pc is sounding very strange sometimes, just now all that is running is virus scan and AOL, I have had a look at the task manager and on the CP usage hist. the graph is very high.Is this normal as I do not remember this groaning before.

Does 66 running processes seem like a lot? I cannot seem to find a thread regarding this. (I'm sure there is, stopped looking after 45 minutes) It doesn't seem to slow my computer at all. I AM running quite a bit on here as far as spyware, virus scans, webshots, etc. It's also a media center 2004 computer with all the trim so there are quite a few windows processes on there. Even with AOL running, my computer is only using 430MB of RAM and I have 1GB.

I have run virus scan, spywear scan, done a defrag, and every thing is fine. There is nothing in the startup menu on msconfig screen. but yet my comp takes like 3 mins to restart. getting on the internet with Road Runner takes like 5 mins.

computer makes a clicking noise for a second then my screen freezes up i cant move the mouse pointer basicaly screen freezes. i know i have some infected files but i dont know which ones are infected as the virus scan dosnt finish and show end results
Will AVG work with Mc Afee? When I had it with Win 98 they fought & AVG did not win. What is better AVG, Mc Afee or another?

So i have the windows xp cd but my drive hasnt been readin anything lately ! it wont boot it at all. i dont know what to do. my drive isnt dead i dont think it still makes noise and opens and closes on command and it lights up still. i need to get my drive to work so i can fix my hard drive.
I was running a virus scan using AVG free it nearly completed then crashed to a reboot, this has happened before, but upon restart it went through the usual "System has recovered from a serious problem would you like to send an error report" which I did, it transferred the report to Microsoft and instead of the windows oca (Online crash analysis) site I got a window on the screen showing the web address for oca saying that "The application was not found"

I have run a virus scan with my Norton's antivirus which fixed 4 infected files. I then ran Ewido anti-malware whcih fixed another 4 infected files but I' am still getting the message my computer is infected. I ran killjackthis and saved the report but cannot tell from the entires what might be causing the problem. I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

View 14 Replies View RelatedA friend was being bombarded with pop-ups, so I ran two programs which I use on my own computer and have installed on many others; they are "Spybot" and "AdAware." He is running Windows XP Pro. This friend of mine does not go to porn or gaming sites (and I found no evidence that he did), or gambling sites, with the exception of one casino site that has never caused any problems for him
The first time I ran Spybot, it detected 249 problems but couldn't remove some because they were running at the time of the scan, and gave me a choice of running Spybot again the next time the computer was started. I chose yes and it found 197 problems this time and couldn't fix 30 of them. I chose yes again to run Spybot on the next boot, and this time it said that it could not fix 44 problems. I ran RegCleaner and it took out some files but I didn't count them. I then ran Norton WinDoctor which found and fixed eight problems. I followed this with a scan with AdAware, which found 1,083 problems!! It could not fix 235 of them and on the reboot it could not fix 177 of them. The next scan showed 168 problems and could not fix 60 of them on reboot. When I rebooted, a Welcome screen requiring a password for the Username "Owner" came up so I called the guy and asked him if he had ever used a password with this system, and he said no. Now I cannot get into his system at all!
I have a proble+m with +my keyboard. When I hit certain keys +my co+mputer does strange things. Here's a list of things I've found wrong:
"u" brings up windows standby +mode.
"end" places a period where the cursor is.
"m" types +m
"7" opens my IE home page
right bracket - shuts down windows
I haven't knowingly changed and key settings. Virus scan co+mes up negative.
I download the full version of sp2 here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en and I will burn this one file on a cd so:Can I just double click on this one file and it will install without being on the internet?Will this one file install everything I need to update my xp pro to sp2?I did all the ad-ware and virus scan and defrag, so I hope this one file works

View 6 Replies View Relatedi am fixing a computer for a client of mine that had a few viruses on it. i booted into safe mode and ran a few scans - norton, trend micro, anti malware etc, and all of them caught something and cleaned the machine. I kept running scans until everything was gone. i also fixed the registry and ran ccleaner etc. well, when i try to boot into normal mode the computer will stay at the logon screen. the mouse will move around but when i click to logon, nothing happens...well, thats not exactly true, after a few minutes the admin icon will flash like i clicked on it then nothing.

Whenever I run McAfee virus scan version 10 my computer completely shuts down at some point during the scan. However if I reboot and run scan a second time it runs fine. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to boot into safe mode in Windows XP (office) to deal with trojan horses (Vundo.gen.w/spy-agent.bw.gen.e) infections. I am able to get to the safe mode option screen via "f8", but it will only load some drivers and then it returns to the safe mode option screen (endless loop).
Further I cannot access the system config utility via "run". I open up the run dialog box and type "msconfig" nothing happens.
An ideas? What would happen if I run a full virus scan (with system restore off) without being in safe mode?
I only noticed it earlier today, but for some reason I noticed that my machine was running a little slow this morning. So I did the usuall Disk Cleanup, Defrag and Check Disk. But to no avail my CPU is still running @ 100% without fluxuating(sp).
I also perform a spybot scan as well as a virus scan.
i was on the computer for a few minutes then suddenly my sound is gone and the cimputer is acting very very slow. I have ran Adaware, Spybot S and D, Norton Anti Virus scan and house call but none of em found anything, except Sybot S and D found a mybar intry and deleted it.
View 14 Replies View Relatedwell im trying to fix a gateway pc with almost nothing on it. It is a celeron 2.4ghz and it runs like a 133mhz. It would take an hour to do a hijack scan if I wasnt in safe mode. Here is the scan. By the way, I did the scan in safe mode with networking. I also tried to do a trend micro virus scan but it wouldnt let me on mozilla or IE.

I first thought it might be security when I am online, or auto updates, but it happens when I am just word processing or logged in. Will not stop until turn off computer. And sometimes will begin again immediately after restart.
