i was on the computer for a few minutes then suddenly my sound is gone and the cimputer is acting very very slow. I have ran Adaware, Spybot S and D, Norton Anti Virus scan and house call but none of em found anything, except Sybot S and D found a mybar intry and deleted it.

My PC recently got a fairly nasty virus (W32-Sinowal-based Maximus! or something along those lines) so we had to get it wiped. A few days later, my computer was all messed up again. I can only boot up in Safe Mode, my sound doesn't work, and it is running slower than normal. I need to find out if I have another virus (although the guy who fixed it downloaded Norton Anti-Virus and it seemed fine for a few days) or if maybe my computer is just dying. It's about three years old and apparently it was outdated before we even bought it. Is there any way the virus could have affected the computer's hard drive or whatever (yeah, I don't quite know what I'm talking about) or have I maybe gotten another virus?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe get the server cannot be found message. If we now reboot, everything is up and running again (until the next time). This happens almost every day. Worked with the Verizon On Line techs and they found that my modem and associated equipment is in fine working order, and speculated that the problem is probably in my computer. I tried several possible fixes from some local experts (cleaning out the Explorer cache, running Spy-Bot, Ad-Aware, Norton anti-virus, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, etc.) to no avail.

I have always trusted this Anti-Virus program but it turned off the windows XP firewall and they tell me that I don't need it with their 2005 version because worms, hackers, viruses etc. are stopped through their program. hey, my computer have been acting up lately and its EXTREMELY slow right now, ive tried everything that i could think of, running virus scans and system cleaning scans..ive deleted/removed programs that i dont need but i still have this problem...also pop-up's come up all the time even when the computer is just sitting there at least 20 pops up and i do have panicware pop_up stopper but i quess it doesnt seem to work..i also have a problem with my computer just shutting down on me and then rebooting going to the screen where you sign in at.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI tried to start it up and it takes forever to load. It takes a couple of minutes to open any of the icons on the desktop too (Mozilla, Word). I tried to clean up as best I could. I ran some spyware programs and antivirus and nothing too much showed up -- no viruses. It takes so long to run these programs that I go off and do other stuff and come back hours later and the scans are still running! Is there anything that you can recommend to get the laptop running as it should?

I have run virus scan, spywear scan, done a defrag, and every thing is fine. There is nothing in the startup menu on msconfig screen. but yet my comp takes like 3 mins to restart. getting on the internet with Road Runner takes like 5 mins.

I was wondering what others of you used for anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewalls etc.I have heard that sometimes it's not the best idea to use a complete package, like ZA internet security suite, for the whole lot You hear a lot of conflicting info about them all, I've heard that AVG is good, Norton isn't, someone said windows defender was good.

When either program reads C:/windows/I386 it intermittently powers down. I think there's a corrupt file in the main body of I386, but can't isolate it. I'm not sure which type of file should be in this area.

it isn't acting right, but I have been trying to install norton antivirus. She bought the package and has a 2 year subscription, and afterwards we ran live update. It then asks for an activation key, which we have from the email sent to her. When we click OK to tell it that we want to put it in, it does nothing. No matter how long you wait or how many times you click OK, the box just sits there. For this reason, we cant update her virus definitions or get norton to protect her computer. norton is not the only button that will not respond. Somehow the viewpoint toolbar was installed on her computer. When we try to uninstall the viewpoint toolbar or if I go to add/remove programs and try to uninstall it from there, it brings up a box that asks are you sure you want to uninstall viewpoint It does the same as the norton box; it will not respond, even if I click yes and wait

Norton AntiVirus 2003 initially caught the virus and it supposedly deleted it, so I was not concerned with the message details. However, almost immediately after receiving the message I realized the virus was not completely removed. A DOS window popped up two or three times and then Norton shutdown. I tried opening Norton again but it would not open. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it would not reinstall. I tried the Windows Update site and the page shows no conent. Any ideas on how to identify the virus so I can take steps to remove it?

my computer has been acting up a lot lately, and has gotten really bad in the last few days...everythiing is just working slow, and it has been shutting off spontaneously. I posted the hijackthis log below. Derek, one of your moderators had been helping me out a few months ago with a similar problem, (thanks derek!) and i just posted this log on the end of our 3 page thread...but im not sure if he is still there, or checking old threads, so i decided to also post in a new thread.
