterstrike and suddenly the colors started changing. The red changed into a dark color that was hard to see and the blue changed to a very light color. I thought it was just the game so I alt tabbed. Turns out everything had a slight color change.I thought there might be an issue with my video card's driver. I have a NVIDIA Geforce 7600 GT. So I went to the nvidia website and downloaded the most recent driver, installed it, and restarted my computer
Im having major issues when trying to start up my Windows Xp PC.Its only just started and my computer has been running fine before today. Its extremely hard to explain what has been happening so i took a series of photos of the events that take place during the start up process: First Screen: Yellow vertical lines appear, colour distorted Second screen: Weird series of x0i 's appearing all over the screen Thrid Screen: The Start up option screen printed over the last screen with numerous letters missing After that the Normall Windows xp start up screen, colour distorted and eventually it feezes at this screen and the computer restarts itself
All of a sudden tonite I have lines cascading down the screen. Very faint hint of white lines. almost like the old days with tvs and the horizontal hold being out of wack except this is very faint and the screen itself is not distorted. Just horizontal white lines that cascade down. Did the obligiatory check of the cables from the printer to the computer and nothing going on there. tried rebooting and no luck .I could make some guesses but if this is obvious to somebody i would appreciate any ideas.now for some strange reason after posting this i turned of the monitor and turned it back on and the lines are gone?
I am running Windows 2000 professional. After receiving a new monitor and printer for x-mas, I installed the print drivers and hooked up the printer and monitor. After a shut down of the computer, it booted up with these, I guess, shadows or gray lines that continue across the screen wherever there is print or an image. It makes everything very difficult to see.The colors are off as well.I deleted and reinstalled the VGA drivers and that didn't work.
there are thousands of blue lines on my computer screen running up and down, they move when I type, etc. It looks kind of like a bunch of barcodes all across my screen if I could compare it to anything. My computer seems to run fine even with them on the screen. I thought my video card may be shot but when I tried starting my computer in safe mode this lead me to believe that this may be a virus or trojan.
Right now im in safe mode due to this problem. when i start my pc normally, it boots up fine until the windows user account screen. when i get to that screen i see alot of black lines, my moniter will ranomly shut off. what can i do to fix this?
A few days ago strange lines started appearing on my computer screen. It has progressed and I could barely see anything. Then monitor kept going into "power saver" mode and back when I booted Windows in normal mode. I booted Windows in "safe mode". Monitor wasn't shutting off anymore but the screen was barely readable.I managed to save my data on external drive. I put in my Windows installation disk and restarted computer wanting to format the hard disk and reinstall Windows. When I would restart I would see black screen and hear DVD drive spinning but nothing was happening. Now when I restart I see this .This screen just stands there. I cannot access the BIOS, load Windows or boot from CD/DVD. All 3 fans in my comp work fine when computer is on. I tried removing this battery and putting it back later but it didn't help. My computer has 2 gigs RAM, runs Win XP Professional SP2 and this is my motherboard .At this point I have no idea what to do or even what caused this. I was hoping to format and reinstall Windows but I'm unable to boot.
I recently bought a new computer with a 512 MB graphic card. My old computer had a 128 MB card but at the beginning, I only had 8 MB. I was using a screen saver with fish in an aquarium. With only my 8 MB card, the animation was really impressive. I tried my screen saver yesterday with my new 512 MB card and the picture was terrible. There were plenty of horizontal lines on the screen. What could explain this? Could it be that the program wasn't intented for this type of card? In those days, big cards like mine didn't exist. There might be a new update to this screen saver.
The LCD screen during boot up has multi-colored static verticle lines 1/3rd of LCD My OS was re-installed on this past Monday. There were not any noted problems. Today I installed Norton SystemWorks Premier 2005 without ant noted problem. I then installed Norton Internet Security 2005 and during the installation it detected that a previous version of Norton AntiVirus was installed and requested that it be removed. I did that and followed the correct steps. And rebooted. I then installed Norton Internet Security with AntiVirus without any noted problem. I was requested to download Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and I did and then I was requested to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 HotFix (KB886903
Sometimes my systray fills up and I have to click the up and down arrow to move from one line to another. One time I had 2 lines of systray displayed, but I don't know how I got it. Does anyone know how to get more than 1 line of systray displayed?
Not sure this is the correct place to post, as I don't know what the problem IS but it is brand new tonight. I noticed this after installing two Big FIsh demo games, playing a short time and uninstalling them. I think I have also cleaned out all files related to those two games from the registry. Then I rebooted. Now, everything on my desktop has white motion lines on the right side. It looks similar to dragging a box across the screen that leaves a trail. I have checked my monotor settings, nothing there helps. Not sure what else I should do next, but this DOES seem related to the games. I did get a screen shot if someone needs to see that.
