Grey Vertical Lines On Screen Lines

Nov 5, 2008

I'm on my computer for 10 hours a day monday through friday. About twice a day my computer locks up and displays grey vertical lines on the screen and I can't do anything. It requires a hard power down and power up to get back up and going. Of course everything I haven't saved is lost. I've tried deleting and reloading the video driver and updating it, no help. Do I need to reload my OS? I hope the fix is not that drastic. Any and all information is appreciated. I can email a pic of what my screen looks like if someone is interested in helping.Computer Specs: Dell Vostro 1000, AMD 64 Athlon X2, 1 gig ram, Windows XP Pro 2002 service pack 2.

Eliminate A Set-up & System Password

Jun 23, 2005

My club has a computer with the X-P operating system. As a security precaution I assigned a system and set-up password when we installed the computer. Some users are now complaining that they are having trouble logging into the system and want to eliminate it. The set-up program shows both passwords as being "enabled". When I hit the space bar it asks for the password and then asks to confirm it but nothing more. How can I completely eliminate both passwords?

Eliminate Login Box In Win 2000

Nov 17, 2006

I have an older Compaq laptop w/ Win 2000 Pro. I no longer need any of the Admin 'stuff'. I would like to get rid of all of it and have it operate like a home edition, but I especially want to get rid of the login box. Is there any way to disable/delete it completely. I have WinMe on another comp, and want Win 2000 to operate like it does - no login box to fool with. I'm the only one who ever uses it, so there's no problem with security.I have searched on this site and Googled it. I find how to set it to log on automatically, but would still like to disable it if possible.

Start OS Eliminate Kaspersky Or Do System Restore?

May 13, 2006

I have a Toshiba sat pro 6000 running XP pro which was pre installed, so no discs.Last night I downloaded an upgrade of kapersky and when it asked me to reboot laptop the following happened.A black screen appeared asking if I wanted to start in safe mode and a list of other options, I chose safe mode and the screen filled up with a long list about multi disks partition , windows driver etc.So I closed down and then chose start windows normally from the black page and it then progressed on to scanning the disc which is does. It reports there are no problems and then opens up the black page again, and again and again.I have pressed F8 and I chose disable auto start up and a blue screen came up telling me of a possible problem and to use recovery cd which I don't have. Can anyone advise on how I can start windows so that I can eliminate kapersky or do a system restore.

Did the obligiatory check of the cables from the printer to the computer and nothing going on there. tried rebooting and no luck .I could make some guesses but if this is obvious to somebody i would appreciate any ideas.now for some strange reason after posting this i turned of the monitor and turned it back on and the lines are gone?

Motion Lines On Desktop

Oct 14, 2008

Not sure this is the correct place to post, as I don't know what the problem IS but it is brand new tonight. I noticed this after installing two Big FIsh demo games, playing a short time and uninstalling them. I think I have also cleaned out all files related to those two games from the registry. Then I rebooted. Now, everything on my desktop has white motion lines on the right side. It looks similar to dragging a box across the screen that leaves a trail. I have checked my monotor settings, nothing there helps. Not sure what else I should do next, but this DOES seem related to the games. I did get a screen shot if someone needs to see that.

Pc Freezes And Strange Lines During Boot?

Feb 20, 2006

After my computer starts there is this buzzing sound that continues. It didn't happen when I got the computer. This buzzing sound keeps continuing. When I play games and some minutes into the game computer starts to slow down and it starts to freeze. Then I try to alt tab or all the shortcuts control alt delete. Doesn't work. I also see tiny little grey lines around my mouse, I can move my mouse but everything else has frozen. I then have to restart computer. When I restarted my computer there was like little blue lines going down my screen not many only 3 or 4 or something.

The blue lines happen when it goes to the loading screen where it says windows is loading and has a blue bar that goes across. It also has a few blue dots near the bar that goes across. When that loading is finished nothing appears on my screen it is just black. Just now I turned off my computer for a while hoping that it was just a heating problem. I turned it back on and it works I just have the buzzing sound.

Not having as in my case and AV, if I disable all the startups, reboot and the some startups are still there, can I interpreted those startups as malware then?