This problem just started to happen. I saw where Robbie suggested going into the registry and removing two lines that have helped several people. I need to know how to get to the registry to eliminate these two lines if possible
When I try and drag an image off of my CF or any other card, I get ghost lines that trail the images into My Pictures. They dissappear if I minimize the screen and then re-maximize it. Just downloaded updated Nvida Video drivers. I have Windows XP Prof. with Service Pack 1
About a week ago problems started happening with my screen saver. It would be normal when it first came on, and then it would start getting distorted and would have lines going through it. Then when I clicked back to the desktop all the icons on the taskbar and desktop would also be distorted and have vertical white lines going through them. Today the problem is worse since now icons in the Start menu also have the lines going through them. It now also has lines through my programs and some web pages. I haven't been able to get rid of the problem
After my computer starts there is this buzzing sound that continues. It didn't happen when I got the computer. This buzzing sound keeps continuing. When I play games and some minutes into the game computer starts to slow down and it starts to freeze. Then I try to alt tab or all the shortcuts control alt delete. Doesn't work. I also see tiny little grey lines around my mouse, I can move my mouse but everything else has frozen. I then have to restart computer. When I restarted my computer there was like little blue lines going down my screen not many only 3 or 4 or something.
The blue lines happen when it goes to the loading screen where it says windows is loading and has a blue bar that goes across. It also has a few blue dots near the bar that goes across. When that loading is finished nothing appears on my screen it is just black. Just now I turned off my computer for a while hoping that it was just a heating problem. I turned it back on and it works I just have the buzzing sound.
Without using a third party program, does the XP system itself offer a quick way to see where my start up originate from, since msconfig startups only gives most of the line but not all, plus I cannot manually copy those lines to the run box to see where they go. Not having as in my case and AV, if I disable all the startups, reboot and the some startups are still there, can I interpreted those startups as malware then?
Got a second hand Dell CPx P3, 650mhz, Win2000, 256 ram,20g hd...the laptop runs great and i really like it *EXCEPT - SIGH* ...i edit ALOT of photos using photoshop (which i have not loaded yet).As it turns out that my problem is the screen, even at the startup has yellowing lines running horizontally to the right of all visible icons, words, pictures etc. I put a photo cd into the drive and the pictures are very distorted, it looks as if they have been totally over sharpened.
i recently bought an acer laptop with windows media center installed by the company along with many other programs id like to get rid of. i have a copy of windows xp professional (32bit?). i first go into bios and change it to boot from cd first. i save and exit, my laptop reboots, after the bios screen, the screen goes black with one of those mini white lines you see in cmd.exe when your typing, on the top left corner for around 10 seconds. it then proceeds to the windows xp loading screen. it totally skips the boot from cd (windows cd). the model of my laptop is AMD turion 64x2 mobile technology TL-52. im not sure if 64x2 means that my laptop is 64bit, and my windows xp professional cd is only 32bit?
I have strange lines appearing over and around my desktop icons.Doesn't have those in safe mode.Moving the cursor to a different section of the page I am on right now will change what is next to the cursor. What is around the cursor changes when the cursor itself changes from a pointer to a finger to whatever. Sometimes dots, sometimes a bold "i".Changing the hardware acceleration down one notch eliminates the problem with the cursor, but my cpu goes into overtime. Windows startup screen just has lines of small squares all over. The problems were worse until I d/l the latest drivers from ATI.And video update is slow, relatively speaking. Going from one busy window to another gives white windows. Can still watch deleted multiple emails disappear one by one.
I have a refurbished IBM T40 laptop. I don't remember dropping it, but each time I move slightly if I am not working on a hard surface, the system freezes with a bunch of multi colored lines. Sometimes vertical or horizontal or mixed.
A trojan virus changed my windows xp home addition configuration. I installed the free AVG virus detection software and eliminated the virus. I had to eliminate all restore points which were also infected. Now I need to change or delete a line in my config files. I keep getting a message that windows internet explorer can't find a file which was the virus file(///c:windows/privacy_danger/index.htm'. make sure the path or internet address is correct). I also get a different display background screen which I can't change. All else seems to be working properly.
When I did a system recovery on my new Compaq Laptop, it lost the lines that allow me to boot into safe mode, or ANY mode. It just goes right into Wondows XP. I know there were lines that should be in the boot.ini to do this.
So i used to have the default Windows XP Visual styles on my laptop here. But i heard it makes the computer a tiny bit faster without them, so i selected "adjust for best performance" ... now the only problem is that there is a tiny, tiny, little line underneath the taskbar ... it seems to be part of the taskbar, and it is the same color and all, but it makes it so that all my stuff on the taskbar isn't all the way to the bottom of the screen.
Sometimes XP gets to the windows splash screen, goes grey and hangs up.Sometimes it doesnt even get that far. When I reset, I can run safe mode though things move very slowly on boot and log off.
computer crashed? about 2 months ago. cleaned it, added some ram total now 512. computer runs,if i open documents pitures, etc, its ok. however if i try to run symantec or read my emails it will give me a few minutes and then goes to this blue striped screen and i have to shut down computer and restart.oh, i also changed the battery on the mb someone said they can get weak, perhaps causing problem beyond that he suggested possible mb chip.
